The Dominican Johnny Allison?

The Dominican Johnny Allison?

Allison or Callison? ;)

Probably Callison, their OPS+/PA lines look roughly similar. Alou has an extra season of PA's and was a bit less consistent but both ended up with 113-114 OPS+'s.

So who is this:

269 HR - 1656 RBI - .292- .328 - .406 - 107 OPS+

That would be Felipe, Jesus and Matty altogether, and (t)he(y) wouldn't make my ballot. Not that 5,094 hits wouldn't make you look twice and those 17,000 AB + BB would be attractive to career voters. But .328 and a corner guy at 107? No way.

But the question is how far ahead of Felipe + Jesus + Matty does Felipe rate by himself? Less bulk, better numbers.

206-852-.286-.328-.433-114

114 is better than 107 but there's still that .328. By season:

143-40-33-28-27-18-17-13-8-(4 years < 100) = 13 years of 100 games or more, 9/13 of > 100 OPS+

Callison, meanwhile:

226-840-.264-.331-.441-114, both Callison and Felipe in approx. 7300 AB + BB

140-35-29-26-19-19-9-9-9-(2 years < 100) = 11 years of 100 games, 9/11 of > 100 OPS+, obviously Callison was a little more durable in-season, though he also had one season of 99 games and another of 92

Callison's 100 game seasons were age 22-32, Felipe's were age 25-37. Callison played almost 1800 games in the OF, 1600 of them in RF. Alou also played mostly RF (1500 games) but also 400 at 1B. They also both had terrible SB pct: Callison 74-51 and Alou 107-67. Of course, Alou BR and Callison BL but both TR. Similar players but not. Neither is top 100 on my list, but useful players in their day. But I would take Bob Allison and his shorter career over either one.

Or do you mean Bob Allison? Bob is better, at least in my world, where a bit of a peak is better rather than the 500 extra games it took Felipe to get to similar numbers:

Allison 256-797-.255-.358-.471-126 in 1541 G and 5827 AB + BB
Felipe 206-852-.286-.328-.433-114 in 2082 G and 8191 AB + BB

Oops Felipe is 7300 AB, Callison closer to 7300 PA. That would also make Callison look a little better than Felipe. Felipe used up about 300 more outs (Allison about 1000 fewer than Felipe).
