Leftover note from yesterday's games:

Savannah's Ofilio Castro hit for the cycle against Asheville (at McCormick Field, of course), delivering a single, two doubles, triple, and HR and driving in four runs in the Sand Gnats' 13-12 victory over the Tourists. Castro batted .261/.337/.362 a year ago with the same club - so we should perhaps say that he wasn't exactly a prime candidate to hit for the cycle.

Durham's 7th inning tonight, with Kevin Barry struggling to find the plate:

B.J. Upton walks.
With Delmon Young batting, B.J. Upton caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Brayan Pena to shortstop Tony Pena.
Delmon Young singles on a ground ball to second baseman Jonathan Schuerholz.
Elijah Dukes doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Michael Ryan. Delmon Young to 3rd.
Kevin Barry intentionally walks Kevin Witt.
Shawn Riggans called out on strikes.
Kevin Cash doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Michael Ryan. Delmon Young scores. Elijah Dukes scores. Kevin Witt to 3rd.

Barry had walked two guys in the sixth as well. I would gently suggest that trying to steal a base with your best hitters coming up and a guy who is having trouble finding the zone on the hill is not a particularly intelligent thing to be doing.

Hideo Nomo didn't pitch for Charlotte for some reason. Stephen Randolph got the start.

Brian Bogusevic's full-season debut wasn't too discouraging:

3 IP, 3 H, 3 K, 1 UER.

Vero Beach and Jupiter rained out.

It was not FPDG's night: Paulino del Guidice gave up 3 HR in 4 1/3 innings, allowing 5 ER overall.

Ben Julianel perfect through 5 for the Mudcats.

Jon Lester's AAA debut was short: 2 1/3 IP, 3 hits, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K. He threw 59 pitches.

For Tampa, sure, but in AAA you're supposed to be working on your skills, not win games.

Have I mentioned, by the way, that Pawtucket's offense is horrendous? All you probably need to know is that Ron Calloway has been hitting third.

The Paw Sox have scored, in five games, 3-1-1-0-0 runs.

Skills include knowing when and when not to run.

Twelve innings (and counting) into the Memphis/ New Orleans game, Junior Spivey is 0 for 6.

Tim "0 for 13 with 10 Ks" Moss was benched today for Reading.

Lakewood's Greg Golson is 1 for 19 so far, with a single and a walk.

I mentioned the other day on Anthony's blog that the Twins had moved Trevor Plouffe to 3B. Apparently that was just for one game; he's been at SS every other game.

Plouffe had three hits last night to raise his line to .250/.280/.292. Ft. Myers is 5-0.

Mike, this is awesome, thanks for posting these.

Haehnel pitched pretty well in his first start. How do you think he'll do in that role?

Also, any idea why Penn hasn't started yet for Ottawa?

milb.com was plugging a 10:35 am game today b/w Portland and New Britain but there's a catch ... that's actually tomorrow's game time. They've removed it from their multimedia schedule but haven't corrected the "actual" schedule yet.

Anybody see Barry in the game referenced above? If so, was he just have trouble locating his pitches or was their something more?
   16. RP Posted: April 11, 2006 at 11:24 AM (#1955107)
Brandon Erbe gave up a 2 run HR, but otherwise pitched well:
4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K

7 Ks and 1 BB in 4 IP is nice.

I think Penn is in extended ST because of forearm tightness or something. I hope it's not serious.

Penn's still in Florida; he had some shoulder stiffness in ST. They're going to wait until the weather warms up before sending him to Ottawa.

I didn't see it, but I had it on radio in the background and "watched" a bit on Gameday. He was all over the place.

Glad they are appreciated. It's not always easy to find the probables, especially for Left Coast games.

Dunedin and Lakeland are, however, under way.

barry's not real scouty (two average pitches and so-so control), but everytime i see him he's lights out. i kinda hoped he'd enter the rotation (which worked out late last season), to prep him for a swingman/long role in the bigs.

in light of the penn question, does anyone know why troy patton hasn't pitched yet for salem? or why jeremy slayden isn't on a full season roster?

I was so disappointed when I found out 'Dunedin' didn't rhyme with 'Gunga Dun'.

Bad news for Cub fans:

Brian Dopirak has a broken foot and will miss about six weeks.
