Jake's off to a good start, striking out Pujols and Rolen to strand a runner on 3rd.
   2. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 04:28 PM (#2041472)
Mike Cameron absolutely crushed Molina at the plate, who held on for the out though. That was a vicious hit.
   3. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 04:29 PM (#2041474)
And Peavy gives up a solo homerun. That's becoming way too common.
   4. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 04:40 PM (#2041485)
Nice try by Encarnacion, but it turned into a double for Bard.
   5. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 04:46 PM (#2041493)
Mulder looks off today, vulnerable. A good defensive play saved a run in the first, and Barfield swung at a ball a foot outside to help him off the hook in the second. The Padres better get to him if they have more chances, because Peavy's had awful run support this year and deserves better.
   6. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 04:50 PM (#2041504)
Peavy strikes out Pujols on 3 pitches again. That's the good news. The bad news is that I keep getting the feeling Pujols is going to break out of this series slump anytime now. He's only had 1 hit in the 3 games so far.
   7. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:01 PM (#2041528)
Nice try Barfield.
   8. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:04 PM (#2041536)
That hit the security guard, shouldn't that be a dead ball?
   9. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:09 PM (#2041541)
Bellhorn goes opposite field to the beach! Tie game.
   10. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:10 PM (#2041544)
And Josh Bard goes back-to-back!

That landed in the top balcony of the western metal building.
   11. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:17 PM (#2041549)
Bellhorn's homer was given as 438 feet, which is a new PetCo record, while Bard's bomb tied the old record by Sosa of 434 feet.

And Aaron Miles nearly hits one out for St Louis, off the right field wall. The balls are jumping.
   12. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:19 PM (#2041554)
Peavy fielded a bunt and went to third for the lead runner and didn't get him. He should have taken the out. A single drives in the runner on 3rd, still none out. Short-lived lead.
   13. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:20 PM (#2041557)
Rodriguez doubles in a run, leaving 2nd and 3rd, none out, for Pujols. This is going bad for Peavy in a hurry.
   14. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:22 PM (#2041560)
And Pujols proves me right, breaking his slump and possibly setting a new HR distance record. Three run-shot to deep center.
   15. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:25 PM (#2041564)
They're saying Pujols HR was 436 feet. And Piazza hit one 432 feet a couple of days ago. Some serious power showings.
   16. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:33 PM (#2041575)
Two singles and an error give the Padres a bases loaded, none out chance.
   17. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:35 PM (#2041578)
Young didn't tag on a fly to right? Is he that slow that they didn't think he could score? I was counting the run off the bat.
   18. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:37 PM (#2041580)
Full count to Khalil.. and ball four walks in a run!

The bullpen's been up behind Mulder, he may get one more chance.
   19. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:37 PM (#2041582)
C'mon Bellhorn.
   20. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:38 PM (#2041584)
Bellhorn!!! Just misses a grand slam and settles for a 3-run double off the deepest part of the right center wall.
   21. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#2041587)
And Josh Bard goes deep again!! Two run shot! And Mulder's day is done.
   22. DCW3 * Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#2041589)
Steroids.
   23. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#2041590)
What a fifth inning. Cardinals score 5 and the Padres answer with 6, so far.
   24. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:44 PM (#2041593)
And Barfield greets the reliever with a double.

And Blum singles him in!
   25. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:47 PM (#2041594)
With Blum pinch-hitting, Peavy's final line is 5 IP, 99 pitches, 9 hits, 6 ER, 0 BB, 6 Ks, and miraculously he's in line for the win.
   26. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:49 PM (#2041598)
Mulder's final line is 4.1 IP, 86 pitches, 10 hits, 8 ER, 1 BB, 3 Ks.
   27. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:50 PM (#2041600)
Young walks and Cameron drives in Blum with a single to left. Unbelievable. Only 1 out still.
   28. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:52 PM (#2041602)
Castilla was the only Padre not to reach base today, until he gets drilled on the arm/ribs area. Bases loaded again, 2 out.
   29. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 05:55 PM (#2041610)
Khalil pops out to end a wild and crazy 5th inning.

The Cardinals scored 5 runs on 5 hits in the top half.

The Padres scored 8 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks in the bottom.
   30. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 06:00 PM (#2041617)
And the craziness continues. A solid single by Miles, a failed hit-and-run that ends up as a stolen base, and a sacrifice that turns into an infield single leaving runners on 1st and 3rd, none out.
   31. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 06:06 PM (#2041622)
A runner-in-motion groundout scores the runner from third, and escapes a double play, followed by a check-swing single that drops in front of the left fielder. This is the strangest inning and a half I've seen all year.
   32. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 06:07 PM (#2041625)
This brings up Pujols with runners on first and third. A home run ties it.
   33. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 06:09 PM (#2041628)
Pujols draws a full count walk to load them for Rolen.
   34. friarfan Posted: May 28, 2006 at 06:11 PM (#2041633)
Adkins induces a double play to end the threat. A hit there and I could have see the bullpen getting demolished today.
   35. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: May 29, 2006 at 02:20 AM (#2042041)
Mark Mulder completely ####ing SUCKS! At this point, Cincinnati has a better rotation than the Cardinals.
   36. Gromit Posted: May 29, 2006 at 10:23 AM (#2042197)
Piazza? Meet the bench. Josh Bard? Meet home plate.
