So Wade Miller finally starts throwing. Wasn't he supposed to be ready by May or June? Another wonderful diagnosis for the Cubs. So now what, he ends up pitching in a handful of games in September and then next year he pitches for somebody else? Were the Cubs doing the Astros a favor by signing him? What is the rules on that anyway? If nobody would have signed him who would have had to pay for his rehab treatment, and what would they have had to supply Miller with if their is a rule that says they must?

The Cubs signed him to a one-year deal, so he can go to whomever he wants next year (and keep this year's salary).

The Cubs were trying for a 2-year deal as they did with Dempster and Williamson, but Miller insisted on just one year and the Cubs believed that he would be back earlier anyway (late May was the original plan, I believe). Another misprognosis and this one is actually costing the Cubs money.

Still, perhaps they hope that Miller will resign for 2007 out of some sense of guilt. Who knows.

Why? He was most recently with the Red Sox.

What do you mean "pay for his rehab treatment"? If Miller was unsigned, he'd be paying out of his own pocket, trying to get back into MLB. Sort of like Jose Canseco, only with more of a chance.

Oops on the Astros part. But the point is that Wade Miller injured himself while working for a major league team. Miller can't blow his arm out and the next day the team cuts him and he has to go pay for his own surgery. So the team is on the hook for the surgery/repair and I am wondering if they are also on the hook for the rehab to get back to normal. I believe even in a basic workers comp case the employer is on the hook for rehab as well even if they no longer work at the company.

Either way it is pretty stupid on the Cubs part to sign him even when he wouldn't agree to a 2 year deal.

Wade Miller went out on rehab immediately after the break, but had some additional soreness and was put back on the shelf until now.
