Is this the thread for minor league chatter then, too?

Anyways, Philip Hughes, AKA the best pitching prospect still in the minors, pitched 8 innings with 1 HA, 0 R, 2 BB, and 10 K! He took a no-hitter into the 8th as well. This was his last start as a teenager. I'm in love.

Brady Everett has his shoulder reevaluated, and was not placed on the DL. Luckily the Bees stopped the paperwork in time. Instead, they placed C/1B J.P. Lowen on the temporarily inactive list.

Other Royals minor league transactions:

Wichita placed P Devon Lowery (knee) on the DL on 6/22.

Burlington released OF Antonio Sabatini on 6/25

Wichita promoted C Kiel Thibault from Burlington on 6/25

P Daniel Haigwood traded from Philly to Texas for P Fabio Castro (Rule 5 pick)

What the hell is Philly thinking?!?!?!?

He's the former #1 Rule 5 draft pick! Johan Santana was a #2! Think about the possibilites!

All joking aside, Esteban German was a Royals steal for Castro. Good deal by Mr. Baird.

Jered Weaver's latest: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 W, 11 K.

Too bad he's not quite ready for the majors.

I'd rather have Haigwood.

Philip Hughes has now had, IIRC, 3 consecutive starts in which he's only given up 1 hit. Yesterday he only went 5 innings since he threw around 110 pitches the start before. I can't believe he just turned 20 and is dominating AA like this.

I have a question for some of the better prospect guys, though. The Yankees have said they're not going to call him up this year, but Cash also said "if he can't be denied, he can't be denied." So if he keeps dominating like this and does so in AA, would it make sense for the Yankees to call him up to the majors as either the longman or setup guy?

This way they could still be careful and limit his innings while letting him face major league hitters a la the way Liriano and Santana did. It also fills a hole for the Yankees and gives them a better idea of whether Hughes will be ready for a spot in the rotation at the beginning of 2007.

If Hughes keeps dominating AA, it makes sense to send him to Columbus.

I'm glad I'm not a GM, b/c the Hughes thing is the kind of decision I'd be afraid to make. After what, 1 bad start in AA, he's adjusted to the league and dominating it. But he's only 20. Not knowing him personally, it's tough to call, but gosh it's got to be difficult resisting the urge to bring him up and replace Chacon or someone in the bullpen. I'd love to see him.
