Have they said yet what time they expect this game to get underway?
   2. Jim Wisinski Posted: October 05, 2008 at 04:28 PM (#2969303)
TBS' bottom line shows it as 4:40.
   3. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 04:32 PM (#2969308)
Thanks, Jim. What do you think of Baldelli batting 8th instead of 6th?
   4. Bowling Baseball Fan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 04:47 PM (#2969321)
Go Rays
   5. Jim Wisinski Posted: October 05, 2008 at 04:50 PM (#2969324)
I wasn't aware of it until Reynolds just mentioned it but Danks is better against righties, so the Baldelli think is kinda strange. It's like a concession to the fact that Danks is better against RHB, yet in that case it would make more sense to put Gross in.
   6. Jim Wisinski Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:07 PM (#2969333)
Nice start, would be better to get a little more from those innings but that's tough against Danks.
   7. Jim Wisinski Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:10 PM (#2969336)
That is one fat pigeon.
   8. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:11 PM (#2969339)
98? Not sure I believe that.
   9. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:12 PM (#2969340)
Jim Thome is now Darrell Evans.

Work the count and hit a cripple.

Can't hit a good fastball unless sitting dead red.

That was Darrell the last few years. Still a solid player. But very "pitchable"

As Garza proves my "theory"
   10. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:13 PM (#2969341)
Holy ####, pitch f/x says it was 98.8. Garza appears to be extra amped up for the playoffs.
   11. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:13 PM (#2969342)
I am trying to see how Matt Garza does NOT win 150 games in the majors.

Good fastball. Clean motion.

Boy's got the basics. The Twins are daft.
   12. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:15 PM (#2969345)
That is one stubborn pigeon....
   13. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:17 PM (#2969348)
Harveys, am I the only one who thinks it was indefensible to start Suppan if Gallardo was going to pitch anyway? There didn't seem to be much agreement with me in the chatter for that game.
   14. Jim Wisinski Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:20 PM (#2969351)
Harveys, he's a slight head case, let's his emotions get out of hand on the mound at times. He has been much better though since that incident in Texas, they hooked him up with a sports psychologist and he hasn't had any major problems since then.

He does have tons of potential though, I'm so glad he's pitching in this game. He doesn't have the game to game consistency of Shields, hence the inferior season overall, but this game might take a great performance from the starter to win and he has the best chance out of anyone on the staff to go seven or more shutout innings at any given time.

Jim:

Bob Welch had a 97 mph heater and a drunk and he managed.

If you have talent an organization with a plan it can work for everyone.

Ok, that was a dumb walk

Does Garza wear hearing aids? There's something in each of his ears, but earplugs seem unlikely.
   17. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:31 PM (#2969363)
Juan Uribe has such a crazy swing he can hit great pitches.

Of course, he misses many of the "easy ones".

If he was on my team I would have to watch games with a cold compress on my forehead.
   18. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:33 PM (#2969364)
Dan;

I would have started McClung. But when the offense scores 2 runs it"s pretty irrelevant.

Guys never woke up at the plate.

Sigh....
   19. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:34 PM (#2969366)
The Sox dress in pajamas.

How can anyone root for this team??
   20. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:35 PM (#2969367)
I think Matt wears ear plugs so he doesn't hear any comments about that schnozz.
   21. Jim Wisinski Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:36 PM (#2969368)

That may have been a problem with the Twins. Reportedly they were somewhat tired of dealing with Garza's issues and were more willing to give him up than they otherwise would have been. Their loss though.

Maybe they should make t-shirts. "We traded away Matt Garza and all we got was this .740 OPS outfielder (plus a crappy middle infielder)"
   22. Repoz Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:48 PM (#2969376)
Matt Garza looks like a very disturbed version of Touch Connors.
   23. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:51 PM (#2969382)
Sitting dead red
   24. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:53 PM (#2969384)
Garza got squeezed on that pitch to Konerko.

Need an umpire czar. The strike zones this offseason stink
   25. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 05, 2008 at 05:56 PM (#2969385)
If you can hit the outside with a slider it's an easy DP
   26. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 05, 2008 at 06:00 PM (#2969388)
Slice job. Ouch
   27. Jim Wisinski Posted: October 05, 2008 at 06:01 PM (#2969390)
Guess Garza finally accepted that he ought to throw something besides a freaking fastball every so often.
   28. Lassus Posted: October 05, 2008 at 06:46 PM (#2969406)
What the hell is all that crap about with Griffey? Congratulations, because you suck so bad and you can't field or run, we're taking you out in the 6th inning.
   29. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 06:47 PM (#2969407)
That was some kind of a play by Longoria.
   30. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 06:48 PM (#2969410)
Followed by a great play by Carlos Peña.
   31. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 06:50 PM (#2969411)
Iwamura fails to handle a lot of throws...
   32. kevin Posted: October 05, 2008 at 06:51 PM (#2969413)
Garza looks like he's losing his poise.
   33. kevin Posted: October 05, 2008 at 06:58 PM (#2969419)
Got him.
   34. Gamingboy Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:00 PM (#2969422)
It's a game again. What a wallop.
   35. The Milton Bradley Effect (Voxter) Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:00 PM (#2969424)
I knew there was power in that bat.
   36. kevin Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:00 PM (#2969425)
####.
   37. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:03 PM (#2969429)
Incredibly cranked for a guy with a torn labrum.
   38. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:16 PM (#2969437)
Trever Miller: Tampa Bay's very own Javier Lopez.
   39. Mike Webber Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:19 PM (#2969439)
Did Harold R just say that Chad Bradford is not known for getting DPs?
Okay.
   40. Mike Webber Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:22 PM (#2969442)
I'd bring Bradford back for the 8th - he just threw 7 pitches.
   41. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:23 PM (#2969443)
Concur.
   42. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:24 PM (#2969446)
Generous outside corner here.
   43. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:26 PM (#2969449)
That was...odd....
   44. ChadBradfordWannabe Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:33 PM (#2969469)
who's this guy? He looks nasty....
   45. ChadBradfordWannabe Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:38 PM (#2969488)
Best active postseason pitcher. TBS said so....LOL.

Actually, that's the way I interpreted it.
   46. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: October 05, 2008 at 07:44 PM (#2969509)
Why no PH? Floyd? Hinske?
   47. tfbg9 Posted: October 06, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2971965)
Congrats Rays fans. Hope we get to play your squad.

Tough luck, White Sox guys. Get 'em next year.
