He just butchered the call right there.

Perceived bias with Chip doesn't bother me. Its all the aformentioned nonsense. Calling a routine fly like its a 900 foot blast onto the interstate, raising his voice on Upton "gliding" to a routine catch, etc. etc. The cadence is all wrong.

Why do all network announcers suck?

Why are these TBS guys acting like the series is over?

Us southren boys got to stick together.

Chip Carey got a job cause his name is Carey - he is a talentless #### who should be shot.

I don't think he's as awful as everyone's making it seem.

Then whatever you're thinking with isn't working right. :)

Seriously, even leaving aside the seeming lack of objectivity, he's just awful at calling the game. Sounds like some guy that usually announces for tennis and got pressed into duty.

The Sox bullpen is now well rested and so are the bats, it's Go Time tomorrow

The easiest way to get a job in broadcasting is have the last name Carey or the last name Buck.

I'm with J. Sosa... or at least, I wouldn't complain as much about Chip if he was a competent announcer (another example: one of the Rays "driving" a popup in game 2), despite his bias. It would be annoying and frustrating when the Sox struggled, for sure, but even Red Sox wins are painful to listen to when he's in the booth, just by the jaw-dropping incompetence as a describer of the sport.

Yes, because the Tampa teams against which Wakefield primarily compiled that 19-5 record are so similar to this one.

That's a high bar, but I can't recall anyone worse. And I just heard Joe Buck a few days ago.

Wakefield will make it interesting

re: 303 I'm not sure if that's tongue in cheek or not, but either way, I would posit that there is a sliding scale of suckitude, similar to the defensive spectrum.

If I were to assign a value to Chip, it would be something along the lines of Jose Vidro at DH.

He brings nothing to the table. Buck, well, at least Buck would probably understand why Longoria isn't playing the shift with a runner on second against Ortiz.

Wow, the Red Sox haven't taken a beatdown like this in the playoffs in a while.

And in the bottom of the 9th, they're finally stating that the series isn't over. That's surprising; from the way Caray calls it, I was under the impression that they'd won the first and last World Series ever, as well as every Olympic medal and three consecutive Super Bowls.

as a Yankee fan I've long thought claims of bias either for or against either the Sox or the Yanks are misguided: the media is quick to praise Sox/Yanks when they do well and equally eager to savage them when they look bad. your team is the story, which pisses other teams off; but the story by no means need be a positive one. think of your team as a presidential candidate, and you'll get the gist....

I do have to say it does feel like we're worse off than down 1-2.

Rays win. Tell your friends/

see, he thought it was game 7! can't blame him for the excitement now....

And now he momentarily forgets which game this was.

Baldeli said his brother gets allergies and can't see him play much. Wow, Baldeli's are bubble babies.

Have I mentioned that Chip's very voice annoys me?

Its like he's a 12 year old kid concentrating on trying to make his tone deeper.

Anyways, I agree that it feels worse than 1-2 down. I was pretty bummed after game two because I felt like Tito flushed a game down the toilet the team had no business being in.

I don't know what's happened to Tito. The thing I liked best about him in the postseason was that he always tried to win the game in front of him. No Pinellaesque pulling Zambrano to save him for his next start, etc.

But its like he's asleep at the wheel. I don't understand.

This definitely feels much worse than 1-2. If Wake can pull out a win tomorrow - and look, if Lester can get beaten around, Wakefield can dazzle in a big game - I think the ship will have righted itself, as I'd never thought we could sweep at Fenway. But having Lester lose convincingly after that long game 2 has made me physically ill.

I didn't object to Francona's calls today - Cora/Lowrie splits are rather convincing, Byrd was in a game that we were statistically very out of (even if it felt close at Fenway), and I'm just assuming Sean Casey has leprosy or something - but the bullpen management in 2 was absolutely unbelievable. I'd just assumed that his regular season mistakes would disappear in the playoffs, as they always have before, but we lost a very winnable game because of his loyalty to Beckett and Timlin, as well as his refusal to stretch anyone out even with the off day.
