The Florida Marlins, the parent club of the Carolina Mudcats, have reassigned left-handed pitcher Adam Brandenburg to the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Single-A Florida State League, and promoted right-handed hurler Jose Garcia to the Mudcats from Jupiter.

Garcia will make his starting debut on Saturday against Montgomery. Left-hander Manu Olivera will move to the bullpen to create a rotation spot for Garcia.

Apparently the Royals signed Donovan Osborne and put him in Omaha

Too bad about Ankiel.

That'll give me something to write about; it's time for another diary. Tonight is youth campout night, which means that the GA sections and probably both edges of the upper bowl will be filled with kids who have no interest in the game.

NCSU1B, you going to be there?

Apparently the Royals signed Donovan Osborne and put him in Omaha

AG1F got this yesterday, but I don't have Omaha's game notes for tonight yet, so I don't know what other moves they made.

I will be floating around the stadium somewhere. I don't miss too many games. Looks like tonight will be better than the Scount Camp out that finished late and kept the kids from watching the movie. Or fireworks for that matter.

You need to drop by Section 210 and introduce yourself - I promise I won't blow your cover :). I'm easy to find - just look for the guy with the scorebook.

I like having my lil cover here. That way it's no big deal who I am or anything.

Just don't let Steve have too many beers.

Memphis (PCL, AAA): Signed UTIL Derek Wathan as a free agent.

I've also seen this reported as a trade, with the Rangers getting a ptbnl from the Cardinals.

I wonder if there's more of a backstory to the Knights releasing Tim Hummel. They picked him up in the minor-league portion of the Rule V Draft this past off-season and he was hitting .244/.337/.451 through 28 games. He's a bit more valuable than your run-of-the-mill minor league veteran in that he can play practically every infield position.

The only reason I could think of for the release is a roster crunch. Long-time prospect Andy Gonzalez was just activated off the DL and will probably play in Charlotte. Plus, they recently signed utilityman Bobby Smith; along with the quality play of Jorge Velandia, Pedro Lopez, Josh Fields, Angel Gonzalez, and Casey Rogowski, Hummel was no longer needed.

The Sox also released Hideo Nomo and Damian Rolls. They also sent Arnie Munoz from Charlotte to AA Birmingham. Here's a thread on the moves:

Bump - updated.

It's not a transaction yet, but Jeff Niemann is supposed to be reporting to Montgomery this week, and is scheduled to make his first start for the Biscuits next Saturday. Niemann has missed the entire season after having his shoulder scoped in the offseason.

Alfaro requested his release from the Bucs, or they just cut him loose?

The latter. Alfaro was hitting only .198 for Indy, and Taber Lee came up from Altoona and played well when DeCaster went up the first time - so when DeCaster came back down, they released Jason.

Anyone know if theres an obvious reason why Todd Self has completely imploded this year?
