No, not Kazmir!
   2. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 12:13 PM (#2768406)
We can catch him in a warm-up start, Biff. Nothing wrong with that.
   3. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 01:45 PM (#2768442)
Nobody else in game chatter?
   4. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 01:47 PM (#2768445)
Lester's getting squeezed already.
   5. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: May 04, 2008 at 01:53 PM (#2768450)
Needless to say, Manny does not make that play.
   6. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 01:57 PM (#2768451)
Iwamura has impressive range at 2B.
   7. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 01:57 PM (#2768452)
Steal, Jacoby, STEAL
   8. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:01 PM (#2768454)
Did the Red Sox not make a roster move for Moss?
   9. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:02 PM (#2768455)
I like the double steal with Kazmir pitching.

God, Iwamura is a douche.
   10. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:02 PM (#2768456)
4th SB this season already for Dustin.
   11. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:10 PM (#2768462)
I'm pretty sure that was fair.
   12. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:11 PM (#2768463)
It was.
   13. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:16 PM (#2768466)
Julio Lugo is so good at baseball.
   14. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:18 PM (#2768468)
Thanks, Lugo.
   15. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:23 PM (#2768471)
Lugo has now gotten back to owning 50% of the 2008 Red Sox team errors.
   16. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:27 PM (#2768475)
I like Drew, but seriously, when was the last time he hit a line drive?
   17. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:33 PM (#2768477)
Come on, Lugo, ground into your DP here to prove you're the most useless player imaginable.
   18. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:55 PM (#2768489)
Well, even if it's a rusty Kazmir, I'm still glad to see the Red Sox hitting well against him.
   19. Joe Bivens, Lightning Rod Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:55 PM (#2768491)
Celtics up a million, 3rd quarter.
   20. Third True Outcome Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:04 PM (#2768496)
Celtics up a million, 3rd quarter.

As nervous as it has made me, I guess the C's lose on the road, blow their opponent out at home strategy will win them the title...
   21. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:05 PM (#2768497)
Who is this chick in the booth?
   22. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:06 PM (#2768498)
Is she the replacement for Tina Cervasio?
   23. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:08 PM (#2768499)
Don't the Red Sox seem like a way better team when Ellsbury is in the lineup. He seems to have this multiplier effect on everyone else.
   24. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:09 PM (#2768500)
It would be kinda cool if the Celtics held the Hawks to under 60 points.
   25. Third True Outcome Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:09 PM (#2768501)
It's all his intangibles, kevin!
   26. Third True Outcome Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:10 PM (#2768502)
I do like that the Celtics have their scrub lineup in in the 4th quarter of a game 7.
   27. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:13 PM (#2768504)
It's all his intangibles, kevin!

That's Pedroia. Ellsbury has the ex-tangibles!
   28. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:14 PM (#2768506)
What an atrocious bunt.
   29. Third True Outcome Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:15 PM (#2768508)
You're saying his ex-girlfriends make the Sox better?
   30. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:30 PM (#2768518)
Solid start from Lester, especially if he can go one more inning.
   31. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:31 PM (#2768520)
Pitch count is at 94, so I don't know if he'll start the 6th or not. I guess that's kind of borderline.
   32. konaforever Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:38 PM (#2768525)
Did I say I hated the Celtics on Friday? I meant I love them.
   33. konaforever Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:39 PM (#2768526)
Oh, yeah, and our starting pitching rocks. Not so much middle relief.
   34. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:43 PM (#2768530)
0-2 home run, pretty lame.
   35. Mattbert Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:47 PM (#2768531)
So was Varitek standing up for that 0-2 fastball that Pena jacked out?
   36. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 03:49 PM (#2768535)
Still a very good outing.
   37. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:05 PM (#2768543)
I agree, Dan. Solid outing by Lester, He seems to be finding his major league groove, right around the same time Buchholz seems to be.

Awesome.
   38. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:08 PM (#2768547)
For some reason, this doesn't feel like a close game to me, even though it really is only a 3 run margin.
   39. John DiFool2 Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:08 PM (#2768548)
Manny D had him set up for the high heat, and he and Tek feed the batter a hittable pitch on the outer half...
   40. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:09 PM (#2768550)
Herr Bartlett. I hear you German is quite good. Your French ,too.

Hands up!!
   41. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:12 PM (#2768555)
Why does Iwamura hit so well against us?! Why does MDC suck so much?!
   42. John DiFool2 Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:12 PM (#2768556)
That was not encouraging.
   43. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:13 PM (#2768557)
Jesus, Iwamura could not have placed that ball any better.

What, now Okajima is going to pitch for 5 outs??
   44. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:13 PM (#2768558)
Kind of annoying that Delcarmen can only seem to command his fastball.
   45. Mike Hampton's #1 Fan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:13 PM (#2768559)
I am increasingly uncomfortable with MDC in close games.
   46. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:14 PM (#2768561)
That Sullivan tire dude has ridiculous hair.
   47. konaforever Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:14 PM (#2768562)
DFA Timlin. Bring up Masterson for middle relief!
   48. Mattbert Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:14 PM (#2768563)
That would've been one of the best catches I've ever seen if Coco had come up with that ball. He didn't miss it by much.
   49. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:14 PM (#2768564)
Anybody else here think Hansen should be given a shot at Delcarmen's role?
   50. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:16 PM (#2768567)
Does anyone else have the A's-Rangers game on MLB.tv mosaic? Those retro uniforms are spiffy, they even have a yellow catcher's helmet on Suzuki.
   51. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:17 PM (#2768568)
Anybody else here think Hansen should be given a shot at Delcarmen's role?

I would like to see him take Timlin's roster spot on the ML club. Might as well get some MLB innings out of him while he's pitching well.
   52. Third True Outcome Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:17 PM (#2768569)
I'd rather see Hanson brought up than Masterson, as I think he could stay a starter. I agree that they should DFA Timlin, though, and see if Hanson can fill MDC's role.
   53. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:18 PM (#2768570)
Well, that sucked as well.
   54. John DiFool2 Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:18 PM (#2768571)
That 2nd AB was the key-they really should have had him K'ed there, but instead served up a gift.
   55. Mike Hampton's #1 Fan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:18 PM (#2768572)
####.
   56. John DiFool2 Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:19 PM (#2768573)
And that non-run in the previous inning after Drew got to 3rd with no outs also is looming large.
   57. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:19 PM (#2768574)
It's going to be tough to DFA Timlin. He's been such a warrior for so long.
   58. Mike Hampton's #1 Fan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:20 PM (#2768575)
That's somewhat more like it.
   59. Third True Outcome Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:23 PM (#2768580)
It's true, I don't think they'll DFA Timlin because of his service. I wouldn't mind seeing Lopez go either, but really I'm not sure if they'll shake up the 'pen too much.

On a semi-related note, it's been said before, but Okajima was one helluva find.
   60. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:23 PM (#2768582)
What a phenomenal signing Okajima was.
   61. John DiFool2 Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:23 PM (#2768583)
I think we all expected some regression from Oka this year, but now his ERA is 0.75.
   62. John DiFool2 Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:24 PM (#2768585)
As for Manny D, I'll just keep chanting "DIPS" over and over.
   63. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:24 PM (#2768586)
Crap. That's two cokes I owe today.
   64. Mike Hampton's #1 Fan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:24 PM (#2768587)
It's going to be tough to DFA Timlin. He's been such a warrior for so long.

Agreed. Even before he was on the Red Sox, I remember liking Timlin, back when he was Henke's set-up guy for the early '90s Blue Jays teams. I'll miss having him in baseball.
   65. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:24 PM (#2768588)
Not only does Okajima have a very low ERA, but his fastball looks like it has more life than last year I think. Or perhaps I am delusional.
   66. Third True Outcome Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:25 PM (#2768590)
Just shoot Coke over to Dan, kevin, as I parroted him a bit ago.
   67. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:25 PM (#2768591)
Criminy. Wheeler's been lights out.
   68. Third True Outcome Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:27 PM (#2768593)
Lights out, huh?
   69. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:27 PM (#2768594)
Who's lights out now, #####?
   70. Mattbert Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:28 PM (#2768597)
I played some Legion ball against Wheeler back in the day. He was a beast.
   71. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:29 PM (#2768598)
See. That's what I meant. Like: "Wheeler's lights are going out here."

Yeah, that's it. That's the ticket.
   72. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:30 PM (#2768600)
I guess I should keep pimping the Rays players?
   73. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:30 PM (#2768601)
Wheeler is the brother-in-law of one of the members of the RLPA (the OOTP-based league that started from BTF of which I am also a member).
   74. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:34 PM (#2768607)
An RBI single here from Drew would be huge. No time like the present to remember how to hit a line drive, J.D.!
   75. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:34 PM (#2768608)
Double!

That insurance run by Youks looms large. The Rays might be reluctant to use their best relievers now.
   76. Third True Outcome Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:36 PM (#2768612)
Well, it wasn't a grounder, anyway.
   77. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:37 PM (#2768613)
Well, at least Drew didn't roll over on a grounder to second for once. That's progress.
   78. Mattbert Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:37 PM (#2768614)
Dan Wheeler is one of their best relievers.
   79. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:37 PM (#2768615)
Son of a #####.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD
   80. Third True Outcome Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:38 PM (#2768617)
Too slow again, Dan!
   81. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:40 PM (#2768618)
Dan Wheeler is one of their best relievers.

Sure. But, with 2 runs down, do they bring in their closer in the eighth? I don't think so and that will give the Sox a chance to pad their lead.
   82. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:40 PM (#2768619)
Frank Thomas in a 1968 A's uniform looks absurd.
   83. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:40 PM (#2768622)
Interesting matchup here. Longoria against Okajima. The stud against the illusionist.
   84. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:41 PM (#2768624)
Wheeler is the type that they'd likely use for 2 innings, no?
   85. Mattbert Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:42 PM (#2768626)
Sure. But, with 2 runs down, do they bring in their closer in the eighth? I don't think so and that will give the Sox a chance to pad their lead.

Regardless, I don't think they do that with Percy at this stage of his career. Fair point, though. Madden might not be as aggressive with his bullpen overall.
   86. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:44 PM (#2768629)
HINSKE gets a bunt single?
   87. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:44 PM (#2768630)
I can't believe that stayed fair.
   88. Mike Hampton's #1 Fan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:45 PM (#2768631)
Where was this non-sucky Hinske last year?
   89. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:45 PM (#2768632)
I'm not watching. Is Papelbon warming?
   90. Mattbert Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:46 PM (#2768634)
Wheeler is the type that they'd likely use for 2 innings, no?

Yes. He goes more than 1 almost as often as not.
   91. Mike Hampton's #1 Fan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:46 PM (#2768636)
Paps' K:BB ratio this year is just absurd.
   92. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:49 PM (#2768639)
You know, as much as I would have loved to have seen what Papelbon could have done as a starter, there is something to be said for have a closer that's overqualified to be a relief pitcher.
   93. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:50 PM (#2768640)
for having*
   94. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:50 PM (#2768644)
Pwned.
   95. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:52 PM (#2768646)
Yes. He goes more than 1 almost as often as not.

Even that's OK though. He might not be as effective the second inning.
   96. Mike Hampton's #1 Fan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:53 PM (#2768652)
It's a little odd seeing a good Tampa Bay team. I mean, no offense to the Rays fans.
   97. Dan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:54 PM (#2768653)
Crawford really hasn't been impressive in left field at Fenway at all.
   98. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:54 PM (#2768655)
Lugo doubled?
   99. kevin Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:55 PM (#2768656)
See, Mattbert? No closer.
   100. Third True Outcome Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:56 PM (#2768657)
Must be a Lugo imposter, kevin. One who hasn't perfected his sucking yet.
