Lakewood and Lexington were tied 1-1 in the 6th. In the 6th, Lakewood scored to go ahead 2-1. Then between the 6th and 7th inning, a deus ex machina (a bolt of lightning) apparently led the umpires to call a "rain delay" (it wasn't raining), and will probably call the game.

That would be the first "official" problem with the replacement umpires in the minors, I guess.

Yeah. The announcers were going on for a while about how lightning-in-the-distance was enough to cancel a college game, but if it's not raining a minor-league game doesn't get called until the lightning hits the field.

I'm not sure if I agree with the minor-league standard, but it certainly wasn't enforced here.

I can understand the college rule: I sure as heck don't want to be playing holding a lightning rod in my hands.

Delmarva at West Virginia is tied 1-1 in a lightning delay, too.

Given how many people died last week from severe storms in the Central US, I'm willing to cut the umps a break on this...

Rays prospect Jake McGee had a rough 1st and 5th inning, but had 8 k's and 5 groundball outs in 4.1 innings. Unfortuantly gave up 4 doubles and 4 earned runs as well. Everyone's favorite, Wade Davis, starts tomorrow night's home opener.

Steve Lerud did hit a homer tonight for Hickory, but his defensive work left something to be desired: 2 passed balls, and a catcher's interference call that led to the winning runs for Lake County.

Hickory committed six errors in the game.

Nick Adenhart: 6 IP, 1 ER, 2 hits, 3 BB, 5 K; he retired 13 in a row at one point. Cedar Rapids lost 2-1 to Beloit on a ninth-inning HR by Henry Sanchez off Richard Aldridge.

Toby Gardenhire (Ron's kid) played 3B for Beloit.

I wonder if he has any of the descendents of his dad's cat, who had 15 minutes courtesy of Bill James around 20 years ago.

I think there were ten more deaths today in Tennessee.

Andre ethier had a big day today. 4-5 2 doubles. most of the dodger hitting prospects had good days. the pitching prospects? eh, not so much. Orenduff, blake johnson and marlon arias all got lit up extremely hard.
