   101. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:24 PM (#2921095)
I would have put in a bet that a game in which Bob Howry appeared would have required the first use of instant replay.

Mighty Mouse!

I like Mike Fontenot.
   103. NTNgod Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:28 PM (#2921098)
Cubs are deciding to make it interesting, at least.
   104. NTNgod Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:32 PM (#2921100)
Contact with the Mets' bullpen might have proven that they're contagious, given the Phils' bullpen the last two days.
   105. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:35 PM (#2921102)
It's pretty hard to hold the Cubs down for a whole game at Wrigley. We've been shut out twice, held to 1 run once, and 2 runs 6 times. That's 9 times in 68 home games we've been held to 3 or less runs.

"less than 3"
   107. SteveM. Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:37 PM (#2921105)
Aramis!!!!!!
   108. NTNgod Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:37 PM (#2921106)
Grand slam. Phils have definitely been infected by the Mets.
   109. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:37 PM (#2921107)
This offense is RIDICULOUS!!!

I like Aramis Ramirez too.
   110. Chris Dial Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2921108)
Oh no he didn't!
   111. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2921109)
That's a Metesque meltdown.
   112. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2921110)
Now the question is, who pitches the 9th?
   113. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2921111)
389? No ####### way.
   114. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:40 PM (#2921115)
Maddux- No ####. If that wasn't 400+, then we must have switched to the metric system when I wasn't looking.
   115. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:43 PM (#2921118)
KW??? No. No, no, no. 4th day in a row???
   116. NTNgod Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:43 PM (#2921120)
Did Kasper just say that when Soto is hitting poorly (like tonight), it makes his defense better?!?!?! What?
   117. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:45 PM (#2921122)
I'm so jealous of my friend right now. I had a meeting at 10, so I was keeping tabs on this inning via Yahoo alone. As soon as I saw Aramis had homered, I ran outside, called him and tried to share the moment with my buddy. He said the sound when he hit it was insane.
   118. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2921123)
A. This is why Lou's bullpen follies on Tuesday in Pittsburgh were so stupid, and why KW should never have seen action that day.
B. Marmol is not available 3 days in a row?
C. Hell, I'd rather put Go-Dan or BPJ out there to try to save it.

Lou remembers that this is KERRY "Towel Drill" WOOD, right?
   119. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:48 PM (#2921128)
Quick, Reed, run into someone!
   120. NTNgod Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:48 PM (#2921129)
That play actually worked?
   121. NTNgod Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2921131)
They're bringing back BH 90210? Geez, no wonder I watch very little television.
   122. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2921132)
NTN: Cubbie Occurrence.

Oh, I have a bad feeling about this.
   123. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2921135)
That laugh was "Hawk"-like homer obnoxiousness from Brenly.
   124. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:53 PM (#2921137)
"Grand slam. Phils have definitely been infected by the Mets."

If by Mets, you mean, "The Phillies pen has been a total ####### fluke", then I agree.

Regression to the mean is a harsh ####### mistress. I'm pretty sure she's gave Mozart the Siff that eventually killed him.
   125. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:56 PM (#2921140)
Someone provide some PBP. I'm still not able to access a TV, so it's Yahoo or bust for me.
   126. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:57 PM (#2921142)
No outs, Rollins on 1st, 1-2 on Utley
   127. NTNgod Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:57 PM (#2921143)
This Utley AB has been throw-over, foul, repeat for the most part.
   128. NTNgod Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2921144)
Utley hit it to the warning track in CF. Just missed it.
   129. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2921145)
Utley flies to the track in center. 1 out.
   130. NTNgod Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:59 PM (#2921146)
Flyout to shallow CF, Rollins almost doubled off.
   131. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:59 PM (#2921147)
I like the international flavor of this chatter, BTW: a couple Cubs fan, a Brewers fan, a couple of Mets fans...and, I don't know. A Maddux fan? So I guess a Dodger fan?
   132. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:59 PM (#2921148)
That's probably off the bricks in CBP. Poor baby.

One down. C'mon Woody!
   133. NTNgod Posted: August 28, 2008 at 10:59 PM (#2921149)
Wood, the last two pitches, has thrown the ball down the middle. Gotta stop doing that.
   134. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:00 PM (#2921150)
Maddux is an Oakland A fan who loves Maddux.
   135. NTNgod Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2921151)
Howard sawed off, pop up to Ramirez playing short. Game over.
   136. SteveM. Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2921152)
Cubs win!!! Go Cubs GO!!
   137. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2921153)
Popout to short. CUBS WIN!!!
   138. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2921155)
Thank you, Cubbies.
   139. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2921156)
Fantastic win. You can't win them all and tonight would've been an understandable sort of loss. But this team just doesn't quit and they play until they're done. Pedal to the metal!
   140. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2921157)
KERRY ####### WOOD. YOU ####### BETTER RECOGNIZE!
   141. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2921158)
Unreal. The victory lever is stuck on "automatic" right now.

23.

Until they play the Mets in late September, right? No hard feelings for the Victor Diaz HR?
   143. SteveM. Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:03 PM (#2921160)
This team never quits. They are the most fun team I have ever followed or watched.
   144. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:04 PM (#2921161)
When Ryan Theriot has a higher OBP than David Wright, well, its probably going to be your year.

If all breaks well for us by then, our rotation for that series might be Sean Marshall, Jon Lieber, and Chet Steadman.
   146. SteveM. Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2921164)
Six and a half over the Brewers. Got to love it.
   147. I can out-debate Joe Biden; Nieporent said so Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2921165)
Oh, sorry, it's four games. Maybe we'll let Jim Belushi or John Cusack pitch.
   148. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2921166)
I could write a manifesto on the differences between the 2004 Cubs and this incarnation, 142. I don't think we need to worry about Chad Gaudin calling up to the booth during a game to complain about Brenly's criticisms.
   149. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 28, 2008 at 11:10 PM (#2921167)
145 caused me to burst out with an embarrassing laugh in a semi-crowded office. Well done.
