Stuff I want to see Tonight:

Manny goes yard

Dodgers live to play another day (because I want MORE BASEBALL!)

Mix-up in audio wiring allows Game to be broadcast by Vin Scully. When FOX tries to fix it, they mess up and put on Harry Kalas. They rotate between the two the entire game.

Greg Maddux

Matt Stairs

Some Chin Music

David Boreanaz, our first non-baseball celebrity of the night!

..Is anyone here?

ANYONE AT ALL! HELLLO!

The team to beat! How about J Roll....

Rollins goes deep. And I'm all aloooooooooooone.

..Is anyone here?

No.

I wanted the Phillies to win this series, but I'd like to see it go to at least 6 games.
   7. frannyzoo Posted: October 15, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2983229)
Matt Stairs is the sole reason for not rooting Rays at this point. Dude has been denied so long, he'll never NEVER make HOF unless this is his year to win the WS. Matt Stairs, Cooperstown teeters before you!

P.S.: No, I don't remember if Stairs was ever on a "championship" team. When they get to 18 teams over 15 years I just get confused.
   8. will Posted: October 15, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2983230)
We might see Greg Maddux tonight !
   9. Gamingboy Posted: October 15, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2983231)
Maybe, in the spirit of the Dodger fans, people will arrive late. I mean, Jesus people, so your favorite team isn't playing, but it's still the NL bleeping Championship Series! If it is this slow during the WS, it'll be proof that far too many people are Red Sox (or whatever your fandom is) Fans First, Baseball Fans second. And yes, that is an insult.

I got to say, it is nice that Iphone used non-big market teams for their commercial.

There are still an unusually high number of empty seats in that Stadium.

Did Depo give J.D. the opt out because of Ethier or not
just wondering
it was Colletti's umbrage not Depodesta's
   22. JJ1986 Posted: October 15, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2983256)
They only acquired Ethier after Drew had been there for a year.
   23. Lassus Posted: October 15, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2983258)
OH, whoops, I think that's not the commercial you were talking about, Gamingboy. I, er, don't have the commercials for my game. Long story. It was the TBS iPhone game commercial I'm talking about.
   24. will Posted: October 15, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2983260)
I don't understand Lassus' annoyance at #19.....that is pretty much the only way Jose can get his name mentioned on Fox in October.....
   25. Gamingboy Posted: October 15, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2983261)
Casey Blake's beard is a good beard.
   26. frannyzoo Posted: October 15, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2983262)
Will: I think that's exactly the reason Lassus spitted out the expletive-laced tirade you see above. Sorry if that was sarcasm and I missed it.

Mets suck, sun rises in East, news at Eleven.
   27. Lassus Posted: October 15, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2983263)
Eh, will, we hear that crap all year. Reyes is about 1,000 less grumpy to watch play than Rollins, and all he does is get crap for it. Not that I would expect anything better from FOX. I will admit as a Mets fan I'm biased against the Phillies. Don't fall over from shock. ;-)
   28. frannyzoo Posted: October 15, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2983264)
Casey Blake's beard is a good solid 70's I'm a tenured professor or thoughtful, cerebral pornstar beard.

Lassus, I took that to be teammates razzing Victorino, sorta "You're the one calling out Reyes for celebrating?"

   32. Lassus Posted: October 15, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2983268)
Hmmmm... I see what you are saying, Bad Doctor. That's not how the snidely Robothal called it, however. FOX sucks. Way more than the Mets.
   33. The Drizz1e Posted: October 15, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2983271)
In the midst of that shocking report by Robothal, this game is still happening.
   34. Dan Posted: October 15, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2983274)
And that's what happens when you play a third baseman at second.
   35. JJ1986 Posted: October 15, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2983275)
He didn't have to take the outside corner. DeWitt didn't try and block the bag at all.

Torre not messing around tonight....
   43. frannyzoo Posted: October 15, 2008 at 09:18 PM (#2983286)
Well it's the WS we all wanted: Phillies v. Rays. Predictable I know, but the current salary structure is so screwed up it's a foregone conclusion every year at this point. And don't we all want an East Coast WS at this point? As a New Mexican, I know I do.
   44. Dan Posted: October 15, 2008 at 09:22 PM (#2983287)
Well, the WS I really wanted was Phillies vs. Red Sox, but Phillies vs. Rays would have been my second choice, I think. So I'm okay with it.

Hamels should probably win the Gold Glove. If it was awarded on, you know, merit.

Was that pitch so low it didn't even show up on "Pitch Trax"? What a terrible strike call.
   50. will Posted: October 15, 2008 at 09:35 PM (#2983297)
The 3rd strike against Hamels didn't even show up on "Fox Track" because it was so low.....he had the good sense not to argue...
   51. frannyzoo Posted: October 15, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2983299)
I guess we're watching the last pitches by a HOFer who I have enjoyed perhaps more than any other the last 15 years or so (and I hate the Braves). Thank you Mr. Maddux. Thank you.

" Yesterday when we were young"...when McCarver makes a reference to popular culture, it only makes sense if you are over 65. It is so past time for him to retire.....

That's little league quality defense there.

Man,,,I thought DeWitt was going to hit another triple there.
   71. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:10 PM (#2983335)
I don't think I've ever been as certain of anything in my life as I was that Dewitt would GIDP there.
   72. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:10 PM (#2983336)
Kent has only 39 pinch-hit at-bats in his whole career? Wow.
   73. Snowboy Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:10 PM (#2983337)
Torre "Take a seat, DeWitt, you're done for the night."
   74. Snowboy Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:13 PM (#2983338)
Torre (to himself) "I mean, if I had any alternatives, he'd be done, argggh."
   75. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:15 PM (#2983340)
No, Kent's in at 2nd.

What was that I saw a couple innings ago...oh yeah, Pablo Ozuna! Was that the first time he stepped onto the field in this whole series? I didn't know he was on the roster.
   76. A Dying Soul Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:17 PM (#2983341)
why didnt he pinch hit for DeWitt with Kent? or just start Kent.
   77. Snowboy Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2983342)
Based on DeWitt's reaction in the dugout when Torre spoke to him, knew he'd been told he was out. Torre has to push all in, and he'll use/grasp at anybody.
   78. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2983343)
Yeah he could have started Kent, and then pinch hit with Pablo Ozuna. Or vice versa. But really all three of those guys are not good options.
   79. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:19 PM (#2983344)
On the other hand, maybe Pablo Ozuna can't play second.

I like saying "Pablo Ozuna". Going to do it a lot now that I finally am aware he's on the Dodgers.

Furcal looks quite emotional at the plate right now.

Don't get distracted, Hamels
   82. Dan Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2983348)
Ozuna was used as a defensive replacement in game 4 at second base. And then had to bat after the Dodgers were losing.
   83. JJ1986 Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2983349)
It's very odd that Ozuna is on the playoff roster considering he can't hit and can only play 2nd where they have DeWitt, Kent and Berroa ahead of him. Maybe everyone else who played for them this year got injured.
   84. Snowboy Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2983351)
Furcal didn't run out that grounder. He's empty.

Trivia: Who is older, Jeff Kent or Pablo Ozuna? Haha
   85. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:24 PM (#2983352)
I never thought they would have both Berroa and Ozuna on the roster at the same time, that's what surprised me.

Wouldn't Chin-Lung Eye Knee Arm be a better option?
   86. will Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:25 PM (#2983353)
Pablo Ozuna....the Dodgers' version of So Taguchi......

First.

   88. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2983355)
They should have started the game with Manny on the bench and then had him pinch hit for DeWitt.
   89. will Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2983356)
Ruiz should forget that "going up the ladder" fastball with Hamels, since Cole doesn't get it high enough.....
   90. JJ1986 Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2983357)
They have some guy named Xavier Paul on the 40-man roster who's left handed and hit .316 at Jacksonville this year. He'd probably be better than Pablo Ozuna. They also have Delwyn Young and Mark Sweeney who both had terrible years but still...
   91. Dan Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2983360)
What is Martin ######## about? That was clearly a strike.
   92. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2983361)
Is Delwyn Young really not related to Delmon and Dimitri?
   93. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:31 PM (#2983363)

   96. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2983366)
I was going to say that Mark Sweeney could have been on the roster and been a good PH option. I know he's healthy, but now I also know he was 12-for-92 this year.
