Recent Minor Moves: AL East

Baltimore:

Promoted P Chris Waters and OF Sebastian Boucher from Bowie to Norfolk. Waters was picked up from the Braves’ organization prior to the 2007 season and spent almost all of last year at Bowie. He won five of his six starts for the Baysox this year and posted a 1.69 ERA before being bumped up when Lance Cormier was promoted to the Orioles. Boucher replaced Adam Stern, who’s on the DL.

Activated P Pedro Beato at Frederick. Beato had been on the DL. He was roughed up in his return, allowing 9 hits and 6 ER in 4 1/3 IP against Potomac.

Added P Shane Mathews to the Delmarva roster. Mathews was an 8th-rounder a year ago, out of East Carolina.

Boston:

Nothing interesting to report.

Yankees:

Promoted OF Matt Carson from Trenton to Scranton/WIlkes-Barre. Carson, a 2002 5th rounder out of BYU, spent all of 2007 at Trenton, and was off to a good start there in 2008, hitting .277/.331/.545 with 5 HR and 26 RBI in 27 games. He started off 7-13 with a triple in AAA.

Tampa Bay:

Added SS Shawn O’Malley to the Columbus (SAL) roster. O’Malley was a 5th-round pick of the Rays in 2006. He’s really not much of a prospect, but there’s not a lot going on in this organization, either.

Toronto:

P Brett Cecil was promoted from Dunedin to New Hampshire. Cecil, a supplemental first rounder a year ago who closed at Maryland, has been a starter in the minors, and the Jays would like to see him develop into a starter, although the pen is always an options. He’s been on a really tight leash, throwing just 18 innings in six starts this year (4 in the FSL, 2 so far at AA).

Beato wasn't on the DL, he was on the temporary inactive list for family reasons.

Thanks for grabbing that - the note I had said he was on the DL.

Hey Mike, does Carson have the potential to be a useful 4th OFer or is he likely an organizational depth kind of guy? I know he's really old but was wondering if could have a Brady Clark like usefulness towards the end of his 20s. Thanks.

I think the latter. He's not really a center fielder, and I don't see the bat as likely to play much in a ocrner.
