Tampa Bay Devil Rays (65-91) at Cleveland Indians (92-64) - 7:05 PM EDT

TB: Kazmir (9-9, 3.85)
CLE: Elarton (11-7, 4.38)

Mr. Not-Ready-For-The-Majors has been dynamite in the second half, espcially September when he’s 2-0 with a 1.75 ERA. Tampa has been good as the spoiler this season.

In its last seven games against contenders though, the Devil Rays are 1-6. 0-3 at home against the Yankees and 1-3 at Anaheim.

Bernal- You're calling a Detroit sweep?
   10. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:26 PM (#1646954)
I am very, very concerned.

It's just my nature.
   11. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:27 PM (#1646960)
To tell the truth I really do't care what the other teams do. I just want the Indians to win 4 more games. I think If we win 4 more we make it. We win 3 we are out.

The Indians do need to get their heads out of their asses right now though.
   12. Ben Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:27 PM (#1646961)
Hmm. That's no good.
   13. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:28 PM (#1646964)
If Zydrunus Ilgauskus is playing first that is an out. Probably.
   14. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:29 PM (#1646970)
O's tie it up.

If Zydrunus Ilgauskus is playing first that is an out. Probably.

If Z was playing first he would have broken his foot in April.
   16. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:31 PM (#1646979)
LOL.

O's lead.

I really want to win our way in to the playoffs so I don;t hve to hear those pain in the ass Yankee fans ##### about how we backed in.

You gotta be kidding me. Get it together guys. Jesus.

I really want to win our way in to the playoffs so I don;t hve to hear those pain in the #### Yankee fans #### about how we backed in.

I agree with this except that I would rather see the Yankees in the playoffs than the Red Sox.

Tigers lead 1-0.

Tigers lead.

Oh I don;t care who we face in the playoffs. I am bound to piss someone off regardless.
   23. JD Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:40 PM (#1647016)
Gotta give Elarton credit for getting six outs before the D-Rays can score.
   24. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:42 PM (#1647024)
If we win 5 games we clinch a playoff spot, correct?
   25. JD Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:42 PM (#1647025)
I really want to win our way in to the playoffs so I don;t hve to hear those pain in the #### Yankee fans #### about how we backed in.

We can't back into the playoffs for chrissakes. The WC is tied. This isn't like 2000 (IIRC) when the Yankees went something like 2-13 in the last few weeks, backed into the playoffs, had a worse record than the playoff-missing Indians, yet won the WS.
   26. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:43 PM (#1647037)
And if we win 4 we clinch a playoff game for the wild-card slot, correct?
   27. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:44 PM (#1647039)
We can’t back into the playoffs for chrissakes.

i know that, you know that but the dumbass Yankee fans will still gripe that we backed into the playoffs.
   28. JD Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:44 PM (#1647042)
If we win 5 games we clinch a playoff spot, correct?

Yes. 5-1 clinches a playoff spot no matter what the other teams do. 4-2 clinches at least a tie for the WC (and a one-game playoff).
   29. JD Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:47 PM (#1647052)
i know that, you know that but the dumbass Yankee fans will still gripe that we backed into the playoffs.

True that. Sorry Bernal.

AFB can atone for his errors now.

Casey Blake is going to come up clutch here, guys. I just know it.

Damn.

Never mind.
   35. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:53 PM (#1647083)
He hit that to the deepest part of the park. Pull that a bit and it is 4-1.
   36. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:53 PM (#1647086)
Freaking John Sanders. He pulled a Tom Hamilton there. In a tense situation an announcer should never be allowed to raise his voice in excitement until he is certain that there will be no disappointment.
   37. JD Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:56 PM (#1647100)
That was Good Defense Boone.
   38. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:58 PM (#1647113)
What is with that mustache on Travis Lee?
   39. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:59 PM (#1647116)
Lee's most similar is Sid Bream.
   40. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:59 PM (#1647118)
O's up 4-1.
   41. The Man "With the Terrible Smell" Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:00 PM (#1647126)
i like Tom hamilton. Gamecast is all fudged up. I'm having trouble keeping up with all the other games.
   42. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:02 PM (#1647138)
I like Hamilton too, for the most part, but I do not like how he gets all excited for what seems to be no reason in particular. That said, I don't really get the chance to listen to him very much. Only when I am with my friend who has XM radio.
   43. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:03 PM (#1647142)
Also, O's up 5-1 and still batting. Runners at the corners and 2 out. Red Sox up 2-0. White Sox/Tigers tied.
   44. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:04 PM (#1647149)
Al Leiter relieves Mussina. That is beautiful
   45. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:04 PM (#1647152)
Tom Hamilton looks nothing like you think he does.
   46. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:06 PM (#1647155)
What does he look like?
   47. JD Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:08 PM (#1647166)
That said, I don’t really get the chance to listen to him very much. Only when I am with my friend who has XM radio.

Tony, you're not in 38 states and half of Canada?

   49. JD Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:10 PM (#1647175)
This game is terribly frustrating so far.
   50. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:12 PM (#1647185)
LOL. Wait. Tom Hamilton looks like Lyndie England? Or one of the guys with the bag over their head?

Tony, you’re not in 38 states and half of Canada?

I don't think I understand this? I'm assuming it's something said in an ad for a radio station or something? Am I close?
   51. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:13 PM (#1647189)
Do we even have a hit yet?

Red Sox up 3-0.

Tigers back on top 2-1.

Orioles still up 5-1.
   52. JD Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:13 PM (#1647193)
I’m assuming it’s something said in an ad for a radio station or something? Am I close?

Yeah. WTAM/1100 advertises itself as being audible in "38 states and half of canada." A claim which has some validity, in an east/west direction, at night.
   53. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:16 PM (#1647201)
Gregg Zaun home run, Jays down 3-2 now.

Yeah. WTAM/1100 advertises itself as being audible in “38 states and half of canada.” A claim which has some validity, in an east/west direction, at night.

Gotcha. I figured.

No, I am not in 38 states and half of Canada.

Sheffield homer. 5-3 O's.

Not good.
   57. JD Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:24 PM (#1647242)
This is a pathetic offensive performance by the Indians.
   58. Ben Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:29 PM (#1647263)
Go Blue Jays, Orioles and Tigers.
   59. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:33 PM (#1647283)
My level of concern is extreme.
   60. JD Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:34 PM (#1647286)
Those were two nice plays by Casey. Not exactly redemption...but still, credit where due.

Cleveland in process of blowing their season.
   64. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:43 PM (#1647342)
I have changed my handle for the first time in order to inspire the Indians to rally.
   65. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:47 PM (#1647366)
Sheffield grand slam.

This is not good.
   66. Ben Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:48 PM (#1647376)
Baltimore has blown their lead
   67. madherb Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:53 PM (#1647403)
####. Of course they did. Has Baltimore won a single game against the Sox or Yankees in September?
   68. Tony H. Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:56 PM (#1647415)
Now I am going to go watch the Bob Dylan documentary while I am watching the Cleveland game. Go Indians.
   69. JD Posted: September 27, 2005 at 09:05 PM (#1647451)
Is that three innings ended by Blake with RISP?
   70. Veee Posted: September 27, 2005 at 09:16 PM (#1647483)
We need some positivity here, people
   71. JD Posted: September 27, 2005 at 09:18 PM (#1647488)
We're into their bullpen. That's something positive.
   72. madherb Posted: September 27, 2005 at 09:18 PM (#1647491)
That was ball four.
   73. madherb Posted: September 27, 2005 at 09:20 PM (#1647501)
So was that.
   74. Veee Posted: September 27, 2005 at 09:25 PM (#1647517)
Couple near misses that inning. It's good to see some solid contact

Detroit wins
   76. Veee Posted: September 27, 2005 at 09:38 PM (#1647572)

   83. madherb Posted: September 27, 2005 at 09:50 PM (#1647636)

I still can't quite believe that ended without Hafner getting a hit or Belliard driving in Gutierrez from third. I thought even a groundball had a good chance to do it.
   97. MLB Posted: September 27, 2005 at 10:24 PM (#1647845)
I couldn't help grinning from the start of the bottom of the 9th, but I sat still, staring, not refreshing GC, repeatedly telling myself not to get too excited: objectively, they'd still probably lose. And then they kept up the excitement to the point where I really believed they'd do it. Did they actually miss?
