Jay Rainville is actually out for the year after undergoing surgery to fix a nerve problem. Also, 1B Henry Ramirez of Beloit qualifies as a prospect much more than Garrett Jones at Rochester.

AAA Columbus: RHP Colter Bean, OF Melky Cabrera, 3B Eric Duncan, LHP Sean Henn
AA Trenton: RHP Tyler Clippard, RHP J. Brent Cox, RHP Jorge De Paula, 2B Kevin Howard, RHP Steven White
A Adv Tampa: OF Tim Battle, RHP Philip Hughes, RHP Brett Smith, 3B Marcos Vechionacci
A Charleston: C Jose Gil, SS C.J. Henry, OF Austin Jackson, RHP Rolando Japa

What no love for DeSalvo? Or Rasner for that matter. Both of them appear more likely to contribute to the Yankees than Henn.

Also, I wish people would stop listing Battle on their prospect lists. He has a good story and good power when he hits the ball - but he has struck out more times (317) than he's been on base in his minor league career (313).

Penn is a righty. That's picking nits, though.

For Baltimores Frederick team, the above mentioned Radhames Liz threw 5 innings, no runs, 13 ks. 4 pitchers combined to complete the no-hitter.

Chip Ambres is not a prospect. I have never heard of Valentino Arce. High Desert had some good talent this year, but this year they have nothing but roster filler.

Yankees:

AA: SS Ramiro Pena

A Adv.: CF Brent Gardner, SS Eduardo Nunez

A: RF Jose Tabata

DeSalvo was an inadvertent omission. Rasner's not that good a prospect, frankly, although I probably should have listed him. He really needs another pitch, because his basic repertoire isn't quite enough to get major league hitters out consistently.

Battle's still intriguing as a prospect, at least to me. He's still only 20, plays good defense, and hits the ball a long way. Yes, he has to make contact more frequently, but it's not as though he has no idea of the zone.

I knew Rainville was hurt, but he was still listed on the FSL roster, so I thought there was a chance he'd be back. Sanchez didn't do much in the rookie league a year ago, and was off to a slow start at Beloit, so I opted to take a wait-and-see approach before listing him. Garrett Jones didn't help himself a year ago, but his 2004 in New Britain (a tough place to hit) convinced me to leave him on the list for another year.

Man, I hope you're right Mike, b/c I haven't seen much evidence of this. Listing Bean as a prospect is pure nostalgia. He's no prospect.

I still like Henn.

Chris Stewart opened some eyes at AA Birmingham last year, putting up a .286/.341/.460 line as a catcher. However, it was his second go-round at AA. He's at AAA Charlotte this year.

I don't know how much of a prospect Casey Rogowski really is. He's been in the organization since 1999 and this is his first look at AAA. He's got good plate discipline, but he's never developed the power you'd expect from a guy his size.

Fair enough Mike. Rasner's Columbus debut was very impressive - 7.0 IP 3 H 1 ER 11/1 K/BB.

I suppose Battle is a little interesting, but if he got rung up 190+ times at low-A, how's he gonna do against better competition?

Mike, tell the Indians that P.J. Hiser is a prospect. Apparently dominating the Big East and posting a career slugging average over .600 doesn't merit more than part-time duty for Lake County. (Though, admittedly, he's already 24, lacks range, and doesn't have great discipline at the plate.)
   12. bhoov Posted: April 13, 2006 at 11:41 AM (#1960341)
For the White Sox Chris Getz is at AA Birmingham. A 2B out of Michigan with incredible plate discipline (214 AB/35BB/10SO at low A last year). He's skipping a level so we'll see if he's a real prospect this year.
   13. Mike Emeigh Posted: April 13, 2006 at 11:49 AM (#1960363)
Pena looks like a good-field, no-hit guy to me. The others were just misses on my part. (I did the Yankees late last night, so I'm not surprised at the number of misses there).

Valentino Arce is a middle infielder who hit .335 in the Arizona Rookie League a year ago. He's apprarently not highly regarded by KC, though. The guys in front of him at Burlington are 2B Josh Johnson and SS Chris McConnell, and both are probably better prospects.

He's not really a good prospect, because he is old for the level and doesn't have a position. But Lake County doesn't really have anyone else. I could have listed OF John Drennen, a sandwich pick a year ago, but I wasn't impressed with what he did a year ago at Burlington and from what I've heard he's a low-ceiling kind of guy. Nick Petrucci is a Grade C 3B prospect.

Agreed that he's not a good prospect, but I'm rooting for him. I'd stick Hiser in an outfield corner (he's got a strong arm and doesn't make many errors) and see if his range can be made adequate.

So, Joel Guzman has had starts at both first and left with Las Vegas (as well as DH) - was that (playing at first) just a response Loney or arethey going to move around and cross train him or what? Are they trying to bring down his trade value - they're doing a good job.

I think the start at 1B was a last-second thing after Loney was recalled; I'll have to check my detailed game data when I get home. He's been playing mostly in LF.

Also, 1B Henry Ramirez of Beloit

Except he's actually named Henry Sanchez.
   18. Der Komminsk-sar Posted: April 13, 2006 at 05:52 PM (#1961624)
Guzman started twice (I think) at first - his last few games were in LF, however.

How about Eduardo Nunez, SS, for the Yankees? I know that Pecota realy likes him, only 19 with some decent, but not great, numbers.
   20. Mike Emeigh Posted: April 13, 2006 at 09:44 PM (#1962091)
See above, #13. BA likes Nunez too (#6). He was just a miss on my part. The key for him is how much he'll hit, and when; he's already got a major-league quality arm and glove.
