Ben Sheets's rehab start is being televised.

Charlotte is looking to improve on that 0.60 team ERA today. That won't last long once they get back to Knight's Castle, but for now it's pretty cool to see.

Sheets is on an 80-pitch limit; he's into the fourth and just threw #40.

Sheets gets two outs into the sixth, 75 pitches. 3 H, 0 runs, 9 K. Looks like he'll be ready to pitch for Milwaukee this weekend.

Ryan Theriot could be in the process of becoming a super-utility player. He started today's game in RF, then came in to play SS. He's started three games at SS and twice at 2B before today.

Given the trend toward having a shorter bench in favor of more pitchers, this probably isn't a bad thing. Theriot would be better at it than Macias.

I'm going to the Clippers-Knights game tonight. Anything I should look for?

44magnum: Eric Duncan, Melky Cabrera, Sean Henn please.
   8. The Jerry Royster Experience Posted: April 11, 2006 at 04:39 PM (#1956312)
On the other side, Ryan Sweeney, Jerry Owens, and Josh Fields are the prospects.

Thanks for the heads up, fellas. I just called Cooper Stadium & was disappointed to find out that batting practice is not open to the public. Oh well. I'll report back here/tomorrows Minor Key.

This is (unfortunately) becoming more frequent at the minor league facilities. Most don't open the gates until an hour before scheduled game time.

Myrtle Beach at Winston-Salem: Jake Stevens vs Lucas Harrell

His peripherals don't indicate anything special, but I'm holding out hope that Harrell climbs through the Sox system. He's a character.

Pitchers used by Colorado Springs today: Miguel Asencio, Jaime Cerda, Nate Field. I thought they were affiliated with the Rockies, not the Royals :)

Just got a note that Jason Hammel has been called up by Tampa to start in Mark Hendrickson's place tonight; don't know yet who will be thrown into the breach for the Bulls.

   14. Mike Emeigh Posted: April 11, 2006 at 05:23 PM (#1956389)
It looks like Jason Cromer has been recalled from extended spring to take Hammel's place on the Durham roster, and my guess is that he's tonight's starter for the Bulls.

Are Yankee fans generally happy with Eric Duncan's promotion to triple-A? Can this man get a consolidation year?

Other minor transactions:

Braves recall Tony Pena to replace Chipper Jones. Tony Pena is all glove, no bat. Luis Hernandez comes up from Mississippi to replace Little Tony on the RBraves' roster.

Reds send Alex Sanchez down a notch, from Louisville to Chattanooga, to make room for the optioned Chris Denorfia.

Dustan Mohr recalled by the Red Sox from Pawtucket.

Steve Andrade is back in the Royals' organization, with Omaha; he was claimed off waivers from the Padres.

Steve Andrade is back in the Royals' organization, with Omaha; he was claimed off waivers from the Padres.

Forgive my denseness, but how is this possible? Did the Jays complete some sort of trade with San Diego to renounce their Rule 5 right to get Andrade back, or maybe they just decided to pocket the $25,000?

Not that I'm keen to have Andrade back; the Royals can have him, Toronto has relief prospects of its own to look at. But I'm confused that KC can just claim him and send him down without offering him back?

More trannys:

This Chris Young was sent to Carolina; Kevin Cave went on the DL.

Jaime Trejo, an infielder who was at Rome, and Will Startup, a pitcher who was at Myrtle Beach, were sent to Mississippi by the Braves. Startup replaces Macay McBride, who pitched on rehab the other night for the MBraves, and Trejo replaces Hernandez.

Chris Booker was sent by the Phillies to Clearwater on rehab.

Andrade was claimed by KC from San Diego on March 28. The Royals then DFA'd him on April 1, which meant they had 10 days to make a deal for him. The 10 days just expired, and Andrade was just outrighted to Omaha.

The way this process works, Andrade first has to clear waivers, then be offered back to his original team. Clearly, the Jays didn't take him back - but whether that was because they didn't want him, or whether KC cut a deal, I do not know.

Charlotte has a four-run first off of Sean Henn - five hits and a walk. Melky Cabrera and Kevin Reese get outfield assists throwing out Casey Rogowski trying to score from first on a double and Darren Blakely trying to advance from first to second while a runner scores.

Columbus loads the bases with nobody out against Tim Redding, but Mitch Jones grounds into a double play (run scores) and Eric Duncan strikes out. Charlotte has a 4-1 lead.
   22. Mike Emeigh Posted: April 11, 2006 at 08:20 PM (#1956672)
Jung Bong actually started for Chattanooga tonight against Carolina.

Anabal Sanchez's second outing has been a lot better than his first - 2 ER through 7. Rex Rundgren, who is in his third season in AA, has two hits and is batting .450. As I've mentioned before, Rex is the son of Todd Rundgren.

Albuquerque and Omaha are in a rain delay.

Pawtucket actually scored two whole runs tonight - and that was enough for a 2-0 win over Boof Bonser and Rochester. Both runs scored on a two-run HR by Jeff Bailey. Abe Alvarez and Craig Breslow combined on a two-hitter.

Stockton and San Jose rained out. There has been a *lot* of rain on the Left Coast this spring; I can't remember the last time there were this many early rainouts and rain delays in the Cal League.

Pelfrey won't stay in the FSL for long. 6 IP, 4 hits, 0/7 bb/so. The Daytona Cubs got a run off him after an error by the SS, an infield single that should have been an out, and a triple off Concepcion's glove.
   27. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: April 11, 2006 at 09:08 PM (#1956748)
BTW, the run was unearned.

Palm Beach and Brevard County were suspended by rain in the second.

I suspect that Pelfrey will stay in St. Lucie until the weather warms up for good in the northeast.

Anibal deserved one tonight, but Chris Mobley blew the game in the ninth.
