Evans has had some good ABs today.

A day late and several thousand dollars short, David.

The only Met about whom you can say that today, sadly.

What about Robinson "On Base Machine" Cancel?

Runs!
   106. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 04:42 PM (#2932095)
Please, save them for tonight. We'll need it.
   107. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 04:43 PM (#2932096)
This rally is -- sadly -- just of the "Why don't they save it for Game 2" variety.
   108. haplo53 Posted: September 07, 2008 at 04:43 PM (#2932097)
Maybe they can make them burn Lidge today.
   109. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 04:44 PM (#2932099)
The other thing you can say about this rally is that it makes the defensive lapses from earlier relevant. By my count, if we'd played a clean defensive game, it should have been 2-0 until this inning.

I swear, if the Mets lose this 6-5, i'll be more upset than if they had just laid down.

That would be very Mets, wouldn't it?
   112. will Posted: September 07, 2008 at 04:46 PM (#2932103)
Yes!
   113. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 04:46 PM (#2932104)
Thank You.

Yes, it would. Except BlowDuca isn't here to swing at the first pitch.

Just got back from the group meeting. Lovely.
   115. haplo53 Posted: September 07, 2008 at 04:47 PM (#2932107)
What were we saying the other night? We need the Phils to bring back Schilling and the Mets to bring back Olerud for the ninth inning here.
   116. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 04:51 PM (#2932110)
What's amazing is that Schilling threw 131 pitches in that game and was allowed to stay in and take the loss.

Tito is a sooper genius.

Given the metric ton of hardware won between Schilling and Tito, they've sort of had the last laugh.
   118. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 04:55 PM (#2932115)
If the Mets somehow do get four (or better yet, five) in the 9th, this would be the greatest event in the history of the known universe. And probably the unknown universe, too, but since it's unknown, you can't say for sure.
   119. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 04:58 PM (#2932119)
There is no way Tatis should be hitting here. No way.
   120. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 04:59 PM (#2932120)
Tatis wasn't hitting. He was striking out.
   121. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 05:00 PM (#2932121)
Good point. My choice of verb was both loose and inaccurate.

If they get five here, hopefully the unknown universe will provide all of us with celebratory unicorn steaks.

Charlie obviously has very little confidence in Madsen.....good decision to pull him......
   124. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 05:02 PM (#2932125)
Well, Scott Eyre pitched in this game. He was part of the Cubs debacle last year.

So there's hope!

The hell with celebratory unicorn steaks. I want me a centaur for the night.

Two down...one to go !
   127. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 05:05 PM (#2932133)
Why are they playing the theme from Jurassic Park? Did they actually watch that movie? Jurassic Park was a disaster!
   128. strong silence Posted: September 07, 2008 at 09:39 PM (#2932425)
Neutral party here but if I'm a Met's fan I like my chances. The Met's have four of the NL's ten best players and the cause of last year's collapse is gone. That is a winning formula.
   129. strong silence Posted: September 07, 2008 at 09:48 PM (#2932446)
Delgado HR makes it 5-2. If he can be hot for 3 weeks, the Mets are in good shape.
