Individual people are not predictible. Conditions under which people act—or play—can never be repeated nor perfectly controlled. Give it up; baseball will never fit under a microscope, because it is played by humans and not by objects.

To steal and somewhat manipulate a nice phrase from an awful source, I stand astride baseball yelling “stop” to sabremetrics.
