Jurrjens will tear his rotator cuff in this game.
   2. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 06:55 PM (#2882810)
I really, really, really miss Chris Carpenter. If he is even a shadow of his former self, I will be overjoyed. Also, it would be great if his arm doesn't fall off midpitch during this start.
   3. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 06:57 PM (#2882811)
The Mather Experiment is still going on, so I assume Ankiel is still ill.
   4. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:09 PM (#2882828)
Well, if Hampton can pitch in the major leagues again, anyone can. Even Mark Mulder!!

Braves usually suck the big one against Carpenter, even when they run their big league team out there. So yea, today is going to be more agony.
   5. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:10 PM (#2882832)
Skip starts the game off right, continuing his RHP-killing ways.
   6. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:12 PM (#2882835)
Everybody usually sucks against Carp, but this is not Carp v.2005 - this is post-surgery, not fully healed Carp. This should be an interesting start.

Kotchman makes his first putout as a Brave.
   7. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:14 PM (#2882842)
What an annoying strike call.
   8. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:14 PM (#2882843)
Cmon JJ. Don't relax to Ludwick cos you got Albert.
   9. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:17 PM (#2882848)
Glaus is stone cold. He is Edmonds-level streaky.
   10. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:20 PM (#2882849)
Carp! Ah, the memories of utter, utter dominance.
   11. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:20 PM (#2882850)
Of course, he walks a guy trying to bunt.
   12. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:22 PM (#2882854)
Ok, new guy. Time to make your bones.
   13. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:23 PM (#2882860)
Whoa, Dan is analyzing the Tex deal using OBP and SLG, and notes that the Angels are not a great offensive team. This is like quantum physics for him.
   14. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:24 PM (#2882862)
I have no idea why Norton is batting cleanup. Sigh
   15. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:25 PM (#2882865)
This is a weird lineup for the Braves, though I realize it must be tough to put something together when all of your best players are out. I think I would hit Johnson 3 and Kotchman 4, though. Or Johnson 2, Kotchman 3.
   16. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:27 PM (#2882870)
Scoreless first inning for Carp; the BB was ugly, but good fielding on the bunt, got a GB, and induced a popup. Not too bad, let's see where this goes.
   17. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:28 PM (#2882871)
go cards.
   18. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:28 PM (#2882872)
I think the team thinking is that KJ is pressing too much, and they are letting him work it out lower down. He is extremely streaky. When he gets hot, I am sure he will get pushed up.
   19. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:30 PM (#2882876)
So Jurrjens and Campillo are the only reasons to watch this team now.
   20. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:31 PM (#2882881)
That was an amazingly good AB for Carpenter.
   21. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:31 PM (#2882882)
Carpenter put a charge into that. His shoulder is ok!
   22. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:33 PM (#2882885)
Campillo was impressive last night, and Jurrjens is also good.
   23. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:34 PM (#2882889)
Its going to be a good ROY race in the NL this year.
JJ, Campillo, Volquez and Soto.
   24. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:34 PM (#2882890)
There goes the no-hitter.
   25. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:34 PM (#2882891)
Well, the no hitter is broken up :)
   26. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:34 PM (#2882892)
Grrr, now I owe a coke too! This is not a good week!
   27. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:35 PM (#2882894)
That was terrible luck.
   28. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:35 PM (#2882895)
Lucky break there. But its Francoeur coming up. Alas
   29. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:36 PM (#2882898)
Ok, this is a good test. Carp v.2005 would strike Francouer out, then get a DP.

This version gives up a hit. Hm, I like that much less.
   30. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:37 PM (#2882901)
Checks for flying pigs outside my window.
   31. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:38 PM (#2882903)
Corky bunts to get them into scoring position for Jurrjens. He is the better hitter, and Bobby realises it!
   32. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:38 PM (#2882905)
This is a crap ton of bunts so far. Bobby knows it's not Carp's legs that are hurt, right?
   33. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:38 PM (#2882907)
aw geez. come on, carp.
   34. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:40 PM (#2882915)
Bobby knows it's not Carp's legs that are hurt, right?

Bobby knows the quality of hitters he has to work with. Argh, KJ, you have to score on that.
   35. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:40 PM (#2882919)
FSN was so sure Johnson would score on that, they put up the run before Pujols even got to the bag. Whoops.
   36. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:42 PM (#2882920)
Carp's stuff is a notch down, but that is too be expected. The lack of control is a little worrisome, but I don't think anyone expected him to be 100%.
   37. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:47 PM (#2882932)
Nice play, Kelly!
   38. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:47 PM (#2882935)
Nice play - Albert leads off yet another inning. Sigh.
   39. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:48 PM (#2882937)
Coke owed - we are even.
   40. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:51 PM (#2882942)
The Braves getting all the breaks so far.
   41. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:51 PM (#2882944)
Carp's curve is getting pounded, and he is not locating the fastball particularly well. Maybe he needed another rehab start.
   42. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:55 PM (#2882954)
Mather made an outstanding catch in his first game. Otherwise, his D is ####.
   43. Portia Stanke Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:55 PM (#2882955)
Hits are blooping all over the place tonight.
   44. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 30, 2008 at 07:56 PM (#2882957)
that looked lucky too.
   45. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:00 PM (#2882964)
Thats a good sign, when Kelly stops being itchy on the 3-2. Might be heating up again.
   46. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:00 PM (#2882965)
They're not exactly tattoing linedrives all over the field, but that could be a function of this lineup. This is certianly far from the worst case scenario - well, I guess there's still time for his arm to fall off - but it's not the best case either.

More BBs - Carp does not have good control.
   47. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:02 PM (#2882967)
Got out of that.
   48. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:02 PM (#2882968)
Thats the goat we know and hate.
   49. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:03 PM (#2882971)
boy, carp looks tired already.
   50. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:04 PM (#2882973)
boy, carp looks tired already.

I was running around campus today for some work. My shirt was soaked and I had to take a nap when I got home. Its been a very very very hot week here
   51. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:09 PM (#2882986)
I imagine we will be seeing some Thompson in this game, Carp is evidently on a soft limit of 85 anyway. He had only pitched 5 innings in the rehab starts.
   52. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2882997)
ESPN has Cubs-Crew! Exciting.
   53. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:14 PM (#2883005)
Carp got a K! I am sure Ludwig will tell us that one doesn't really count.

Holy ####, Brian Jordan! Thanks for '96, Bri.
   54. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2883008)
Two Ks now...
   55. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2883011)
Now THAT'S mroe like it.
   56. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2883014)
I am sure Ludwig will tell us that one doesn't really count.

Cmon. It was Corky Abraham Miller!

Here is a fun Corky website
   57. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:20 PM (#2883030)
His name is actually Corky? Wow.

Carp done - reasonably good start. Not ideal, but he can't be a worse option than, oh, the rest of the rotation going forward.
   58. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2883036)
####, Izturis is doing good things offensively again. They better not resign that ############.
   59. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2883037)
what did i miss? why is looper at bat?
   60. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2883040)
what did i miss? why is looper at bat?

Pinch bunting for Carpenter
   61. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2883041)
hot d@mn!
   62. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2883044)
oh, carp gets to sit already. did he hit 85 pitches?
   63. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2883048)
Jurrjens starting to lose it. UGH
   64. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2883050)
oh, carp gets to sit already. did he hit 85 pitches?

I don't think so, but he was laboring a bit and it looks really hot there. Besides, his last inning was pretty sweet, so better to go out on a high note.
   65. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2883055)
Kennedy too...we're stuck with him, though.
   66. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2883056)
Game over.
   67. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2883057)
BOO! Pitch to Albert!
   68. Portia Stanke Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2883058)
It's blooper night at the ballpark.

Adam Kennedy, you will live to see another day.
   69. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2883062)
Adam Kennedy, you will live to see another day.

Russian Roulette of 2Bmen?
   70. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2883064)
WHAT??!?!?! That second strike to Glaus was ridiculous.
   71. Portia Stanke Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2883065)
Eric Gregg?
   72. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2883068)
Russian Roulette of 2Bmen?

Our 2Bmen execution has been poor.
   73. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2883069)
0-2 to 3-2. Not a good sign
   74. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2883076)
Troy - Stop swinging at ball 4.

KTHXBAI.
   75. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2883081)
Damn.

That play was ok, not super-impressive.
   76. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2883082)
Francoeur made that catch?!! WOW

But hurt now, I guess.
   77. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2883084)
NUTS!!!!!
   78. Portia Stanke Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2883085)
I will try not to make fun of the way that Frenchie ran.
   79. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2883089)
That play was ok, not super-impressive.

I dunno, that was long run running backwards at a decent clip. But anyway, the Cards have the lead so game over.
   80. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2883091)
fsn announcers are calling a ramirez trade. can't remember the names. i believe he's going to the marlins.
   81. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2883094)
Nah, the blockbuster deal of the day is..

DRUM ROLL

Ed Wade picks ups LaTroy Hawkins from the Yankees and he even gives the Yanks a warm body for that privilege.
   82. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2883100)
God, the Braves suck at scoring from second on a single.
   83. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2883101)
The (-----) to the Marlins talk is really picking up. I am against the Cards giving up quality for Bay, though, he is not the area of need.
   84. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2883119)
Tie game. I am pleasantly surprised!
   85. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2883120)
Got the GB, but it was in the wrong place.
   86. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2883134)
Thats one way to get walks. bat in front of Corky Miller.
   87. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2883136)
Walking Francouer on 4 pitches is a capital offense.
   88. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2883140)
Typical. Leave a bunch of runners on early, esp with bases loaded. And wnd the game wringing your hands. Brad Thompson looks like he lost 10 lbs pitching that inning.
   89. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2883145)
Jurrjens for the Gold Glove too!
   90. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 09:10 PM (#2883185)
Come on Albert.....
   91. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2883188)
Damn, missed that by very little.
   92. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 09:13 PM (#2883205)
Testing moment for Jurrjens. 3-2 on Pujols in the bottom of the 7th in a tie game.
   93. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 09:15 PM (#2883216)
UGH. FAIL
   94. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2883226)
That was a bad moment for my internet to crap out. Uh, yeah, Albert. He's the best. Quite literally.
   95. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2883231)
That misplay was worse than I thought - Kennedy was loafing, he would have been dead. WTF is Escobar thinking there?

Albert - defensive god.
   96. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 09:22 PM (#2883235)
TLR feels bad for Cox, and has decided to bring in Villone to even things up.
   97. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 30, 2008 at 09:23 PM (#2883236)
Albert - defensive god.

Fixed
   98. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 09:24 PM (#2883240)
Albert - defensive god.

Fixed

Concur.
   99. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2883243)
Why, oh why, bring in Villone? He sucks.
   100. Guts Posted: July 30, 2008 at 09:29 PM (#2883251)
Oh, it's Springer. Nevermind. He does not suck.

And gets out of it. I am kind of hungry...I don't have any food here, but I don't want to leave. Hm.
