Cubs complete coaching staff with [Gerald] Perry

The Cubs have hired Gerald Perry as their hitting coach.

Here’s the most hopeful part:

Piniella and Perry were together in Seattle from 2000-02, and Perry said he was looking forward to being reunited with the manager. In Perry’s first season as the Mariners’ hitting coach, the team set a club record in walks (775). In 2001, Seattle led the Major Leagues in on-base percentage (.360) and runs scored (927) while leading the AL with a .288 batting average. During his three-year stint as Seattle’s hitting coach, the Mariners led the Majors in on-base percentage (.357) and walks (2,018) and led the AL in batting (.278) and runs (2,648).

Then again, I suppose it helps to have guys like Alex Rodriguez, Edgar Martinez, John Olerud, and Ichiro on your roster too.

Thanks to retro-shiite
