It's a day game after a night game...the weather is very hot...the Phillies have their scrubs playing at 3B and Catcher, and the Expos have somebody named "Vento" in the lineup.

Rollins grounds out on the first pitch...I guess since Hernandez never gets tired anyway, Rollins has no reason to even try to take pitches.

Anyone watching this game? I can't, really.

I'm listening. Not sounding good for the Phils. So far it looks like they're eager to get back to the nice cool dugout.
   4. Ned Flanders Fields Posted: May 31, 2006 at 01:30 PM (#2045547)
Okay, is Aaron Rowand a Philly god yet?
   5. DK near DC Posted: May 31, 2006 at 01:49 PM (#2045568)
Sori goes deep again!
   6. Ned Flanders Fields Posted: May 31, 2006 at 01:58 PM (#2045579)
If Soriano keeps it up for another 5-6 years, he's got a shot at the Hall. 10 years, and he may be a shoo-in.
   7. DK near DC Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:07 PM (#2045591)
if he keeps it up.

Livan pitched a 5 pitch 4th.. the phillies are anxious to get away.
   8. Harris Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:07 PM (#2045592)
I can't watch at work. :(
Gameday is so irritating as well. It shows Bobby Abreu flying out to Byrd PAST THE WALL (and since Marlon Byrd is 5'10" with high heels on I'm pretty sure he didn't bring one back).
   9. DK near DC Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:11 PM (#2045600)
please stop putting bad images in my head!
   10. Harris Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:13 PM (#2045603)
how bad is the bottom of the phillies lineup:
Nunez-Fasano-Lidle.
I think a 14 y.o. pitcher might be able to get them 1-2-3.
   11. Harris Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:17 PM (#2045612)
notice I did not include Delucci in my little mini-rant about the sadness of the lineup.
   12. DK near DC Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:17 PM (#2045613)
Dellucci, however..

Is Dellucci still going out with that Baywatch babe?
   13. DK near DC Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:31 PM (#2045629)
hmm, it was Gena Lee Nolin, and from my research, they have broken up a long time ago, before her sex tape.
   14. Ned Flanders Fields Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:32 PM (#2045632)
By the way, according to the radio broadcast, Byrd did bring one back.
   15. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:44 PM (#2045647)
Can't Dellucci play third? Why are we subjected to this Nunez character?

We already had to put up with TBAG...if this is TGAN (the good Abraham Nunez), imagine how bad the other one must be.
   16. Harris Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:44 PM (#2045649)
how is it possible that in a marlon byrd for endy chavez the phillies lost on both ends?

Byrd goes an interdivisional team and performs adequately and almost always above average against his old team.

Chavez come to the phillies and is a complete liabilty at the plate (ooh another fly ball to the warning track - and not in a SF situation either) and on the base paths (couldn't score from second on a single ever).

Chavez then goes to an interdivisional team and is a frequent catalyst for late game rallies.

arrggh.
   17. Harris Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:46 PM (#2045650)
isn't TBAN serving a minor-league suspension for 'roid abuse?
   18. Harris Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:48 PM (#2045652)
and then the implosion started.
   19. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:49 PM (#2045654)
It seems like both Marlons improved greatly upon going to the Expos. Either that or they just look better by comparison with the rest of the Expos lineup.
   20. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:50 PM (#2045656)
Was that an intentional walk to Vento?

It makes no sense to walk somebody to get to the pitcher when there are 0 outs. Especially if a leadoff hitter other than Rollins is coming up after the pitcher.
   21. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:54 PM (#2045663)
Boy, the people at philliesphans.com/phorum get mad about every single pitching change or lack of a pitching change that Charlie Manuel ever makes or decides not to make. I wouldn't have expected that, his moves seem pretty normal to me.
   22. Harris Posted: May 31, 2006 at 02:55 PM (#2045665)
I always thought Marlon Anderson was underrated. He was an above average second baseman who got no love.
   23. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: May 31, 2006 at 03:00 PM (#2045671)
I think Nunez is proving to be TEWAN (the even worse Abe Nunez). Master of the pop up bunt.
   24. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: May 31, 2006 at 03:04 PM (#2045678)
How hard is it to hit a sacrifice bunt? If TEWAN had done it, Dellucci would have scored on the hit by the red-hot Sal Fasano.
   25. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: May 31, 2006 at 03:06 PM (#2045680)
Victory? No.

2 outs for JRoll
   26. Harris Posted: May 31, 2006 at 03:07 PM (#2045682)
the best Sac bunter on the phils is david bell. that is so sad.
   27. Harris Posted: May 31, 2006 at 03:08 PM (#2045685)
I thought Rollins might've gotten out of his funk, but GIDPs on back to back days (including a 5-2-3) have me wondering.
   28. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: May 31, 2006 at 03:14 PM (#2045694)
ARGH

JRoll is basically an element of the bottom of our lineup. Starting with the game's second at-bat, you could look at the lineup as:

Utley
Abreu
Burrell
Howard
Rowand
Bell/Nunez
Catcher
Pitcher
Rollins

We have 4 great hitters, 2 okay hitters (1 okay hitter today), and then three guys who never get on base (four guys who never get on base, including Nunez).

Stanton ?!?!?!?! You've got to be kidding me.
   30. DK near DC Posted: May 31, 2006 at 03:34 PM (#2045720)
Well, I'll be damned..
   31. mgl Posted: May 31, 2006 at 03:39 PM (#2045722)
Not a Philly fan, but I just happened to watch the game today. Your manager (Manuel) is the worst manager in baseball. There is no excuse for having 3 lefties in a row. No excuse at all. And he of course should have pinch ran for Fasano when he was on first last inning. Also, I am not sure that he should not have bat Burrell rather than Victorino, even versus the righty pitcher. Every time I watch the Phillies he appears to make several mistakes per game. That AB by Rollins was horrible also. He takes a 3-0 pitch right down the middle (you don't take pitches with runners in scoring position and 2 outs), and then had several lame swings at borderline pitches (and yes he stands too close to the plate), especially versus Livan who likes to throw that "backup" fastball inside to the lefties.
   32. DK near DC Posted: May 31, 2006 at 03:46 PM (#2045729)
Yeah, but how about the Nats?
   33. chris p Posted: May 31, 2006 at 03:48 PM (#2045732)
but I just happened to watch the game today.

shouldn't you be watching the houston-st louis game?
   34. mgl Posted: May 31, 2006 at 03:52 PM (#2045741)
nah
   35. mgl Posted: May 31, 2006 at 03:55 PM (#2045745)
sorry, but Phillies deserve to lose with those 3 lefties in a row.
   36. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: May 31, 2006 at 04:26 PM (#2045780)
sorry, but Phillies Charlie Manuel deserves to lose with those 3 lefties in a row.
   37. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: May 31, 2006 at 04:31 PM (#2045791)
Manuel may be a terrible manager, but the real reason he was hired was to get Jim Thome to sign here. So you see, he's essential to the 2006 Phillies' success.

Took my two-year-old son to this game today (with free company tickets). It was his first game, and a very good day. He just learned the word "baseball", so it featured prominently in today's word list.
