It is much more difficult for an outfielder to go far on a fielding legacy. Ashburn is an example, but
- he worked the Phillies games for more than 30 years before they elected him
- sabrmetrics and Rickey Henderson's example moved the "leadoff model" in his direction, away from Aparicio. I mean Rickey's walks not his steals (Aparicio had the steals). Ashburn's speed was valuable but mainly for things other than steals.

How to get into the Hall of Fame?
- get some big hits in the World Series, although it will take a lot to be the hero of the 1961 upset of the Yankees a la Mazeroski
- have a good year and then a good Series in the 1962 upset of the Yankees
- get just one more hit or fly or run at the right time and have a good Series in the 1964 upset of the Yankees
He doesn't need all three; the second and third will be enough.
It was a good team with close calls in '62 and '64. Unfortunately, Pinson was better in '63 and '65.
Which Yankee or BoSox do you feel doesn't belong in the HOF?
My only thoughts are would those stats be good enough in large market cities. Would the sports writers be more apt to vote for a guy with pretty good numbers.
Cincinnati had the Big Red Machine and a few World Championships , before that just 1961 World Series vs NY ; LOST IN 5, Pinson was 2- 22 batted 091, not the best to gain national recongition.
Also many people i talked too cannot believe Frank Robinson actually played 10 YEARS (1956-65 ) in Cincinnati before being traded to Baltimore in 66. Cincinnati was a very small market in 60s. Not much pub in those days..
Please dont give up on your dads quest to the HALL !! You know im not , even on this thread i will continue spreading Vada Pinsons lagacy !!
I would like to get your email sometime , i will give you mine. Thanks.
