Nice work by Heilman.

Perez with a game score of 90, can't get the win. Moyer with a game score of 84. That's a pretty strong showing by both pitchers.
   102. PreservedFish Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:11 PM (#2871486)
98- He caught it on the lip of the track to straightaway center, but you could tell by Beltran's body language that he would catch it easily
   103. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:11 PM (#2871487)
I am just enjoying this game. I am glad they won last night because I'd be nearly as bad as C&M;is today.
   104. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:12 PM (#2871490)
Ollie's last 5 starts:

vs. NYY: 7 IP, 1 R, 8 Ks, 0 BB
@ PHI: 7 IP, 0 R, 6 Ks, 2 BBs
vs. COL: 6 IP, 1 R, 7 Ks, 6 BBs
@ CIN: 6 IP, 3 R, 6 Ks, 3 BBs
today: 7.2 IP, 1 R, 12 Ks, 1 BB

He is 1-1 during that span. If he keeps pitching like this, he is going to command a very large contract in the offseason, and it'll be hard for the Mets to not be the team to give it to him.
   105. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:13 PM (#2871492)
I can't believe Cancel is on this team.
   106. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:13 PM (#2871493)
^Hey!

Cancel!
   107. Dan Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:13 PM (#2871494)
Why is a minor league backup catcher the Mets' first bat off of the bench?
   108. Mark S. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:13 PM (#2871495)
Jon Niese is pitching in Binghamton now, so I doubt he will be called up for Saturday. So far 5 innings, 5 hits, 1BB and 7K.
   109. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:13 PM (#2871496)
That's why, Russlan. He's clutch!
   110. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:14 PM (#2871498)
Cancel being on this team is almost comical to me. I can't believe he is used as PH ahead of Castro. (Obviously not today, but yesterday, for example.)
   111. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:14 PM (#2871500)
Can you bunt with Cancel at first?
   112. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:14 PM (#2871502)
Pinch run for Cancel. Argenis Reyes is on the bench.
   113. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:15 PM (#2871504)
Yeah, what are you saving Reyes for?
   114. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:15 PM (#2871505)
Cancel is actually not that slow.
   115. Mark S. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:15 PM (#2871506)
Why is a minor league backup catcher the Mets' first bat off of the bench?

He bats righty. Anderson and Schneider are lefties. A Reyes is switch, but Cancel is a better hitter.
   116. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:16 PM (#2871507)
Jon Niese is pitching in Binghamton now, so I doubt he will be called up for Saturday. So far 5 innings, 5 hits, 1BB and 7K.

Well, that sucks.
   117. Joshemy Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:16 PM (#2871508)
I don't like bunting there with Jose.

How about a little Endy Magic?
   118. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:16 PM (#2871509)
I don't think I'd have bunted, but it's probably not a big deal one way or the other.
   119. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:16 PM (#2871510)
If you get Chavez you are begging for an IBB to Wright.
   120. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:16 PM (#2871511)
I don't like bunting there. I like Reyes' chances against Romero there.
   121. Dan Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:16 PM (#2871512)
Great idea to use one of your better hitters to bunt a guy too slow to score from second on a single to second.
   122. billyshears Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:17 PM (#2871513)
I don't sacrifice Reyes for Endy. Endy looked clueless at the plate last night.
   123. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:17 PM (#2871514)
This is retarded. Bunting with Reyes to setup a Chavez vs. Romero matchup.
   124. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:17 PM (#2871515)
C'mon D-Dub!
   125. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:17 PM (#2871516)
I don't think that's a hit even if it gets past Romero, but it was a nice catch.
   126. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:17 PM (#2871518)
Manuel's made some bad moves of late. Unless Reyes bunted there on his own.
   127. billyshears Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:17 PM (#2871519)
Did Endy really "line out to the pitcher"?
   128. Mark S. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:18 PM (#2871522)
And in bang-your-head-against-the-wall news from Binghamton, Fernando Martinez was lifted for a pinch runner in the 4th inning.
   129. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:18 PM (#2871523)
It was a soft broken bat liner.
   130. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:18 PM (#2871524)
D-Dub? Seriously?
   131. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:18 PM (#2871525)
Come on Carlos.
   132. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:18 PM (#2871526)
Did Endy really "line out to the pitcher"?

Sort of.
   133. PreservedFish Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:19 PM (#2871527)
Now I'm convinced. Bunting a slow runner to second, giving up an out, and handing Endy and Delgado on a platter to a lefty-killer makes it a dumb move.
   134. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:20 PM (#2871530)
Ooh, that was a close 0-0 pitch.
   135. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:20 PM (#2871532)
Yeah, lefties seriously have like 5 hits off Romero this year or something.
   136. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:21 PM (#2871534)
Delgado taking some good hacks here.
   137. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:21 PM (#2871535)
5-68.
   138. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:22 PM (#2871537)
DELGADO!!!
   139. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:22 PM (#2871538)
CARLOS DELGADO IS AWESOME!
   140. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:22 PM (#2871539)
DELGADO!!!
   141. Joshemy Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:22 PM (#2871542)
DELGADIT DOUBLE!
   142. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:22 PM (#2871543)
Romero is really annoying though. Just looking at his last 365 days, he has allowed 38 hits in 68.2 IP. How is that possible? 43 BB in those innings too.
   143. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:23 PM (#2871545)
AND THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T IBB SUGAR PANTS!
   144. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:23 PM (#2871544)
DELGADO!!!!!
   145. Dan Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:23 PM (#2871546)
Nice piece of hitting by Delgado.
   146. PreservedFish Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:23 PM (#2871547)
Carlos Delgado! MVP!
   147. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:23 PM (#2871548)
ok well DELGADO!
   148. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:23 PM (#2871549)
What happened with Delgado? Thrown out at second? Was he trying to draw a throw to allow Wright to score?
   149. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:23 PM (#2871550)
I'll punch you in the face if you blow this, Billy.
   150. manchestermets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:24 PM (#2871551)
6-69. Sweet. I'll even let him off making the third out.
   151. billyshears Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:24 PM (#2871553)
And in bang-your-head-against-the-wall news from Binghamton, Fernando Martinez was lifted for a pinch runner in the 4th inning.

Maybe he is being called up. Or maybe he shattered all of the bones in his legs.
   152. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:24 PM (#2871555)
Thrown out at third.
   153. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:24 PM (#2871556)

Thrown out at third, trying to draw a throw. Smart play.
   154. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:24 PM (#2871557)
Conor, Delgado tried to advance to third on the throw home, but got thrown out.
   155. manchestermets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:25 PM (#2871559)
Thrown out at third, Conor.
   156. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:25 PM (#2871560)
I'll make you a eunuch, Country Time.
   157. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:25 PM (#2871562)
Thats what I figured.

Ok Billy. You knwo what happens to your face if you blow this.
   158. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:25 PM (#2871564)
Man, Victorino annoys me.
   159. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:25 PM (#2871565)
Phillies have had the same part, around the 5th or 6th spot leading off each of the 3 9th innings in this series.
   160. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:26 PM (#2871567)
First out. Always a big one.

Two more.
   161. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:26 PM (#2871568)
One down.
   162. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:26 PM (#2871570)
Stress-free ninth?
   163. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:27 PM (#2871571)
One.
   164. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:27 PM (#2871572)
Long out from Feliz. I can't believe it'll be this easy.

One more.
   165. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:27 PM (#2871573)
Two.
   166. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:27 PM (#2871574)
I should not have posted my last thought.
   167. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:27 PM (#2871575)
Rollins bats as tying run. Of. Course.
   168. billyshears Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:27 PM (#2871576)
Everybody shut up about "easy" or "stress free."
   169. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:28 PM (#2871578)
The Mets are going to win today.
   170. Joshemy Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:28 PM (#2871579)
Happy recap! And first place!
   171. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:28 PM (#2871580)
First place!
   172. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:28 PM (#2871581)
BILLY ####### WAGNER! I HATE YOU LESS THAN I PREVIOUSLY PROFESSED!
   173. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:28 PM (#2871582)
The Mets remain in first place, but the Phillies are now in second place. Huzzah!
   174. PreservedFish Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:28 PM (#2871583)
HELLS YES FIRST PLACE
   175. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:28 PM (#2871584)
FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!

Clearly, Billy is afraid of me.
   176. billyshears Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:29 PM (#2871585)
Good series. As painful as the first loss was, can't complain about 2 out of 3.
   177. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:30 PM (#2871588)
Billy loves his testicles.
   178. Chris Dial Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:30 PM (#2871590)
I do like those guys swing at the first pitch though.
   179. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:31 PM (#2871592)
Can you believe the Mets are in first and in July? I never thought they'd make up this much ground so quickly.
   180. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:32 PM (#2871593)
This game seems so ethereal to me.
   181. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:35 PM (#2871596)
Yeah this has been a completely different team the past 6 weeks. The increased playing time for Castro, the inexplicable usefulness of Tatis, and the complete turnarounds for Delgado, Pelfrey, and Perez. It's been fun.

Also, it's very strange to be out of baseball to watch at 2:30 in the afternoon.
   182. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:35 PM (#2871597)
This was a great game to watch.

With Perez pitching like he has (2.53 ERA in his last 9 starts), you have to love their chances.
   183. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:36 PM (#2871598)
The Mets have made up 8 games in 33 days. Not 7 in 17, but not too bad.
   184. PreservedFish Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:36 PM (#2871599)
I can't believe it. It's amazing. It went from disaster-season to magic-season in about 3 weeks
   185. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:39 PM (#2871600)
33 games, not days. Sorry.
   186. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:39 PM (#2871602)
That was awesome.

Can we do it again?
   187. haplo53 Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:49 PM (#2871609)
Great game. It had people in my office riveted to the TV in the conference room.
   188. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 03:17 PM (#2871647)
First place, baby.
   189. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 04:07 PM (#2871715)
Heyman on WFAN saying FMart left because of a cramp. Hopefully that's all it is.
