Thank goodness for the White Sox last night. I hope Jones performance was him getting it out of his system. Okay, that is probably not realistic, but it is the best I can do right now.

OK guys, all you have to do is beat KC one time.

The Sox filleted the Twins for you Detroit.

let's go Tigers clap, clap, clap clap clap, let's go Tigers

You better keep John L. Smith away from Comerica just for good measure.....loooooser.

Rain...grrr. Let's get this game in tonight; I don't want to have to burn through our pitching staff playing a DH tomorrow. Who's gonna pitch? Morris? Fidrych? McLain? Newhauser? Hooks Dauss?

Double, single, triple. Yeah, that's a great way to start, Zach. More rain!

Home run. Royals hit for the cycle in the first four batters.

Wow! Losing two games to the Royals is a monumental achievement. But the White Sox are doing the Tigers' job for them, meaning that a win tomorrow would get them the title by virtue of the tiebreaker. I wonder if they really can manage to be swept by KC with all the chips down.

Tonight's game isn't over yet - it's barely starting. And with the Royals' pitching staff, four runs is probably not close to being enough.

That's why they got three more.

Do they want to face the Yankees in the first round?

Although seven might be.

Make that seven. And they're still batting. What's the weather in Detroit? Anymore big rain clouds coming?

This is beyond ridiculous. Guess we'll hope for the White Sox to sweep...

And now it's 8-6 KC in the 7th.

It would be funny as hell if the Tigers actually came back and won this game. Three years ago in their next-to-last game, they came back from a 8-0 decifit to beat the Twins. That, and the come-from-behind win the next day (which I witnessed) prevented them from losing 120 games.

At least they didn't give up. Go get 'em, Tigers!

Well, the offense is doing its best to win and the pitching is doing its best to lose. That's at least a reversal of what went on in August.

Chad Durbin! Another Royals pitching flameout.

Who is th man chiefed by the Royals to pitch the ninth? I'm hesitant to call him a "closer" but last I checked it was Burgos and he appears to have started this game so I guess he's out
   17. Vrhovnik Posted: September 30, 2006 at 11:48 PM (#2193023)
Joe Nelson is the nominal closer. But it could just as easily be Peralta tonight.

Jimmy Gobble apparently. I don't know if there are two players with the same exact job--not just in the same position, but the same exact job--than Jimmy Gobble and, say, Mariano Rivera
   19. RB in NYC (Now with Jet Lag!) Posted: September 30, 2006 at 11:54 PM (#2193028)
Ah, that makes no sense. That's two more different players with the exact same job

In their own way, this August and September have been as embarasing as 2003.
   21. Vrhovnik Posted: October 01, 2006 at 12:04 AM (#2193046)
I didn't expect to see Gobble in the ninth. But it worked out.
   22. no neck Posted: October 01, 2006 at 12:52 AM (#2193106)
inconceivable.
