Lineups not on Yahoo yet, but I'm assuming that Ludwick will be batting fourth, and until the Cardinals figure out he is the only protection for Pujols and play him everyday we are going to keep reading articles about how Pujols is walking way too much.

pujols OBP is .500
   9. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:12 PM (#2758037)
another walk to Pujols, who woulda thunk it. Now it's up to Ludwick to prove you must pay if you walk Albert.
   10. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:13 PM (#2758039)
how in the heck do you get picked off of second with the cleanup hitter up to bat?
   11. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:13 PM (#2758040)
cmon, ryan, i'm on cfb's bandwagon here ...
   12. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:14 PM (#2758041)
oh fnuk. cfb, i'm way behind you again. i saw your post and then i saw the play.
   13. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:15 PM (#2758043)
shiznit!!!!
   14. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:17 PM (#2758045)
sorry about that.
   15. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:18 PM (#2758046)
Pineiro has looked like #### this year, but the Pirates are pretty punchless. Did Pujols get picked off again?
   16. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:18 PM (#2758047)
I'll wait 40 seconds to post :)
   17. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:18 PM (#2758048)
not Pujols, Barton got picked off with two men on, and one out with the cleanup hitter(Ludwick) up to bat.
   18. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:19 PM (#2758049)
Pinero recorded his first k of the season, I think.

I also like his pacing, he just is ready to go.
   19. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:20 PM (#2758050)
don't worry about that stuff, cfb. i'm going to lay off the refresh button. trouble is, mlb.tv keeps pausing. it really sucks today.
   20. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:23 PM (#2758054)
Pinero stuff does seem to have some good movement.
   21. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:31 PM (#2758062)
Pineiro looked OK for the first couple of innings on Saturday too, and that turned out - well, not badly, but not great.

I LOVE that Ryan's in the lineup.
   22. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:32 PM (#2758063)
i guess miles just wants to force the bucs to go to the bullpen.

3. HighandOutside Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:05 PM (#2758027)

Whoa, a Bucs fan? In Chatter?
   24. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:34 PM (#2758065)
Nice play by Ryan!
   25. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:35 PM (#2758067)
I still think Pinero could rise in value for this team. I think he will probably be better over the course of the season than Looper or Wellemeyer (although Wellemeyer constantly surprises me)
   26. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:37 PM (#2758070)
Well, Pineiro is a legitimate starting pitcher when he's throwing well, which probably is a strech for Looper or Welle. 2 Ks tonight are his first two on the year, so he's trending up right now.
   27. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:40 PM (#2758074)
I was on the fence for us to sign him before he signed with Boston, and I still think Boston was stupid for dumping like they did.

I love the Pirates not having Jack Wilson in the field.
   28. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:42 PM (#2758076)
Ryan knows how to wear a uniform. (yes I'm serious, when I was a kid I wanted t where my baseball socks to school, they are the cool)
   29. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:42 PM (#2758077)
they aren't scoring that a hit?
   30. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:43 PM (#2758078)
Ok our announcing team is talking about catching crab in the winter (not sexual but the tv show worlds deadliest catch)

damn.
   31. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:43 PM (#2758079)
agree on socks. i think there needs to be a rule to make players pull up the pants bottoms.
   32. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:44 PM (#2758080)
they aren't scoring that a hit?

nope an error, not sure I completly agree with that call since it would have been pretty close if he makes the transfer anyway, or if he would have layed back on the ball he wouldn't have gotten him out and they would have called it a base hit. The only reason it's an error is because he made a decent play on the charge.
   33. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:48 PM (#2758081)
ok, it's bad, I'm doing the Cub fan thing and actually looking at the standings in April. Please shoot me.
   34. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:50 PM (#2758085)
Still solid inning of pitching by Pinero, this game is going pretty fast.
   35. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:55 PM (#2758088)
even with a man on base they refuse topitch to Albert.
   36. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:55 PM (#2758089)
Now it's up to Ludwick to pay back (I think the Barton pick of disrupted him last time)
   37. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 07:58 PM (#2758094)
this pitcher wants to make sure the Cardinals lead the league in walks for the season.
   38. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:01 PM (#2758095)
cripes!!!!
   39. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:01 PM (#2758096)
another couple left stranded, what is the record for runners stranded by a team that doesn't score 850 runs?
   40. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:06 PM (#2758101)
I don't know, but the Cards are on pace to set the record for LOB in a week.
   41. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:09 PM (#2758102)
Baseball-reference keeps improving their site, but they don't have the stuff that I want there, it's like Sean doesn't care at all about relief pitchers.

If you don't have holds as a stat it is impossible to calculate save percentage (not hyperbole but fact, you cannot calculate save percentage if you don't have number of holds, since holds by their definition is save opportunity) That we don't have team lob on the team page. among other stuff that he probably doesn't have the info on yet.

damn runner going prevents the dp.
   42. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:09 PM (#2758103)
Damn, would have had the DP if Doumit hadn't been running.
   43. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:10 PM (#2758104)
oops I forgot to state, I wished Baseball-reference had lob at least at the team level on their site.
   44. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:11 PM (#2758105)
son of a biscuit eater.
   45. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:11 PM (#2758106)
####### A.
   46. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2758108)
And dodged another bullet there. At least Joel waited until the 4th to break down this time.
   47. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:19 PM (#2758115)
Pineiro walks too? Wow, Gorz is not sharp at all. And the Cards still have no runs....

Time for Ryan to start his year off right.
   48. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:21 PM (#2758117)
6 BBs in 5 IP? Not good, even by Pirates standards. #3 was a prophet for tonight, except that they're not killing him.
   49. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2758120)
another chance to leave a couple men on base.
   50. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2758121)
come on, you guys. let' do something!!!!
   51. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2758122)
heck Gorzo has a no hitter going on.
   52. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2758124)
So....walking the 8-9-1 guys to load the bases, 1 out, is not winning baseball.
   53. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2758125)
bases loaded and one out, Barton has a chance to make this interesting.
   54. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2758127)
The Cards haven't had a chance to get a hit, 7 BB in 19 batters is a LOT.

NICE work Barton. Maybe TLR will let him play the whole game for a change.
   55. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2758128)
way to go Barton.
   56. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2758129)
I keep posting on other boards with my comments here. They need to make the background for game chatter different looking than the newsblog site.
   57. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2758130)
yes!!! even a blind pig can find a truffle!
   58. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2758131)
Why let Barton play a whole game? defensively our best outfield is Ankiel, Ludwick and Schumaker. If you are winning in the 7th or later need to put defense out there.

Pujols with an RBI.
   59. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2758133)
HERO TIME, albert.
   60. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2758134)
Why would you voluntarily go inside on Albert? ESPECIALLY when your control is objectively terrible?

Anyway, that was a quick 3 runs.
   61. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2758135)
yes!!! even a blind pig can find a truffle!

what's wrong with Barton?
   62. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2758136)
excellent.
   63. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2758137)
i'm just exasperated with his play up until the single. first he gets picked off at completely the wrong time -- not that there's a right time -- then he goes up hacking against a guy who's been walking everybody.
   64. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2758138)
dang Ludwick is not doing so hot so far, at least he's hit the ball to the outfield.
   65. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2758139)
I keep posting on other boards with my comments here. They need to make the background for game chatter different looking than the newsblog site.

I keep two tabs open, one a dedicated GC tab and one for Newblog.

Barton is not as good of a OF, true, but Duncan plays the whole game. It seems unfair to pull Barton every time.
   66. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2758140)
even the great Albert has brainfarts.

I agree that he made a mistake, but in the Bernie/TLR conversation about Brendan Ryan he used the term "plays young" I think that could be applied to Barton also.
   67. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:32 PM (#2758142)
Barton is hitting .323/.382/.484 in 31 ABs, which is good for a 127 OPS+, so he's not quite a blind pig yet.
   68. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2758144)
I'm not a fan of tab browsing so I never uploaded IE 7 (and no I won't do firefox I'm very picky about load times as it is) so I have a bunch of windows open and the first two are bbtf. I just keep clicking the wrong one.

I'm pretty sure that Duncan gets replaced fairly frequently in the 7th inning and later.
   69. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2758145)
Good, quick inning from Pineiro. Another K, 4 in 5 IP today. I'll take this for the rest of the year, last inning notwithstanding.
   70. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2758149)
easy guys, easy. like i said, i just didn't like how he was playing today.
   71. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2758150)
I hated tabs at first but you get used to it.

Duncan does get replaced, but not all the time. Ludwick is not much of a RF, at least by BBRef; too lazy to look up other stats.
   72. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2758153)
good show, ryan.
   73. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2758154)
I have tabs on my laptop (I really wanted Vista) and so sometimes I do like it.

Ryan has nearly as many hits as can't hit now.
   74. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2758155)
No worries phred, he did get picked off.

Ryan and Skip both come through there. Barton again?
   75. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2758157)
Ludwick was arguably our best defensive outfielder last season, this year he hasn't been that good.
   76. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2758158)
come on barton. justify my love!!!

:-)
   77. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2758159)
Vista is terrible, it drives me crazy. Though it did stop randomly adjusting my display settings, finally.

I don't think there's much debate that Ryan is a better option than Izturis, right?
   78. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2758161)
Barton hits the ball almost enough.
   79. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2758162)
wow, the announcers are talking about barton's education. he's like an engineer at boeing when he's not playing.
   80. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2758165)
oof. i thought that might carry.
   81. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2758167)
Damn, thought he had it there.

THT doesn't have much in the way of fielding stats. Anyone have BP?
   82. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2758169)
Vista is terrible, it drives me crazy. Though it did stop randomly adjusting my display settings, finally.

I haven't played with it much to be honest (yes I do sell computers so I have plenty of time there to mess with it) I was waiting for service pack 1 before I even considered Vista, problem is I got a real cheap lapop and Vista with less than 2gb rams doesn't perform much different than XP. When you hit the 2gb threshold with a decent processor, you get vector graphics which should improve perfomance for most standard applications.

Wow, freaking great ass play.
   83. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2758173)
Yeah, Barton's degree is in aerodynamic engineering or something.

Pineiro makes quite the play there; that was pretty crazy. WG for sure.
   84. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2758175)
that'll be on espn for sure.
   85. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2758176)
wow, the announcers are talking about barton's education. he's like an engineer at boeing when he's not playing.

and one of the rumors is that he wasn't taken seriously by lower levels of Cleveland because of his education, a black guy playing sports isn't supposed to be smart, so they considered his brains to be an attitude problem. Not sure how much is true, just the talk when we got him. Could just be spin.
   86. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2758178)
i owe you a coke, guts.
   87. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2758182)
good play, nearly a dp. I think the ump screwed up.
   88. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2758183)
Yeah, Vista eats a LOT of processing power. It's not too bad browsing, which is 95% of everything I do on my laptop, but trying to play games or load something more complicated is ugly. This computer is >1 year old, though. I'm sure a new one will perform better.

Almost got the DP there, Doumit is pretty fast for a catcher.
   89. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2758186)
is that other barton in oakland or wherever his brother? is he an egghead too? now i'm leaning toward being a fan.
   90. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2758189)
i owe you a coke, guts.

Accepted.

That seems a pretty crazy reason not to like a guy; I heard they thought he would drop out of baseball for an engineering job though, which is basically the same. Weird.
   91. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2758191)
Daric Barton is a white dude, I think. And he got drafted (by the Cards!) out of HS, so I doubt he's an egghead.
   92. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2758194)
now that you mention it, i did hear somewhere that they aren't related.
   93. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:58 PM (#2758196)
damn, Albert hit that too hard.
   94. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2758197)
#### #### ####. He hit it too hard, but no way can you take a 1B there, I guess.
   95. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: April 24, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2758199)
shiznitz!!!
   96. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2758201)
That seems a pretty crazy reason not to like a guy; I heard they thought he would drop out of baseball for an engineering job though, which is basically the same. Weird.

it's the baseball fraternity, there is still a strong stereotype, especially among older coaches/scouts to not like smart players. I always point out to Ted Simmons who was caught (gasp) reading a real book in the locker room and reprimanded by the old manager (Vern Ruhle who was a clearly incompetent dunderhead)

Way to go Molina(Glaus is limping?)
   97. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2758204)
but no way can you take a 1B there, I guess.

agreed 100%, Albert was running out of the gate and you just don't take a single when the ball hits the wall in the corner on the fly
   98. Guts Posted: April 24, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2758205)
Yeah, they're not related.

Glaus with a hit. Pujols is OBPing over .500 this year.
   99. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 09:10 PM (#2758216)
Pinero is trying to close his lack of strikeouts.
   100. cardsfanboy Posted: April 24, 2008 at 09:14 PM (#2758225)
was that a hit or another error?
