How many Pirate fans do we have around here?
   2. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 07:03 PM (#2756195)
I will state that today is the first day of the season or the past 7 seasons that I will take the Reds seriously, and yes I know they had a couple of seasons where they were competitive but even in those seasons I didn't take them serious, I knew the makeup of their team and they were destined to fail, now it's a brand new day.

Still they have crappy owners poor fans and an 'interesting' manager so it's possible that even the great Jocketty won't be able to overcome the distractions.
   3. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 07:18 PM (#2756219)
Ryan back on the roster, Schumaker with a leadoff single, I'm bar-b-queing so I didn't see the lineups is Ludwick playing? Guess not if Ankiel is playing
   4. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 07:19 PM (#2756222)
Cardinal announcers are talking about Steve Blass working for the Pirates and him rooting for Ankiel.
   5. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 07:20 PM (#2756226)
41-17 at PNC park in it's existence.. Albert has 20 homeruns and a .379 average. 20 hrs in 58 games, a pretty good pace.

and of course Albert gets a single
   6. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 07:23 PM (#2756230)
Cardinals(Duncan) just drew the league leading 104th walk of the season. Drawback about all these walks is that we are pretty high among LOB in the league (although if Ludwick played more that wouldn't be the case)
   7. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 07:24 PM (#2756232)
Glaus with his 10th double of the season with bases loaded, only 2 runs scored though.
   8. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 07:35 PM (#2756249)
good start to the game, 4-0 after half an inning, now Wellemeyer needs to make this a statement game and not pitch like Brewer pitchers and nibble with a lead.
   9. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 07:36 PM (#2756255)
Duncan makes the catch....looks ugly doing it as usual, but as usual contrary to what people who watched him play only in the playoffs, he makes the catch that he can get to.
   10. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 07:44 PM (#2756266)
damn that was quick, I went to check on the fire and I come back and it's three outs for us after Schumaker had gotten a hit.
   11. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2756320)
phrebird is online, and confidence is high!
   12. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2756340)
what about phredbird?
   13. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2756341)
I'm bar-b-queing right now so in and out between the game.
   14. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2756344)
cfb, i am here.
   15. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2756350)
oh great.
   16. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2756351)
I think that throw convince the Pirates to never run on Ankiel.
   17. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2756354)
I was asking if you were as high as your confidence :)
   18. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2756360)
oh. duh.
   19. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2756365)
what a bunch of crap. of course he swung.
   20. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2756366)
this trend allowing the opposing team to get back in the game has got to stop.
   21. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2756380)
whew!!!
   22. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2756384)
Bobo Gibson, Smoltz and Johnson.

damn they gave the answer too quick. I had it too.
   23. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2756390)
that must be on some other telecast. mlb.tv has the fsn feed, and the announcers sound like the pittsburgh guys.
   24. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2756396)
Name the only three pitchers to record more than 3000 strikeouts with all of them being for one team.
   25. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2756398)
ah.
   26. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2756412)
they listed the question and I immediately knew Gibby (easy one of course) and Smoltz was of course right in my head and I had to quickly think through among the remaining, and I wasn't sure about Johnson but that was who I was in middle of typing when they put up the answers. They need to go back to doing the aflac question over a half inning.
   27. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2756416)
Ok, now they are being apolgetic about Ankiels path, I think they think the more times they say "he takes a good path" the more likely it may become true. Ankiel does not take a good path to the ball he is below average at that skill..

####.!!!!
   28. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2756421)
aw crud.
   29. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2756425)
i don't think i can watch another game like yesterday's.
   30. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2756429)
I want our bullpen to prove itself but it's already spread paper thin (Thompson went down today)
   31. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2756433)
that's it for me; i'm at work, and it's time to bail. go cards!!!
   32. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2756445)
have fun bar-b-que is almost done :)
   33. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2756455)
Miles taking advantage of the wild pitch.... you still have to pitch to ankiel with Pujols on deck.
   34. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2756457)
great call by the ump, it's tough not to call that a strike in that situation, with that pitch. I think the ump was right but man it's tough not to ring him up right there.
   35. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:04 PM (#2756463)
Ok, here. What's going on?
   36. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2756466)
two men on, two outs, Pujols up to bat full count, tied game 4-4.
   37. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2756467)
Albert almost had that pitch....too bad.
   38. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2756470)
I guess Wellemeyer did not maintain his excellence in this start?
   39. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2756472)
####!!!! Albert can't you do anything right...(sound like the typical bandwagoner fan from last year that kept claiming Albert wasn't clutch)
   40. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2756481)
If clutch exists, Albert is clutch.
   41. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:09 PM (#2756487)
He started out pretty good, hit a rough patch where they hit him pretty hard resulting in two runs, then he allowed a 2 run homerun to bay that a slightly above average left fielder may have caught although the ball was drifting funny.
   42. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2756494)
Al was arguing that with Wellemeyers build he should be allowed to pitch 110-115 pitches. (for the record I don't disagree, except the fact that he is a converted reliever)
   43. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2756497)
Not too bad then, but not up to the 2008 Cardinals rotation standards. Oh well.

At least the lineup is ok; I see that was Albert's first out made today.
   44. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:12 PM (#2756500)
Why not? Welle's a big dude, and it's not like he's young. AND he's been a starter for almost a year now.
   45. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:15 PM (#2756504)
The primary reason why not is because Al suggested it :)
   46. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2756512)
Hm - good point.
   47. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:18 PM (#2756516)
####, nice catch by Xman.
   48. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2756522)
Have they said anything about Izturis - is he being DLed?
   49. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:25 PM (#2756532)
yes they have said something, no he isn't being dl'ed, he had x-rays and came back negative.

Griffey just hit hr 597.
   50. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2756534)
Is McLouth's streak on the line? Or did he already break it?
   51. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2756535)
Hopefully it will be a lingering pain and he'll go back to a specialist and the specialist will say you need season ending surgery. Yes I'm evil.
   52. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2756538)
Too bad; I guess I can live with him a little while longer. But I won't like it.
   53. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:27 PM (#2756541)
He should consult with Dr. James Andrews immediately.
   54. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:27 PM (#2756543)
I don't know didn't know he had a streak(it's the Pirates I don't pay attention) I've been bar-b-queing so haven't seen every play.

I think he got a hit but I don't know for sure. (there was a time in the game where the heart of the order had 4 consecutive hits)
   55. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:28 PM (#2756545)
I'll pretend to be Dr James Andrews if necessary.
   56. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:28 PM (#2756547)
McLouth is 0-4 tonight; he had a 16 game hitting streak earlier this week.
   57. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:30 PM (#2756553)
Ok, it ended as a 19 game streak last night. That was his first game tihs year without a hit.
   58. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:33 PM (#2756561)
god dang it.
   59. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:34 PM (#2756564)
I realize Wagonmaker has been hitting well, but why him and not, oh, Barton? Or Ryan? Come on, Tony.

And nice ####### steal, Kennedy.
   60. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2756569)
If you had hit Ryan there, perfect double switch by removing Miles....
   61. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2756571)
it wasn't supposed to be a steal, it was supposed to be a sac that the pitch was too high for the batter to handle.
   62. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:37 PM (#2756575)
Whatever. It was stupid.
   63. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:38 PM (#2756581)
Whoa, Reyes? This isn't a blowout.
   64. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:40 PM (#2756591)
whats wrong with Reyes?
   65. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:41 PM (#2756599)
great freaking throw reyes....miles isn't that short and kennedy could have flipped it to miles for the lead runner.
   66. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:42 PM (#2756601)
Nothing - I love Reyes. But TLR hates him and uses him as infrequently as possible, so it's a little surprising to see him here and not Franklin or someone. I guess Thompson is down; Springer is back, right?
   67. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:45 PM (#2756615)
Thompson went down to get Brendan Ryan on the roster. Springer came up when they sent Rico down.
   68. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:46 PM (#2756621)
I really wish Mozelik(sp) would make a statement by trading Duncan and Reyes to an American league team for something. :)
   69. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:47 PM (#2756624)
damn.
   70. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:49 PM (#2756634)
Yeah, like a SS under 27. Who can hit a little. That would be great.
   71. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:50 PM (#2756636)
Reyes not helping his case here. However, I feel confident that clutch god Albert Pujols will do something.
   72. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:52 PM (#2756642)
We have Brendan Ryan.

Yep Reyes isn't helping himself here, but he's been pretty solid so far this season.
   73. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:52 PM (#2756645)
Mientkiewitz(sp.)? Really? The Bucs have cornered a certain market, for sure.
   74. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2756646)
damn reyes allowed mientki#$@!%#$2 to drive in two.
   75. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2756650)
Ok, a SS under 27 who can hit a lot.
   76. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:54 PM (#2756658)
??? anybody in mind?
   77. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:54 PM (#2756659)
Mienty wasn't too happy about that call. Though I wasn't too happy about giving up 3 ####### runs there.
   78. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:55 PM (#2756667)
No. I've heard Lillibridge's name a lot, but 1. he's in the NL and 2. he's not worth Reyes and Duncan.

Let me look around.
   79. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2756674)
How about this guy?
   80. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2756676)
game over. what a crappy ending,
   81. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2756677)
Well, ####. What a terrible game.
   82. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 10:01 PM (#2756682)
sounds good to me. (I was looking at kinsler but he's second base)
   83. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2756684)
I'm not sure the Rays would want Reyes, but they just picked up and released Dan Johnson, who is a lesser Duncan-type, so they may want him.
   84. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2756685)
well at least the game ended in time to watch south park.
   85. Guts Posted: April 23, 2008 at 10:03 PM (#2756687)
A silver lining to every cloud, I guess. Hasta manana....
   86. cardsfanboy Posted: April 23, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2756692)
