Really, really odd situation in the California League:

High Desert leads Inland Empire by 1/2 game in the first half standings. The two teams meet tonight at San Bernardino. Under Cal League rules, the game counts toward Inland Empire's first-half record, and High Desert's second-half record. If the 66ers win tonight, the two teams would be tied for the first-half title, and it's unclear how the league would then proceed to break the tie.

Further clarification (from the San Bernardino Sun):

High Desert has won 7 of 13 meetings from Inland Empire and has a better divisional record than the 66ers. Under the rules as published, the Mavericks would hold a tiebreaker edge even if the 66ers win tonight - but it's not exactly clear when, or whether, those rules were adopted by the league. The old tiebreaker was that the winner of the teams' first meeting in the second half (which would be tomorrow at San Bernardino) would claim the first-half title.

It looks from the Gamecast that Edgar Gonzalez was pulled after one inning in Tucson's day game. Anyone following know if it was injury related?

The Diamondbacks designated P Kevin Jarvis for assignment today, calling up Scott Hairston, which leaves them without a starter for Thursday's game. Edgar is in line for that start.

Ah. That makes sense.

Have all the minor league first halves ended?

As Mike noted, Northwest League action began today. Thomas Berkery started at short for Spokane - he's a rare SS/C (third is probably his best spot, but he's blocked by Marquardt).

The Idaho Falls Chukars appear to have set their roster. But no Jeff Bianchi? Any Royals fans know what's up with him? I had heard he had a back injury but that it wasn't serious.

Also what happened to Zane Carlson? And is Matt Campbell out for the year?

"Also what happened to Zane Carlson?"

Forth Worth Cats...indy league team. The one that Hochevar pitched briefly for.
