A win here makes the first two games of this series not that big a deal.
   2. will Posted: September 07, 2008 at 06:09 PM (#2932185)
A win for the Phillies here makes this series a VERY big deal.

Tonight could be the Mets' best night of the last two years, or yet another in a growing list of the worst.

One "benefit" of enduring the end of 2007 is that it makes any other failure seem pedestrian and in some ways, more tolerable.

I have a great feeling about this game.
   5. Joshemy Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:09 PM (#2932222)
I have complete faith in Johan Santana.
   6. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:10 PM (#2932223)
It'll be a pitchers' duel. Santana will be fine. So will Hamels. Should be a treat.
   7. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2932225)
Let's go Mets.
   8. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:13 PM (#2932226)
I hate Chase Utley. Come on Johan.
   9. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:13 PM (#2932227)
OFF!!! What's up?
   10. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2932228)
Nothing much. I graduated from the university, went backpacking around the world, and I just moved to Minneapolis. How's everyone? It's been a while.
   11. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2932229)
Just what we did NOT need -- a tough, long first inning. A DP would be very, very nice here.
   12. Joshemy Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2932230)
OFF! It's been a long time, dude!
   13. will Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2932232)
Now THAT'S a nice start...
   14. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2932233)
That's not good. We needed a scoreless inning here to swing the momentum our way.
   15. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2932234)
Johan has to stop falling behind hitters. NO ONE can fall behind hitters. Period.
   16. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2932235)
Eh. One run is nothing.
   17. Metman died today. Or yesterday maybe, Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:19 PM (#2932236)
So, I guess Johan isnt throwing a 3 hit shutout, is he? More like 6 innings at this rate
   18. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:20 PM (#2932238)
He's nibbling like he's Al ####### Leiter or something. Challenge these guys, Johan.
   19. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:21 PM (#2932239)
Sam is cracking.
   20. Metman died today. Or yesterday maybe, Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:21 PM (#2932240)
Burrell just missed hitting that fastball of the Apple
   21. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2932241)
Oh my. Burell is just missing them. Come on Johan.
   22. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2932242)
Beauuuutiful.
   23. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2932243)
Gorgeous pitch. See what throwing strikes will do for you?? Excellent.
   24. will Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2932244)
Santana has owned Victorino this year (so far).
   25. Joshemy Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2932245)
Beautiful change for strike 3.
   26. Metman died today. Or yesterday maybe, Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2932246)
Good pitch
   27. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2932247)
Wahoo Sam?
   28. Joshemy Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2932248)
Minimal damage.
   29. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2932249)
Limited the damage. But that was way, way, WAY too many pitches. He's going to have to get a lot sharper to go long into this game.
   30. Metman died today. Or yesterday maybe, Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2932251)
26 pitches
   31. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2932252)
Those memories will never be erased, Miller. The idea is to embrace them and then write over them. They will always be there to some degree.
   32. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2932253)
We need the offense to wake up here. Or at the very least, to make Hamels throw a lot of pitches.
   33. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2932254)
Evans should be playing, not Tatis.
   34. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2932255)
They'll hit. I just want to see a good approach.
   35. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2932256)
I like Church in the second spot.
   36. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2932257)
The 3-1 pitch was . . . oh, about a foot outside.
   37. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2932258)
That was outside.
   38. Joshemy Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2932259)
I don't know how that wasn't ball 4.
   39. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2932260)
Too many popups from Jose this series.
   40. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2932261)
I don't care about the popups. I care about the NOTHING. Reyes has done a lot of that in this series.
   41. haplo53 Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2932262)
Too many popups from Jose this series.

You could feel that one coming. Not a good sign.
   42. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2932263)
OK, David. Now have a good approach -- control the zone, use the opposite field. IOW, be David Wright. Please?
   43. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:32 PM (#2932264)
Awesome. Catcher's interference! This inning is now exactly like the top of the inning -- out, hit, walk/CI. Now we need the RBI.
   44. Fred C. Dobbs Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2932265)
Just read that Wagner had pain in his elbow throwing in his bullpen session...going back to have it examined tomorrow. Not good.
   45. Joshemy Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2932266)
Charlie's out!
   46. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2932267)
That was lucky.
   47. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2932268)
Lets go Mets!
   48. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2932270)
And here comes the dinger.

LET'S GO METS!
   49. haplo53 Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2932271)
Just read that Wagner had pain in his elbow throwing in his bullpen session...going back to have it examined tomorrow. Not good.

Have they really missed him though? Ayala and Co. seem to blow games as often as he did.
   50. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2932272)
Why is Manuel arguing so much? The catcher didn't complain.
   51. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2932273)
There's no doubt it hit his glove. Should be an easy call.
   52. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2932274)
Beltran!
   53. Joshemy Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2932275)
Beltran!
   54. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2932277)
Wagner's not helping again this season.
   55. haplo53 Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2932276)
Mets get away with boneheaded baserunning.
   56. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2932278)
BELT-RUNS!
   57. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2932279)
Thatta baby!!!!! Beltran does the job -- let's keep it going, boys!
   58. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2932280)
That was lucky.
   59. Alan S Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2932281)
Hooray!
   60. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2932282)
Yes. Carlos stepping up big time. Come on, Carlos 2, get us the lead.
   61. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2932284)
Base hit plates two, Carlos II. Even a fly ball gives us the lead. Do it.
   62. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2932286)
Wright was out, lucky break.
   63. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2932287)
SF, Delgado.
   64. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2932288)
Yay Carloses!
   65. Alan S Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2932289)
Delgado! MVP!!! (Don't yell at me)
   66. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2932290)
Delgado. Big.
   67. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2932291)
Come on, rise up.
Come on, rise up.
Come on, riiiiiiiiiiiiiise up!!!!!!
   68. Joshemy Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2932292)
Delgado!!
   69. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2932293)
WOOT!
   70. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2932294)
Big hit, Delgado. Big hit.
   71. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2932295)
Okay. Okay. But where's the dinger? I WANT MY DINGER!
   72. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2932296)
So am I allowed to say -- even as a Mets' fan -- that I would do Cole Hamels any time, anywhere? Man, he's good looking.
   73. Alan S Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2932297)
Jamie Moyer shuts them down, then they come out and get to Hamels right away. This team is a mystery to me.
   74. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2932298)
Delgado has a million-watt smile doesn't he? Isiah Thomas is another guy like that.
   75. The District Attorney Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2932299)
So am I allowed to say -- even as a Mets' fan -- that I would do Cole Hamels any time, anywhere?
Only if it would distract him and help the Mets.
   76. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2932300)
Lets take some pitches. Drive Hamels pitch count up.
   77. Alan S Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2932301)
Please don't compare Delgado to Isiah Thomas anymore, Russlan.
   78. haplo53 Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2932302)
Feels like a playoff game.
   79. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2932303)
Delgado has a million-watt smile doesn't he? Isiah Thomas is another guy like that.

98% of the comparisons you would make to Isiah are defamatory. Good you chose one of the 2%.
   80. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2932304)
Between #72 and #74 this thread took an odd turn.
   81. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2932305)
Bah. No dinger.

But three runs. That I like.
   82. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2932308)
Wow. If the 3-1 pitch to Reyes was a strike, that 1-2 pitch had to be, too.

Not that it matters now.
   83. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2932309)
Between #72 and #74 this thread took an odd turn.

Get your mind out of the gutter.
   84. Harris Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2932310)
glad to see the home team get some bull$hit calls.
   85. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2932311)
glad to see the home team get some bull$hit calls.

I'll admit that Wright came off the bag and should have been out. But please don't try to claim the catcher's interference was a bad call. It was obvious and correct.

Don't walk the 8th place hitter, Johan. You won't like me when you walk the 8th place hitter.
   86. haplo53 Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2932312)
Not that it matters now.

Not that Santana's helping himself with two walks thus far, but his pitch count is in pretty crappy shape. Everything adds up.
   87. Alan S Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2932313)
Nice play, Johan. Though it would've been better if you just didn't walk the 8 hitter.
   88. Joshemy Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2932314)
Santana is such a good fielder.
   89. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2932315)
You better bring a better bunt than that against Johan, Cole. That won't do it.
   90. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2932316)
Good job, Johan.
   91. Joshemy Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2932317)
The Shea crowd giving Jimmy the "Overrated" chant.
   92. Harris Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2932318)
glad to see the home team get some bull$hit calls.
   93. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2932319)
The diamondbacks have lost 6 games in the standings 8 or 9 days.
   94. The District Attorney Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2932320)
The radio guys are wondering what the crowd is chanting at Rollins.

Was it "overrated"?

If so, points for accuracy.
   95. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2932321)
That is the way to shut 'em down after the 3-spot. Keep the lead and get your hitters back into the box. Outstanding.
   96. haplo53 Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2932322)
94: that's what it sounded like. College hoops-esque.
   97. Harris Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2932323)
sorry for the double post...laptop wireless acting up. wouldn't let me refresh without resending the original post. Not meant to be a double post for emphasis.
   98. haplo53 Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2932324)
College hoops-esque.

To amend that statement, I'm not saying that's a bad thing.
   99. Sam M. Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2932327)
A nice fringe benefit of a win tonight: it would push the Braves to the brink of elimination for the third straight year. Their tragic number would be 1 with a Mets' win tonight.
   100. Alan S Posted: September 07, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2932329)
Oh, how I hate Joe Morgan. Even when not being wrong, he makes his "points" in the most incoherent way possible.
