Bio

Currently a freelance writer and broadcaster, Bruce Markusen worked at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY, from 1994 to 2004. In his various capacities at the Hall of Fame, he wrote numerous articles for publication, helped edit the Hall of Fame’s Yearbook and quarterly newsletter, narrated Hall of Fame video productions, and interviewed most of the current living Hall of Famers.

A native of Bronxville, NY, Markusen has written four books on baseball. His first book, Baseball’s Last Dynasty: Charlie Finley’s Oakland A’s, won the Seymour Award from the Society for American Baseball Research as the best baseball book of 1998. A newly revised and expanded edition of the book, titled A Baseball Dynasty: Charlie Finley’s Swingin’ A’s, was released in December of 2002. His second book, Roberto Clemente: The Great One, was also published in 1998. A third book, The Orlando Cepeda Story, was released in 2001. Markusen also has two books scheduled for release this fall: Ted Williams: A Biography; and a book in the genre of young adult horror, entitled Haunted House of the Vampire.

Markusen is the regularly featured co-host of Heart of the Order: Old School Baseball Talk on MLB Radio, heard each Thursday at 12:00 p.m. Eastern. He also writes a regular internet column, “Cooperstown Confidential,” which is featured on a number of web sites.

Bruce and his wife, Sue, reside in Cooperstown, NY.
