I'm sad to see Kendrick called up, because he was in line to start the Blueclaws' game at Citizens Bank Park on Monday. I figured he'd get the call after that game.

This is the Hamels Shuffle.

Hamels to Philly
Mazone to S/WB
someone (Segovia?) to Reading
Kendrick to Clearwater
someone from extended spring to Lakewood

Rumor is that Charles Haeger's getting sent back down to Charlotte this weekend, with Augustin Montero getting called to Chicago.
   4. Mike Emeigh Posted: May 12, 2006 at 01:01 PM (#2016665)
I thought that Haeger's start might be a one-shot and that McCarthy would wind up in the rotation; given that they stretched him out for four innings in relief of Haeger, that prospect seems likelier.

That's probably the case, with Montero taking McCarthy's spot in the bullpen and Haeger going back to Charlotte's rotation.

I should also add, in a transaction I missed a couple of days ago, that Norfolk activated P Royce Ring from the DL.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Haeger........but I'm rootin' for him

"SS Matt Tuiasosopo has missed three games after suffering two gashes in his left elbow in a kitchen accident. "

Well, we have an early leader for random injury of the year, either this or Kerry Robinsons DL-inducing laughter

From what I've seen of Aball life styles these guys don't even have kitchens. This one Sally league team stayed at a Days Inn all year and others stay at little apartments that have kitchenettes at best. Did he take a can opener to his elbow?

I have no idea; I read that blurb in the Modesto paper.

It's hard to get info about the Cal League. Not as hard as the Florida State League, but still hard.

There was a feature on the Brewers MLB site about a cooking class that lots of low-minors guys took from some big-time chef. I have no idea what kind of setups they have at "home" ...but somebody was apparently operating on the assumption that the players would have some kind of facilities during the season.

More Phillies shuffling. Chris Roberson went to Philly to replace Aaron Rowand. Peter Bergeron moves from Reading to Scranton.

All it takes is a sink, a glass and not paying attention to cut yourself washing dishes... it's amazing, actually, how dangerous that activity can be. I almost cut the tip of my finger off trying to pick up a piece of glass that had somehow managed to wedge itself in the caulking between the counter and the wall.

Either that or he and his roommate were playing "dodge-knife" and Matt lost.

Every now and again I guess right:

Reading (EL, AA): Sent 1B Brian Hansen to Clearwater. Received OF J.J. Johnson and P Zach Segovia from Clearwater.

Baseball America has a little piece on JJ in its daily dish
He clarifies that he is not JJ Johnson

A's sold Matt Watson (Sacramento) to Japan. Watson's put up a .900 OPS in AAA over the past few seasons, but he's 28 and his defense is apparently pretty terrible.

Different Johnson. That James Johnson is the Orioles' pitching prospect. The J.J. Johnson above is the former Cubs' OF farmhand, now with the Phillies' organization.

Geoff Geary's trip to Scranton didn't last long. He's headed back to Philly with Julio Santana DL bound.

OF Dee Brown has been promoted from Wichita to Omaha, but its just temporary as Omaha is short of OF and Brown was hitting just .125 at AA.

Also Wichita has activated P John Gragg.

Durham has to make another roster move to accomodate Nick Green, but I haven't yet heard what it is.

Make sure to check out the Bottom of the 7th on the Memphis/Tucson game of Sunday night for Umpire Incompetence du jour. We'll have to check the morning papers, but best as I can tell a ball up the left field line called fair by the home plate ump who was running up the line, leading to an inside the park homer, was reversed by the second base umpire who was not in as nearly a good position to see, but nonetheless called it foul.

Much anger ensued.

is this the same dee brown? or is there another one?

I know someone was asking about this earlier in the season, but it seems Jamal Strong is on the Richmond roster
Don't know if that has been mentiond here before

There is another one, but this is the original one.

Make sure to check out the Bottom of the 7th on the Memphis/Tucson game of Sunday night for Umpire Incompetence du jour.

It's around 2:15 into the Memphis broadcast, 2:14 into the Tucson broadcast; I listened to both of them this morning. The home-plate umpire (who had the angle) called it fair, and John Gall (the LF), who had attempted a sliding catch, immediately objected. The Memphis broadcasters thought the ball was foul (mentioning that it "kicked up dust", which indicates that it hit on the track next to the LF fence), but agreed with the Tucson broadcasters that the base umpire was in no position to overrule the call. They only had two umpires working the game rather than the usual crew of three.

The Memphis broadcasters also thought that the ball might have bounced up over the fence, and could have been a book-rule double.

Yay for Rob Stratton signing! I'd still love to see him get a shot in the bigs. MLB needs another Rob Deer type hitter.
