I'm a big fan of Lincecum, but if I tried to model myself after him, I would certainly break or tear something.

hey CBW, great work as always. I just have a general question for you, based on the Parker quote above: what would you consider "undersized"? I was watching the Padres/Mets game last night, and the Mets announcers more than once referred to Jake Peavy as "undersized" (or "not all that big," or something). And I thought, huh? I can understand thinking of Lincecum or Pedro as "undersized", but Peavy? What does that make Mussina, or even Maddux? I was just wondering if there was some kind of standard you in the biz like to use. Obviously you would prefer big, lean, athletic guys, but where do you draw the line?

Ya know, I never thought of Peavy as "undersized." I guess he is listed at 6'1", but undersized? I don't even know how to even approach that question cuz, yeah, like you said, you prefer the leaner, bigger guy (all other things being equal.....I just don't discriminate if the dude can throw the shyt out of it I guess.

RHP Welker hides the ball pretty well and has a short, efficient arm action along with a 92-93mph fastball and decent slider. I don't see why he couldn't be at least a good middle reliever, maybe more.

Bascom was the Orioles 4th round pick from the Univ. of Central Fl. Supposed to have a good arm, but he didn't play last year because of an injury.

Bascom has a knee problem that led the Padres to void his contract after they took him in the '06 draft. Average fastball with sink, other stuff is fringy. Because he'd signed, he couldn't play for UCF again (gotta love the NCAA). I'm glad he got a second shot.

I think you guys know what I have to say about that one....I don't want to pile on and make the Pirates situation worse, but it;s hard not to. Not only is this the wrong selection, but this is the wrong diagnosis.
