another reason to like Schumaker "Edmonds is a hall of famer".

yes I know that he won't go in, but he does at least belong in the discussion
   102. Guts Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:08 PM (#2771503)
Too bad he got the concussion, a couple more good years and he'd had a great case.
   103. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:09 PM (#2771504)
unless your catchers name was Piazza, I really hate seeing a homerun from the opposition catcher.
   104. Guts Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:09 PM (#2771505)
So, still a 3 run lead....but I may be close to being a little nervous.
   105. Guts Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:11 PM (#2771506)
Wow, nice DP. Damn fine play.
   106. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:11 PM (#2771507)
the runner was safe at second in my opinion.
   107. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:11 PM (#2771508)
darn, i was getting ready to leave ... oh, double play!
   108. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:12 PM (#2771512)
ok maybe he was out, good play then.
   109. Guts Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2771516)
Eh, the phantom tag is well-recognized.
   110. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2771517)
i'm gonna take my chances and bail. if we have a lead and izzy comes in i don't think i can watch. besides i gotta get to the gym ... have a good game, guys.
   111. Guts Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:16 PM (#2771518)
Later. Thanks for bringing up Izzy!
   112. Guts Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:17 PM (#2771520)
They've "done the little things" or "made some hellacious plays," almost the same thing guys.
   113. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2771524)
I love Izzy, Cardinal fans hate him so much that it makes me laugh, outside of one year, he's been a top 7 closer in baseball. We'll have to see about this year, I'm personally hoping for him to be about 3.50 era with a few blown saves so that management doesn't feel the need to waste good money on a closer and to just bring Perez up.
   114. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:21 PM (#2771526)
ok the announcer said he asked the Rockies personel about why Larry Walker didn't participate in the world series ceremonies.....and then he never explained their answer.
   115. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2771528)
do they really think that Lohse would take Boras's advice again after last years fiasco (he probably lost 30 mil or so due to Scotts advice)
   116. Guts Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2771529)
Wow, Larry Walker!

Izzy has been really good over the course of his Cards career, no question.
1) He's sucked so far this year, despite the saves.
2) Even when he's been great, he's been maddening in terms of putting men on base.

That is the one that frustrates a lot of people, but it's not really true. In comparison to the average closer he wasn't any worse, and the truth is that he would allow walks before he allowed a single so a lot of the allowed obp was a choice in a way.
   118. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:28 PM (#2771535)
bb-reference is pissing me off, one of his advertisements keep crashing IE.
   119. Guts Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:30 PM (#2771538)
Maybe, but it seems like it's true. Izzy has been great, but he still drives me crazy, even if it's not rational.
   120. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:32 PM (#2771541)
Ok, in Issys good years he had whips of 1.071(2007), 1.186 (2005), 1.035(2004), 1.167(2003), .980 (2002)

these aren't Mariano Rivera numbers, but I don't think anyone has said he was that good.
   121. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:36 PM (#2771547)

I know, it seems like I'm biting my fingernails whenever Issy is pitching, but I would be willing to bet that any fan with realistic expectations outside of Yankee fans, worries when their closer comes in and will be williing to trade him for someone else.

What I find funny though, even on this site there are guys who say that there are easily 10-20 better closers in baseball, and I find that statement to be silly, and even more silly is someone claiming that over any multiple stretch of recent years, that Issy isn't in the top 10 among closers.
   122. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:36 PM (#2771548)
nice scary play by Barton, but he had it all the way :)
   123. Guts Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2771555)
No, in the last 5~ years there have been few closers - Rivera, Nathan, Hoffman? - who have been better than Izzy.
   124. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:40 PM (#2771557)
good reason to draft a player, so that we can team him up with his brother in the same city.

if Chris Long is actually worth drafting it would be a fun story.
   125. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2771560)
A few I agree, Rivera and Wagner are my first two, for some reason I always forget Nathan but he obviously belongs on that list. Add Hoffman as you mentioned and that is pretty much the entire list(k-rod?)
   126. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:44 PM (#2771566)
Ludwick with another base hit, who coulda thought he would be any good?
   127. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:44 PM (#2771567)
damn baseball-reference crashed again. Stupid flash based advertisement.
   128. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:49 PM (#2771575)
Is it safe to say that Looper is a legitimate major league starting pitcher?
   129. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:54 PM (#2771585)
Ankiel with a game today. Has to show up Ludwick.
   130. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:54 PM (#2771587)
Yadi with a single.
   131. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:56 PM (#2771590)
Yadi should just steal second base.
   132. NetOwl Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:56 PM (#2771591)
Rick Ankiel HR!

I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't replace Duncan with Ludwick on my fantasy team.
   133. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:00 PM (#2771598)
I have Ludwick on my fantasy team, but TLR will only play him against lefties(which is tomorrow and thursday games)
   134. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:03 PM (#2771603)
you have to be ####### kidding me.....
   135. Jon Egypt Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2771609)
Yep, it's the Rick Ankiel show tonight.
   136. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:10 PM (#2771613)
Ludwick with another double, and isn't close to being player of the game.
   137. Jon Egypt Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:10 PM (#2771615)
Eventually, just like they did with Yadi, teams are going to realize it's not a good idea to challenge Rick's arm.
   138. Jon Egypt Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:14 PM (#2771624)
Seriously, as great as Ludwick and Looper have both been tonight, they're going to be completely overlooked.
   139. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:26 PM (#2771641)
Looper couldn't quite finish the game, Franklin in for the save hopefully.
   140. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:29 PM (#2771648)
damn Loopers era takes a hit.
   141. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:31 PM (#2771652)
dang this all the sudden became a game.
   142. Guts Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:32 PM (#2771654)
AH!!!
   143. cardsfanboy Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:34 PM (#2771655)
