If I remember my free agent compensation rules correctly, those finishing with picks in the bottom half have to surrender a 1st-round pick if they sign a Type A free agent, whereas those finishing with picks in the top half only have to surrender a 2nd-round pick. Is this going to be the case for the winner and loser of a coin flip?

There might not be any draft pick compensation at all this year....

David Price is the big pitcher going into the season. Big tall lefty again.

Price, Schmidt, Wieters, Doolittle, Frazier, Roemer, Arencibia, Savery, St. Clair, among others cap off a very talententd incoming junior class. Additionally, the prep class is looking very good too. This draft has a chance to be the best in at least the last 5 drafts.

Tiebreaker in the draft order is prior-year record, then (if still tied) the year before that. So the Dodgers should have pick 22 and the Padres 23, for example.

That's trash that the White Sox and Angels have to draft behind the Dodgers, Padres, and Cardinals. If they're going to let the shittier teams in the playoffs, then they ought to pay for that with their draft pick.

Other draft tidbits from my observations and what ive heard

Josh Horton has been a stud since HS. And Godot, if its Horton youre talking about he was a Soph last year. Solid crop of college SSs next year... Darwin Barney (Ore St), Horton (UNC), Zach Cozart (Ole Miss), Brian Friday (Rice), Frazier (Rutgers) and someone im forgetting right now.

Justin Jackson (From Cam Maybins HS) is considered the best pure HS SS

Matt Mangini (ex NC St, now OK St) tailed off in the 2nd half last year but hes a big athletic 3b who can hit.

Joe Savery (Rice) and Sean Doolittle (UVA) get grouped together as good 1b/LHPs. Both will likely pitch in the pros. Saverys had some injury issues but none pitching related IIRC.

Damon Sublett is a star 2b and closer at Wichita St. Really dominant on both sides of the ball, but i dont know what his tools are like (other than obviously a plus arm). Was injured some last year too.

Tennessees JP Arencibia is a top college catcher. Coll of Charlestons Alex Garabedian (a Miami transfer) was a big C prospect out of HS, is really strong and has good power (though it was masked last year).

GaTech CF Danny Payne is sorta Lenny Dykstra-esque. Small, fire-hydrant build, but good speed and surprising strength and power and goes all out all the time. This has lead to injuries though. Good arm too

UGA closer Josh Fields is 6-0 180 at best but can sit 96-98 and has dominated in college and on the Cape.

Andrew Brackman is the NC St basketball player. Was great on the mound as a freshman, hurt and bad last year. Huge wild card.

UNCs got some other good will-be juniors but i dont think the non-Horton ones are top prospects though they all have potential (Matt Spencer, Chad Flack, Reid Fronk, Benji Johnson, Seth Johnson)

Nick Schmidt (ark) is a lefty who can rack up Ks. Threw a no-hitter last year. Likely 1st rounder.

The best two-way prep player in the country is Louisiana's Chad Jones. He is the 23rd ranked football player in the country via Rivals. But baseball is his favorite sport by a large margin, and he will sign for first round money only. He's a lefty who can throw in the mid-90's.

Btw, my early pick for the "Evan Longoria of 2007" award goes to Todd Frazier, SS, Rutgers.

TempleUSox had him ranked as high as 14 as early as October of 2006, which is the highest I have seen him ranked anywhere. Frazier has been off to a hot start this year, and he'll probably end up getting drafted around 14, maybe even higher. I'm hoping the Dbacks sign Scherzer finally so they don't feel forced to take a pitcher with the 9th pick this year, and consider Frazier...
