And they're skipping Niese. Four-man rotation for the next two weeks, effectively.
Not concerned at all for the regular season.
Tiny bit concerned for the post-season, if the Mets make it.
Somewhat concerned about mid-term and longer-term implications.
I really wish they had any other choice -- any other reasonable choice, that is. But they really don't, and since his overall innings total is just not that outlandish, I can't see seriously compromising the team's chance in the division race based ONLY on the increase in innings. Because that really is the only worrisome indicator. His pitch counts are actually quite reasonable.
Full speed ahead, and cross your fingers. I don't think it amounts to a practice that is unfair to Pelfrey or abusive of his future.
I wonder how many total pitches he threw in 2007 v. how many total pitches he's thrown this year to get through those innings. He is so much more efficient this year, or at least he has been since the turn-around. By throwing strikes consistently, he is able to get through innings w/ fewer pitches. To me, if you look at the basic thesis about increased workload (don't increase it too much year-to-year) that Verducci put forward, but express it in total pitches instead of IP, I bet Pelfrey has more room to work with than you'd think looking just at the IP.
How about the 10-game road trip in 2006 where they went 9-1, including a sweep of the Phillies?
####### retard.
And that throw didn't help.
Howard HR (career)
Home: 84
Road: 84
Pat Burrell with a Daniel Murphy impression in the outfield.
As much as I love what Murphy is doing, I don't want to get to excited. I remember Diaz's April 2005.
Howard HR (career)
Home: 84
Road: 84
That doesn't mean he hasn't benefited from his home ballpark. I am not saying he is or isn't but those splits don't mean much.
Diaz's K/BB ratio is not Murphy's and neither was his approach.
Russlan, Russlan, Russlan. Will you never learn to trust me???
Daniel Murphy is to Victor Diaz as David Wright is to Jason Phillips.
Trust me.
STOP IT, YOU GIANT GOOF.
No question. In majors and minors combined, Pelfrey faced 690 batters in 2007. In 2008, he's faced 719 prior to the start of this game.
I don't see him as having labored a whole lot more this year than last year. He's averaging 102 pitches per start this year, which doesn't seem too outrageous.
Just wanted to vent and was already on the site - nothing personal. Feel free to return to self-loathing.
That's one excellent indication that the workload issue isn't captured all that well (or at least not completely) by the IP increase. It'd also be interesting to know the average number of pitches per hitter, but I doubt we have that data available for the minor league starts.
Like I said, if we had another good choice, giving Pelfrey a start or two off would be ideal. But we don't, and I'm not overly worried about it.
It'd almost be worth it.
Kudos, Pelf. You get the $5 shake for $1 at Jack Rabbit Slim's. On me.
Leave my alma mater out of this. He was a baseball player. Though reportedly very smart. Speaks multiple languages.
But what's with the ####### K's? STOP IT!
This kid's approach. Victor Diaz??? Are you kidding me??? If Diaz had hit the way this kid does, he'd have been a superstar.
Whatever happens, the Mets cannot get swept... well, they can, I guess, but it would be really really really really bad for them.
Agreed. I could give a rat's ass if the Mets lost the series.
The Mets are ######.
Fortunately, free WiFi.
Why wouldn't you just use Parnell in a game like this and save Stokes? Its ####### over.
