The Rangers pitching staff is totally Jeckel and Hyde, starters and 'pen: 6.54/3.59 ERA's.

Yankees get shutout 7-0 today--puts me a in a good mood for the night game. Maybe the Sox will score some runs tonight for a change?

Ellsbury has been called up and Pineiro DL'ed.

Look for Joe Bivens and niece of Joe Bivens tonight sitting in section 26 of the grandstands. She'll have a sill little sign, and I will be wearing a red shirt. YEAH FREE TICKETS!!!!
   5. Joe Bivens, Lightning Rod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:47 PM (#2424075)
Silly. A silly sign.
   6. PJ Martinez Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:58 PM (#2424100)
And Ellsbury is starting and batting 9th. And I imagine that's not just for tonight, either. Probably the case until Coco heals, which I assume must be at least a few days away for them to make this move.

Same here. Did you notice that Jason Kendall homered off Igawa? That's just-give-up-now material. Jason Kendall. hee hee

Crossposting from ST, here's Ellsbury's combined MLE for the season: 292/357/387, 24 SB, 7 CS

Lineups:

oston:

2B-Dustin Pedroia
1B Kevin Youklis
DH-David Ortiz
LF Manny Ramirez
RF J.D. Drew
3B Mike Lowell
C Jason Varitek
SS Alex Cora
CF Jacoby Ellsbury
SP Josh Beckett

Texas:
CF Kenny Lofton
2B Jerry Hairston
SS Michael Young
DH Sammy Sosa
LF Frank Catalanotto
RF Marlon Byrd
C Gerald Laird
3B Ramon Vazquez
SP Robinson Tejeda

Along with the lineups, Cafardo reports at the Extra Bases blog that Matt Clement is rehabbing:
Matt Clement, who underwent major shoulder surgery last summer, threw in the bullpen at about 70 percent according to manager Terry Francona, which was pretty impressive.
Actually, more from that report, he's got fun stuff:
I asked one Sox executive who's faster, Ellsbury or Crisp? evidently it's pretty close. I was told that Double-A pitching prospect Clay Buchholz is faster than both of them.
See? Fun.
   10. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 06:50 PM (#2424345)
Jason Kendall. hee hee

It was a seriously cheesy HR, right down the LF line, almost a wall-skimmer type.

Same here. Did you notice that Jason Kendall homered off Igawa? That's just-give-up-now material. Jason Kendall. hee hee

And then Shannon Stewart, who hits about 10 HR a year, made it back-to-back.

It was a seriously cheesy HR, right down the LF line, almost a wall-skimmer type.

Well, how else do you expect Kendall to hit one?

In regards to the "must-win game" debate - which I think is more a chatter than a therapy debate - I don't think this is must-win, because I don't think there can be a must-win game in the Red Sox situation, 10 games up at midseason. It's a game that would be wildly frustrating to lose, but the Red Sox are not the sort of team that would let one loss send them into a tailspin or something, and that's the only way I can see a game in this situation being "must-win."
   13. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:03 PM (#2424366)
Remy says that Ellsbury was called up because "Coco's thumb was a little worse than expected" whatever the crap that means.
   14. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:05 PM (#2424369)
I just turned it on. I assume the guy singing the anthem has some sort of mental handicap?

WTF is this?

CF Jacoby Ellsbury

Giddy Up!!!!
   17. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:07 PM (#2424372)
Jacoby is kind of shrimpy, no?
   18. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:08 PM (#2424373)
Lugo sits also I see.

I have the world greatest hangover
   20. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:10 PM (#2424376)
So nasty! That's as good a fastball as I've seen from Beckett.
   21. Chip Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:11 PM (#2424378)
NESN gun has Beckett hitting 97 MPH here.

Remy noted it was the 2-seamer, which he barely threw in the past.

Explain.

Evening, floks.

Pumped Ellsbury's in the lineup?
   25. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:13 PM (#2424382)
Beckett hitting the glove in the 1st...
   26. kevin Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:13 PM (#2424383)
That's "folks", before anyone stats asking for my head.

Yes and no. Coco was coming on pretty good...
   29. kevin Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:15 PM (#2424386)
I likely the Ellsbury Pedroia Youks sequence. That's going to be tough to pitch to without allowing baserunners.
   30. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:15 PM (#2424387)
Somebody put LSD in his Molsen.

Saturday

Watched what I am calling our ' worst win of the year' then ran into major stock take issues that were not resolved till 10 pm local time. Had about a dozen beers and a truckload of Pampero before 4am. Took a sleeping tablet and woke up to see Jacoby is called up.

Awesome
   32. Chip Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:17 PM (#2424389)
It would be nice to see more than two decent ABs tonight on offense, which is all we got last night.

There's one.
   35. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:18 PM (#2424394)
Yeah, a leadoff runner--.402 OBP now.

Take a few in a row, Youks.

Connors: "Don't be nervous. Throw strikes."

Tejada: "Go away."
   38. Chip Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:21 PM (#2424399)
It's definitely not good when you've got a 9.00+ ERA over your last 7 starts, and your pitching coach is already making a visit after only the second batter you've faced.
   39. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:22 PM (#2424400)
They really must score some runs here

Might wanna avoid the pills and the booze?

Highly stressfull life. I'm fine
   40. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:22 PM (#2424402)

   44. Chip Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:24 PM (#2424406)
Tek as a pinch hitter Phil.
   45. kevin Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:24 PM (#2424407)
I hope this is one of those "11 runs" nights.
   46. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:24 PM (#2424408)
No way the 1-0 to Manny was a strike, not even close.

Chad Gaudin!!!!

Just saw the score
   51. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:26 PM (#2424414)
Manny got screwed by that bad strike call. He wouldn't have had to chase that pitch.

Anybody drinking ?

Last night I was.

The Yankees are ######. Even Kay admits it now.

I'm wondering if is going to call them "unprofessional" at some point?

Smell the RBI's Mikey boy.
   55. kevin Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:28 PM (#2424419)
Thanks for putting another baserunner on with only 1 out.

Nah, at work now
   57. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:28 PM (#2424421)
2-0 with the sacks loaded is good.
   58. kevin Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:28 PM (#2424422)
Now, with his control struggling, he has no place to put anybody.

April/May Lowell ihts that one out.

Not sure what Varitek is doing on that first pitch.

Hope you mailordered it from Phil, Chip.

He hit homers on June 19 and June 20.
   66. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:31 PM (#2424430)
Horrible at-bat from Varitek. Just 2 runs there feels like a major squander.

Good vintage. How was the wine?
   68. kevin Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:32 PM (#2424432)
Well, at least Ellsbury might come up with baserunners next inning.
   69. kevin Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:33 PM (#2424433)
Phil, what's your favorite Aussie Red?
   70. Curse of the Graffanino (dfan) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:34 PM (#2424435)
Ellsbury!!
   71. Chip Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:35 PM (#2424436)
Tasty. Nice depth.

Between that and the New Zealand whites, I've found some very good stuff at Costco lately. I can't get enough of the Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc.

There's the first of Catalanotto's 12 hits over the next three days.
   72. Nick Warino Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:35 PM (#2424437)
Jacoby is a pretty good looking guy.

And of course Catalanotto gets a hit.
   73. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:36 PM (#2424439)
FWIW, Remy really warming up to Dusty.
   74. Chip Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:37 PM (#2424440)
Gives up a baserunner, and still only has a 7-pitch inning.
   75. kevin Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:39 PM (#2424442)
18 pitches, 15 strikes for Beckett. 1 baserunner

When you see stuff like that, it means the hitters can't catch up to his stuff.
   76. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:39 PM (#2424444)
Somebody else mentioned it, but those KFC bowls are beyond disgusting, no? Hey, what kind of wine goes with one of those babies?
   77. Nick Warino Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:39 PM (#2424443)
FYI...

Catalanotto has a career .314/.375/.514 line with 11 HR against the Red Sox in his career. His OPS is 18% better against the Sox than everyone else. In contrast, his OPS is 18% WORST against the Yankees than everyone else.

Damn him.
   78. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:39 PM (#2424445)
I don't really understand what Beckett's done to increase his groundball rate, but it's working, and I like it.
   79. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:40 PM (#2424449)
Good little ballplayer, that guy.

RBI chance for the rookie here.
   80. Nick Warino Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:40 PM (#2424450)

   85. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:41 PM (#2424456)
Not only are the bowls obviously disgusting, but everyone in that ad needs a good cockpunching.

not your best, Jacoby, did it hit the platE?
   86. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:41 PM (#2424457)
Well, that was not the optimal way to start a major league career.
   87. Curse of the Graffanino (dfan) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:41 PM (#2424458)
Well, that's a pretty sad first-ever major league at bat.
   88. Chip Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:41 PM (#2424459)
That might be the worst first MLB AB in history.
