Favorite Baseball Stuff

Wrigley Field; June 22, 1984 when my wife & I took our 6 month old son to his first game (at Shea), the way the crowd made the stadium shake; Opening Day of ‘83, when Tom Seaver returned from exile & the Mets (though still a bad team) beat Steve Carlton & the Phillies (Seaver & Doug Sisk combining for the shutout); or the game in ‘81 when Seaver came in with the Reds, beat the Mets, and all the fans went home happy, ‘cuz if you had to choose between rooting for an abominable Mets team or the greatest pitcher they’d ever produced, well, it was a pretty easy choice, eh?  Or seeing Rusty Staub hit a couple of long flies just foul down the right field line and thinking, you know, he’s just getting the range on this guy, and sure enough, he hits the next one just fair for a home run.  Also, just holding a baseball is really neat.

Bio

Aged, not infirm, almost fluent in at least one language, comfortable, not drinking too much, irregular exercise at the gym 1 to 6 days a week, hate the dh & inter-league play, play tennis when I get a chance, living in constant state of anticipation of my next trip to Ireland.  Last football game watched: 1979, SUNY-Albany beats heavily-favored Hamilton College 9-7, on last-second 40+ yard field goal by new kicker, soccer player making his first competitive place kick attempt ever.  Realized football could only go downhill from there so gave up following it.  Two kids, both boys, both in their 20s.  Married once, realized “this is insane, don’t ever do that again.” So I haven’t.  Gotten married again, that is.  That would be bigamy.
