In case Benji Gil Gamesh happens by: Hershiser's calling this one with Dan Shulman on ESPN Radio.

Stuff I want to see tonight:

Torre pays off Pujols to sit in seats behind Homeplate and just stare at Lidge

Lidge v. Manny: 9th Inning

I want a ####### replay now! It's driving me nuts! It is driving Lassus nuts!

Crowd shots of GOOD celebrities, not FOX celebrities (like THAT will ever happen!). I would like NO shots of non-baseball celebrities, but I'm a realist.

A game that end before midnight. I can't sleep until 1:00 PM tomorrow.

A home run into the night... as you see the car taillights of the Dodger "fans" driving away to beat traffic.

VIN. SCULLY. Show some class Fox, let him into the booth to call an inning.

Greg Maddux: Reliever.
   3. JJ1986 Posted: October 12, 2008 at 07:49 PM (#2980007)
I find it odd that the Dodgers are heavily favored in this game. The line I check had them at -160. Moyer and Kuroda had almost equal ERA+ this year. The Phillies have a slightly better bullpen and if the Dodgers lineup is better, they're giving that advantage away by starting Nomar Garciaparra. Home field is simply not worth that much. I'd guess the line's being driven by the fact that it's rare a team goes up 3-0, but that has no bearing on this individual contest.
   4. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2980024)
Moyer is so old, he remembers facing the Brooklyn Dodgers.

(Obligatory joke)

TIGER WOODS is at the game. (notches one on the non-Baseball celebrity count)
   6. The Drizz1e Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2980027)
The Red Sox/Rays chatter threads are up to at least 200 posts by gametime, no love for this series?
   7. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2980030)
Drizz1le, it's because the Red Sox fans post so much.
   8. Buzzards Bay Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:21 PM (#2980032)
Too bad Fox couldn't finagle a credit default swap with asset backed securities to slide Scully in WHERE HE BELONGS -calling this game
   9. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:21 PM (#2980033)
If they put Scully in the booth, Buck and McCarver would just seem worse, so I can't root for that.

The LA Stadium is a little likely, as far as possibility for a replay, not a lot of wackiness or overhanging fans in the bleachers.

Gamingboy, is this another drive-by or are you going to hang around and watch the game?

Boras is in the front row behind home plate, I hear.
   10. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:21 PM (#2980034)
Danny Devitio and Rob something from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". We are now up to 3 non-Baseball celebrities.
   11. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2980035)
Lassus, I'll probably be here for most if not all the game, depending on length and other stuff that comes up.
   12. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2980036)
TIGER WOODS is at the game. (notches one on the non-Baseball celebrity count)

Gamingboy, what are you watching that you saw this?
   13. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2980037)
Joe Buck mentioned it during the throw from Football postgame to the Ballgame.
   14. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2980038)
Aww, dammit, the radio's behind. Yesterday it was perfect.
   15. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2980040)
If you have a DVR you could try and pause the game for a sec until it is synced up. I find doing that very hard and quite a pain the ass, though.
   16. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2980041)
Joe Buck mentioned it during the throw from Football postgame to the Ballgame

Got it. That makes sense.

Looks like a gorgeous night. I miss California. Not only that, but I was there during the smog years and riots, LA is way nicer now than it was then.

Oh please. I'd love to challenge Robo on that assertion. It seemed obvious to everyone the ball slipped, who exactly was upset?
   17. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2980043)
I expect at least 3 walks from Utley in this game, that is his established talent level of the near past.
   18. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2980044)
It would appear Manny was upset.

Crap. McCarver found his mike.

NICE!
   23. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2980050)
McCarver shouldn't even have a mic to find! O, we have MARY HART! We are now at 4 non-Baseball celebrities featured!
   24. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2980051)
Jamie Moyer? What's he, like 45? I could hit him.
   25. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2980052)
I didn't hear all of the thing with Robo, but I can't be on Manny's side there, that was just a slipped ball, and he made it clear right away.

Mary Hart talkin' trash!
   26. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2980053)
Almost everyone in the Dodgers lineup last time was thinner than the average MLB player, looks biracial, and has scruffy stubble all over their face. I can't tell these guys apart. At least Loney isn't playing today, I know what Garciaparra looks like at least.
   27. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2980054)
I hate FOX. Why couldn't they have, I don't know, SOMEBODY IN A DODGER UNIFORM say their lineup? Or, better yet: VIN SCULLY!?
   28. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2980055)
Ethier comes in to Heart's "Barracuda"?
   29. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2980056)
Mary Hart? I didn't recognize her without the legs.
   30. JJ1986 Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2980057)
All the Dodgers are thin because Andruw Jones ate up the majority of the postgame spread every day.
   31. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2980058)
Shulman and Hershiser on a delay > kick in the balls > terminal cancer > Buck and McCarver
   32. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2980059)
Or Vin Scully in a Dodger uniform? I hear if you wear one of those for more than 40 years your intellect devolves to sub-decadog status, so he's lucky he wasn't required to do so.
   33. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2980060)
First-ballot.
   34. Dan Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2980062)
Terrible time to throw home by Burrell. He has to throw to third there.
   35. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2980063)
Moyer hasn't been in a situation this bad since he got stuck in the great 1906 Earthquake when he was in the minors.
   36. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2980064)
The throw wasn't high, McCarver, it bounced. Way to ruin your otherwise accurate point.
   37. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2980065)
I'm older than Jamie Moyer. This thread isn't helping my self-esteem.
   38. bunyon Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2980066)
LA thinks the Phillies are throwing at them. But if they think that, you'd think they'd be prepared to take evasive action.
   39. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2980067)
McCarver with a little BDSM there. "That hurts good!"
   40. bunyon Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2980068)
I look older than Jamie Moyer.
   41. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2980070)
I predict that Moyer gives up five runs, gets zero outs, and then JA Happ comes in and retires 27 straight batters.
   42. Buzzards Bay Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2980072)
Hoping to see a lot of Bridgewater,Ma. Rich Dubee tonight----by the way, he was a hitting and pitching phenom/legend at Bridgewater-Raynham HS
   43. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2980073)
Moyer got Nomar. And here comes Casey Blake and his Youkesque beard.
   44. bunyon Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2980074)
Throw from Burrell costs a run.
   45. The Drizz1e Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2980075)
I suppose good "patience" by Blake, which completely ruins Moyer's Fox pitcher profile.
   46. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2980076)
Moyer has limited stamina. No need to waste 3 pitches on an intentional walk when you can just hit the guy.
   47. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2980077)
What, was Werth going to race someone to the plate?
   48. bunyon Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2980078)
damn, i missed the walk. my bad.
   49. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2980080)
I remember reading in a book (I believe it was Kurkjian's) that when Moyer is driving his kids around they sometimes tell him he is driving faster than he throws.
   50. bunyon Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2980081)
Hmm, most parents quit driving their kids around after they graduate from college.
   51. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2980082)
Those pitch trax things never ever look right.
   52. Posada Posse Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2980083)
2 strikeouts in the inning. Moyer is blowing them away.
   53. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2980084)
Bah. One pitch away from avoiding complete disaster.
   54. Gamingboy Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2980085)
Moyer might as well be throwing BP.
   55. bunyon Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2980086)
Manny hussled in from third.
   56. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2980087)
YES DODGERS!

Thank god someone who I want to win is finally doing so.

Crispix for the half-win.

Torre really likes Dewitt
   59. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2980091)
Okay, time for JA Happ to start giving some length.
   60. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2980093)
If the Dodgers had innovatively batted their pitcher 8th, that inning would have gone a lot better.
   61. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2980095)
Okay, time for JA Happ to start giving some length.

Option JA Happ?

Seriously, Joe Buck? Don't know much about Ryan Howard? Have you MISSED HIS SUBWAY ADVERTISEMENTS!?!
   63. JJ1986 Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2980097)
I don't imagine many people watching this game don't know who Ryan Howard is. But thanks, Joe Buck.
   64. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2980098)
Ryan Howard breaks out of his Soriano-esque post-season.
   65. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2980099)
See, why can't any of the Dodgers look like the nice clean-shaven Phillies? Utley, Howard, Burrell, Rollins...and Victorino and Werth's carefully groomed facial hair too. The Dodgers hew to the modern "hippie" look of total slovenlity, except for their Oriental who no doubt could not grow a beard if he tried.
   66. JJ1986 Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:58 PM (#2980102)
See, why can't any of the Dodgers look like the nice clean-shaven Phillies?

I think everyone in the Phillies bullpen, except for Madson, has a goatee. Lidge, Eyre, Romero, Condrey, Durbin.

5-1. Tell your friends.
   68. Lassus Posted: October 12, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2980105)
Nooooo Hiroki. Why are you letting them back in the game?

The dominican who hacks at slop nightly contributes.
   70. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 12, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2980107)
"Letting them back in the game"? It's the second inning!

I knew signing Pedro Feliz was the right move.

I do have to hand it to FOX giving each team a theme song to play after they score.

LA Dodgers- I Love LA
Philly- Gonna Fly Now

I'm trying to figure out what they will play in the WS for the AL team. I mean, "Tessie" is a no-brainer for BOston. But what about Tampa?

   76. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 12, 2008 at 09:07 PM (#2980114)
I guess the dream scenario of having Moyer bat against Maddux is not going to happen.
