Maddux! AHH! Not really, I remember the Cards hitting the Padres-version Mad Dog pretty well.
   2. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 07:57 PM (#2864229)
I really like this lineup, except that Izturis is in it. Sadly, the optimum configuration right now is SS - Ryan, 2B - Miles. This pains me to type. Otherwise, this is the best RHP lineup the Cards have.
   3. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2864271)
Two hitters, two line drives. That does not bode well for Looper...
   4. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2864272)
3 for 3, this one at least was at somebody.
   5. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2864279)
Looper gets a little lucky and gets out of it. Looks like we'll need some runs tonight, boys.
   6. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2864287)
Skip could have swung at better pitches there.
   7. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2864297)
Albert punches another good pitch through the hole. Glaus strokes one into the gap. Ankiel time!
   8. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:32 PM (#2864300)
And the Natural delivers, two runs in. Good start!
   9. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2864311)
Khalil HRs. Evidently the Padres fans really, really hate him. Looking at his year, I can kind of see why.
   10. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2864324)
Holy ####, Izturis takes a BB!!! First, I believe, since MAY.
   11. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2864325)
MAY!!!
   12. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2864331)
And then Izturis steals 3d. This is the most offense he's had since, um, MAY.

Ryan hits a GB, run scores. Al is going nuts about manufacturing runs. It was a hitless run, not a ton of those.
   13. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2864356)
Looper is falling apart on the mound, and Dan is talking, uninterrupted, with Lou Brock. Now sure, Lou is a HOFer, but come on, at least pretend that you're watching the game.
   14. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:04 PM (#2864374)
Ludwick on ahead of Albert. HR time!
   15. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2864380)
Wait, now Dan and Al are debating Albert's HOF chances?

Albert gets a hit.

Albert, I would deign to say, has had a more valuable career than Lou Brock. That is, 8 years of Albert is better than all of Brock. And I am a huge Brock fan. I could be crazy.
   16. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2864390)
Career RC:

Albert - 1124
Brock - 1512.

Ok, I'm wrong. But, RC/G:

Albert - 9.7
Brock - 5.2

So I won't be wrong for much longer, maybe two seasons. 10 years of Albert is better than 19 of Brock.
   17. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2864401)
Looper...getting....bombed....can't....take....more....lousy....pitching....save...me...Adam.....or...Chris...
   18. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:17 PM (#2864405)
So that was the worst defensive sequence I have seen in at least 2 years. Wow. Just outstandingly bad. ####### Christ.
   19. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2864413)
WHAT THE #### WHY DID PEREZ GET SENT DOWN TO BRING UP KELVIN ####### JIMENEZ ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH THAT IS ####### STUPID!!!!!

This is proving to be a frustrating game.
   20. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:39 PM (#2864443)
So I leave for 5 minutes to get Chinese, and they tie it up. Mad Dog is also having shitty game.

Nice catch by Gerut.
   21. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:51 PM (#2864460)
I may be mishearing things, but I think Al just used the fact that pitchers pitch Ankiel offspeed, low and away, to explain how much better pitchers were in his day. Or, maybe, because he can't hit offspeed OR low and away? Just to toss that out there.
   22. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 10:01 PM (#2864469)
####### Villone is on to throw gas on the fire. It could be worse - Flores is active now.
   23. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2864475)
I guess that's one way to turn a DP.
   24. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 10:15 PM (#2864488)
Dan and Al have decided to really lay into Ryan this game. He is the least of the problems in the MI.
   25. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2864504)
This dude wanted no part of Albert. Glaus, though, is much hotter right now....
   26. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 10:30 PM (#2864521)
Players audibly yelling "####!" after they strike out is one of my favorite baseball telecast things. I think the all-decade leader here is Jim Edmonds, who had many opportunities.
   27. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2864530)
So far, the bullpen has not been a disaster. So there's that.
   28. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 10:37 PM (#2864540)
Cubs lose! Cubs lose!

This has become a must-win.
   29. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 10:40 PM (#2864545)
Holy ####, that was an AMAZING AB from the Natural. Just outstanding. Against a LHP, fouling off balls, getting the full count, getting a mistake he can drive....just outstanding. I think he can make it in this league.
   30. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 10:43 PM (#2864553)
Hit, BB, 2 SB for Izturis - his best game in a while.
   31. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 11:00 PM (#2864577)
Molina's D makes a resurgence, and he throws out Gerut.

Big bats coming up, need a run. More would be nice.
   32. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2864584)
Heath Bell throws 95. Albert is unimpressed.
   33. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 11:08 PM (#2864586)
He pitches Pujols aggressively, and then wanted no piece of Glaus. Don't see that too often.
   34. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 11:10 PM (#2864587)
That was the most mysterious infield hit I have seen this year - a ball hit right to the 2d baseman, when he doesn't make an error, usually results in an out. But not that time.
   35. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2864590)
I don't really believe in clutch hitting, but if I did, I would believe that Yadi is ####### clutch.
   36. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 11:15 PM (#2864592)
Rick, you should have slid.
   37. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 11:17 PM (#2864595)
Even Duncan is getting hits! I love the Padres!
   38. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 11:21 PM (#2864600)
I gotta admit, I was pretty down on this game early, but it's turned into a rout. The Padres suck. I mean, they are bad. At baseball.
   39. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 11:24 PM (#2864602)
Ludwick saw 6 pitches that inning, and had 2 Ks.
   40. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 11:29 PM (#2864605)
Even Izzy can't blow a 4 run lead, right?

I joke - of course he can!
   41. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 11:35 PM (#2864613)
Yikes, that was a nasty curve from Izzy.

That was like the Izzy of old, on the positive side. He even walked someone! Just like old times...
   42. Guts Posted: July 18, 2008 at 11:36 PM (#2864615)
Well, whatever, a win is a win, even in that weird game. 12 over.
   43. cardsfanboy Posted: July 19, 2008 at 12:52 AM (#2864664)
sorry missed the game, but good final results.
