Of note, certain stretches of futility are represented multiple times and/or on multiple lists as the various streaks tend to overlap each other.  The key to the 1968 team was a 1-0 eleven-inning loss to the Braves followed by three consecutive scoreless games against St. Louis (1-0, 4-0, and 1-0.) Interestingly, the 1906 team that shows up so many times actually went 6-2 over eight games, scoring just nine runs but allowing only 5 including four 1-0 victories.  This year’s team has not been as fortunate.

We're going to kick that 9-day record's ass today.

Right you were. Three or less tomorrow earns sole posession of the ten-day mark. Roll on, Dusty.

We did cut it closer than I expected. With Maddux going tomorrow, I suspect we'll see the offense drop back off so as not to not waste a good start. Chris Young's pretty tough as well.

Calling it 2-1 San Diego.

Another new franchise mark tonight, this time the ten-game record. We need to score two or less against Jason Schmidt and the Giants tomorrow for sole posession of the eleven-game record. On the brightside, at least we can be sure this bunch is steroid-free. I mean, they've got to be, right?

I didnt realize it was that bad!

Wow, it just got worse. This team is pulling away from the pack, tonight taking sole posession of the eleven-game record and setting a new ten game mark as well. It occurs to me that at some point its just going to be "lowest scoring season in franchise history" and that will be the end of it.

Two or less tomorrow for sole posession of the twelve-game mark.

It's worse. The papers today revealed:

"The Cubs entered Tuesday having finished a 10-game stretch in which they scored a total of 12 runs. According to the Elias stats service, since the end of the 1972 season, only the 2004 Montreal Expos have gone through such a stretch, and they did it twice.

In 1972, the Milwaukee Brewers and California Angels both scored as few as 12 runs over a 10-game stretch."

I don't know where Tuesday's game put them (13 runs in 11 games), but it can't be great.

For the record, when stretched to 11 games, neither the '04 Expos, '72 Brewers, nor '72 Angels matched the Cubs 13 runs -- all had more.

Finally, mercifully, the Cubs put a stop to my daily updates of this list. Nonetheless, it blows my mind to look up and down the list and see the 2006 Cubs handily defeat all those other awful Cub teams including a lot of dead-ball teams. It was a two week perfect storm of a flawed roster, injured superstar, terrible manager, and bad luck. May it never happen again.
