This is all on Marmol now.
   202. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: August 29, 2008 at 04:57 PM (#2922036)
Marmol for the 5 out save. I approve.
   203. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 04:58 PM (#2922037)
Lou must be reading this board from a laptop in the dugout.
   204. Moses Taylor didn't fall far from the awesome tree Posted: August 29, 2008 at 04:59 PM (#2922038)
retro, what I mean was that on the replays I could see it was a no doubter. But when he hit it, I wondered why he was watching it. Lee hit one earlier that would have a HR yesterday, so I thought the wind was gonna knock it down.
   205. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 04:59 PM (#2922039)
And the double-switch brings Cedeno in to play short, which is probably an upgrade.

retro, what I mean was that on the replays I could see it was a no doubter.

Yeah, with the wind blowing in, he must've smoked it. GameDay made it look like it cleared the wall by plenty.
   207. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:01 PM (#2922044)
This umps strike zone is inconsistent as hell.
   208. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:01 PM (#2922046)
I was just thinking, Feliz is the sort of free swinger Marmol should eat alive.
   209. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:02 PM (#2922048)
That last third strike by Marmol was maybe the nastiest pitch he has thrown all year.
   210. Moses Taylor didn't fall far from the awesome tree Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:02 PM (#2922049)
My goodness, Marmol is a ####### stud.

Coste lost his bat at strike 3 there.
   211. Sweet Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:02 PM (#2922050)
Oh my, was that a thing of beauty. No one quite like Marmol.
   212. Sam M. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:02 PM (#2922051)
Well, that was one heck of an embarrassing AB for Coste. Boy, did Marmol make him look foolish.
   213. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:03 PM (#2922052)
Man. Carlos gets a hitter in an 0-1 hole, he's gotta be as tough as any pitcher in baseball. He's got a tough assignment next inning.
   214. Moses Taylor didn't fall far from the awesome tree Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:03 PM (#2922055)
MLB Gameday has Soriano's HR up.
   215. Sweet Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:05 PM (#2922058)
Marmol:

72.3 IP
32 H
3.93 H/9

No pitcher in baseball history has ever allowed less than 4 hits per 9 innings in a season in which he threw more than 50 innings.
   216. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:06 PM (#2922059)
MLB Gameday has Soriano's HR up.

Yeah, but I can't watch it on my crapass work PC. I'll have to wait till I get home.
   217. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:06 PM (#2922060)
Be very nice to get an insurance run here.
   218. will Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:06 PM (#2922061)
If Phillies can avoid giving up runs in the 8th (which has been disaster area for last 3 weeks ), they'll have 4 lefties to start the 9th.
   219. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:07 PM (#2922063)
Good patience by the Cubs today--7 walks. Of course, the Phils have drawn 6.
   220. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:08 PM (#2922064)
If Phillies can avoid giving up runs in the 8th (which has been disaster area for last 3 weeks ), they'll have 4 lefties to start the 9th.

I suspect they'll have those lefties regardless.
   221. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:09 PM (#2922065)
Nice job Edmonds. Now lets get at least one of the runners home.
   222. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:09 PM (#2922066)
Attaboy, TOFU. Cash in, Clutchy.
   223. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:10 PM (#2922070)
Clutchy with the sac. Whatever.
   224. Sam M. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:12 PM (#2922072)
I have a deep aversion to players named R. Cedeno. Help me out with that.
   225. Weeks T. Olive Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:15 PM (#2922075)
Damn. Nice AB, though.
   226. Sam M. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:15 PM (#2922076)
Bah. He swings like Roger.
   227. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:15 PM (#2922077)
Dammit. Pinch hit Fontenot here?
   228. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:16 PM (#2922079)
Wasn't Roger lefthanded?
   229. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:16 PM (#2922081)
Well, that's a fairly shitty AB from Heinrich Weiss. Marmol's got his work cut out for him.
   230. Weeks T. Olive Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:17 PM (#2922082)
Double damn.
   231. Moses Taylor didn't fall far from the awesome tree Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:17 PM (#2922083)
PH Fontenot for Hank, retro, is that what you were suggesting? The Phils had a lefty ready, so Lou could have burned him and Lou could have had Soto face the LHP. And I have no problem with DeRo's sacrifice. It was the right move.

Decent AB by Ronny after falling behind early, he did swing at ball 4 twice though.
   232. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:18 PM (#2922085)
No pitcher in baseball history has ever allowed less than 4 hits per 9 innings in a season in which he threw more than 50 innings.

Really? That is mindblowing stuff from Marmol then.
   233. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:19 PM (#2922088)
I didn't really object to the sac, though I have a lot of confidence in DeRosa these days.

And yeah, that's exactly what I was suggesting re. Fontenot--I'm happy to have him facing the righthander, or Soto facing the lefty.
   234. Sweet Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:19 PM (#2922091)
Really? That is mindblowing stuff from Marmol then.

Really. (So sayeth Pat Hughes, and B-R confirms.)

Decent AB by Ronny after falling behind early, he did swing at ball 4 twice though.

Then again, it sounds like what ball four is or is not might vary from pitch to pitch today, so I guess he can't be faulted.
   236. Sam M. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:20 PM (#2922093)
Roger Cedeno was a switch-hitter. Although I use the term "hitter" advisedly.
   237. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:21 PM (#2922095)
That was a nice over the shoulder catch by DLee.
   238. Sam M. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:21 PM (#2922096)
Atta boy, Derrek! One more, Cubbies!
   239. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:21 PM (#2922097)
Heh, Marmol has a .130 BAA this season and a .505 OPSA
   240. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:22 PM (#2922098)
What the hell was wrong with that 2-0 pitch? This umpire is driving me nuts.
   241. There's a chill wind blowing in Misirlou's soul Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:23 PM (#2922101)
According to game center, it was right down the middle belt high.
   242. Weeks T. Olive Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:24 PM (#2922102)
22! 18! Go, Cubs, Go!
   243. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:24 PM (#2922103)
ATTABOY, CARLOS!!!
   244. Sam M. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:24 PM (#2922104)
Cubs win!!

Mets win!!

Everybody wins!!
   245. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:24 PM (#2922105)
Cubs win baby! Go Cubs Go!
That last pitch by Marmol was filthy.
   246. Moses Taylor didn't fall far from the awesome tree Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:24 PM (#2922106)
W!

Marmol is arguably the most dominating pitcher in all of baseball.
   247. Sweet Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:25 PM (#2922108)
I love Marmol-aid.
   248. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:25 PM (#2922109)
The starting pitching is starting to concern me despite the wins.
   249. Sweet Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:26 PM (#2922113)
First MLB win for Bullpen Jesus. Amen to that.
   250. John DiFool2 Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:26 PM (#2922114)
Congrats Cubbies fans. Starting pitching or no they are hot hot hot right now.
   251. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:26 PM (#2922116)
Marmol being cured of his month-long case of Steve Blass Disease is one of the best things in a second half full of good things. Other than that stretch, he's been just about automatic.
   252. Moses Taylor didn't fall far from the awesome tree Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:27 PM (#2922118)
I don't think Marmol speaks any English. If he does, this interview is very deceiving.
   253. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:28 PM (#2922120)
If they win tomorrow, will that be 9 series in a row they have won? Just incredible. What a magical season.
   254. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:29 PM (#2922121)
The starting pitching is starting to concern me despite the wins.

Meh. You worry too much. I still think Zambrano'll be fine despite his awful August, even when Harden's off he goes 5 and doesn't give up much, and I'm not exactly sounding the alarms on Dempster after 1 mediocre start against a good offense. Lilly's been solid after his awful start.
   255. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:30 PM (#2922122)
Believe it'll be 10 straight series, Steve.
   256. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:30 PM (#2922123)
Hell, even Marquis looked good in last start-granting that he faced the Pirates,
   257. Weeks T. Olive Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:30 PM (#2922124)
It'll be 10 in a row, I think, which'll include two 4 game series (Mil, and this one).
   258. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:31 PM (#2922125)
Wow, ten straight series. That is as impressive as it gets.
   259. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:32 PM (#2922129)
Wow, ten straight series. That is as impressive as it gets.

21 straight, the last coming around Halloween, would be yet more impressive.
   260. Srul Itza Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:33 PM (#2922131)
I don't think Marmol speaks any English.

That's gonna sink his chances on the LPGA tour.
   261. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:35 PM (#2922133)
Well that, and he's not a lesbian.
   262. Sam M. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:36 PM (#2922137)
What a magical season.

Yes . . . and no. It's not magic when the team is really, really good, top to bottom. It's just damned impressive. And these Cubs certainly are.

It just feels like magic. ;-)
   263. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:37 PM (#2922139)
I should add-not that there is anything wrong with that,
   264. retro-shiite Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:38 PM (#2922141)
Well that, and he's not a lesbian.

You sure? I bet if you asked him, he'd say he likes women.
   265. SteveM. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:40 PM (#2922142)
Sam, I have been a Cubs fan for all of my 38 years. I have never followed a team this fun. Its more then the simple winning, its the fact that this team is likable (unlike say the Dusty years) and that everyone on the team, even the backup catcher, has contributed this season. No matter what they do, this is my favorite team. My son and I watched every game while he was with me this summer, something I hope he always remembers.
   266. Sam M. Posted: August 29, 2008 at 05:44 PM (#2922148)
My son and I watched every game while he was with me this summer, something I hope he always remembers.

Now, that's magical.
