J.T. Restko was demoted by the Marlins, from Jupiter to Greensboro. Juan Carlos Muniz was activated from Carolina's DL and sent to Jupiter.

Restko won't be kicking LF Jeff Van Houten out of the lineup - he went 4-for-4 with 2 HR today, giving him 7 on the year.

Van Houten is 23, so I'd venture to suggest that he's not much of a prospect.

Mike, have you seen any of Hughes' starts this year? Any Yankees prospects you're impressed or really disappointed with thus far?

Tabata's command of the strike zone has been suboptimal so far, but he's still getting pretty good results for his age. Duncan sounds like he's completely overamatched in AAA which just reinforces my opinion that he should have started back in AA.

Nope. Florida's a bit too far for me to drive, and they haven't been on TV (the FSL isn't exactly well-covered; I didn't even know he was starting yesterday until after he'd left the game).

Trenton makes, if the schedule is correct, only one trip to Bowie (which is the only place I'd be likely to catch him, unless by some miracle he gets to Columbus) this year: May 19-21. If Hughes continues to pitch in rotation, and is called up before then, he'd just miss that series. If he does get to AAA, Columbus comes to Durham for two games late in August.

The K rate is higher than I'd like to see, but the power rate on contact is acceptable, so it's not too bad. Jackson's also doing very well.

He's not hitting for power, but he's also not striking out at an excessive rate; I wonder if he's shortened his swing, or if he's hiding an injury. In any event, I'd probably give him another couple of weeks at AAA before I'd think about a demotion.

JVH isn't much of one (this is his first year in pro ball - he hit well as a collegian, but was in a good hitting environment and scouts don't like his size) - I was just bumping the thread. He should still start somewhere, though (currently bats third, was a first day selection last year, and has yet to not hit well).

Its Danny Christensen's turn in the rotation for High Desert.

I believe Cashman said he'll be up in a week or two. I can't wait, since Trenton is just a busride from NYC for me.

Jackson's really impressed me. I hope he moves quickly, because I doubt Damon will be a competent CF for many more years.

In spring training there was an article on how the Yankees changed his swing/stance in 2005 because they thought it would help him hit for more power. He reverted back to his old one (reminds me somewhat of Ortiz' stance) for the AFL and is sticking with it for now. He scares me quite a bit, there are very few players that had his contact issues in the minors and were able to develop into major league regulars.

Thanks. The Cal League and the FSL are, without question, the two most difficult leagues about which to find information.

Any idea what's going on with Dustin Nippert? He hasn't made a start since 4/14.

Where the heck is levski when I actually want to know something about a DBack prospect?
   11. Mike Emeigh Posted: April 24, 2006 at 08:45 PM (#1986309)
Nippert was bypassed in the rotation in favor of Neal Musser on Friday night. I think he was being held out in case Russ Ortiz (who was hurt last Wednesday) couldn't go on Sunday. He might be going tonight in Tucson; I don't have a line on Tucson's probable.

Former first rounder Corey Smith signed with the Barons (AA/WSX) a few days ago and is off to a nice start - 5/8, 2b, 2 hr, 4 r, 5 rbi as Birmingham's first baseman.

Jason Perry had been sitting out ever since he hit for the cycle on the 16th due to a pulled groin

So the pulled groin was the reason he hit for the cycle??
