Grew up in South Jersey (Mullica Hill) during the later days of Schmidt and Carlton. Pulled for the Phils my whole life, just sucks that I have faint memories of the 80 season, and a few better ones of 83. Unfortunately I recall all the times with Don Carman, Von Hayes, and John Russell.
In the 90’s the Phils were terrible except for the anomalous 1993 year. Every year you could quit caring by about July. Now the team is perpetually good enough to wait until the last week of the season for elimination. The ‘07 Phils look just like every other team of the past 6 years. Enough talent to win 85 games and miss the playoffs by about 2-5 games.
The starting pitching appears to be gelling finally, and the clutch hitting is coming around too, but how long will it last?
Interesting tidbit- I work in the same company as Dial - Mets fans are so funny to listen to in person. They’re just as demented in real life.
