Got the details on Guillermo Quiroz. He's been on personal leave to spend time with his wife and new daughter. He was activated for a day last week for procedural reasons.

Even though he was buried, you have to wonder about the wisdom of demoting Thompson in favor of, presumably, Crosby?

Is Crosby out of options, cause if he's not - this move is inexcusable! Thompson is younger and a better player (not potentially, but right now).

Also, Mike, the Clips sent T.J. Beam to the big club after the Yankees DFA'ed Aaron Small.

Small said if he is not claimed he will report to Columbus.

True, but given that neither is going to be used as a starter - the Yankees are going with an outfield of Melky/Damon/Bernie at the moment - would you rather have the guy who is in your future spending most of his time sitting on the bench, or the guy who isn't?

Got that on the last update cycle on the weekend.

More Yankee junk, Mike (I really should be working but....)

Columbus gets Shelley Duncan and Francisco Butto from Trenton
Trenton gets Jesus Colome from Staten Island and Brett Gardener from Tampa.

Actually, I got it on that last cycle, but for some reason didn't post it. Oh well...

Personally, I'd prefer a Cabrera-Damon-Thompson outfield, with Bernie as 4th OF/PH/elder statesman... but alas, Joe never returns my calls.

Benrie has been hot lately.

SP Jeff Fulchino to the Marlins to finish off that Albuquerque transaction. Not sure why he was added to the 40-man and given a shot over Chris Resop.

Slew of moves, as teams promote/demote for the second half.

Rob Stratton, the Rob Deer of AAA is available again!

Phillies' fast powerless guy Tim Moss demoted from Reading to Clearwater. Not sure why, he's been hitting much better in June than the rest of the season.
   14. Azteca Posted: June 20, 2006 at 11:31 AM (#2069632)
Coupla things:

1. When do the Yanks begin to lose patience with Melky's .244/.349/.313 line? The OBP, I guess, may save his job.

2. Anyone catch Micah Owings outing for Tucson this weekend? I noticed today that he tops BA's hot sheet, and 6 no-hit innings in a AAA debut will do that for you. What stood out, though was the 5bb, 2k split. Over his year, now, in professional ball, he's never had control issues, I don't think.

I saw that possibility in his (one bad) outing against Carolina earlier this year. His ball moves a lot, and his mechanics (while not likely to be a potential injury concern) are just awkward enough so that if he's the slightest bit out of sync, he can see his pitches jump out of the zone. The pitching coaches really need to watch him closely.

I believe BA reported that Akron placed Kevin Kouzmanoff on the DL this past weekend with a bad hammy. Too bad he seems rather injury prone.

The Reds are promoting Homer Bailey from High-A Sarasota to AA Chattanooga. He just finished striking out all three batters he faced in the FSL All-Star Game.

Hey Mike,
Did you get a chance to review the file/article I sent you? Just wondering if you got it at least.
   19. Der Komminsk-sar Posted: June 20, 2006 at 04:12 PM (#2069840)
Joe Inglett called up to the Tribe. While he doesn't have great power or draws lots of walks, this was one of the best players in the minors that was 'eligible' for a 40-man roster but not on one going into the season. He hits for average, has a little above average speed, plays a bunch of positions and lacks dramatic weaknesses. I doubt there are five teams in baseball that couldn't use this guy on their bench.
   20. Der Komminsk-sar Posted: June 20, 2006 at 04:13 PM (#2069841)
And now I see it listed in the header. :)

I got it, but I was hardly home at all last week and weekend. June's a busy month for me, with two birthdays (stepdaughter and wife) and there's a lot going on. I will get to it tomorrow.

I don't know how Swindle was doing with the Flyers, but he should absolutely dominate the low minors if healthy. He was great with Lowell for the R-Sox, but was cut anyway. Has noooo velocity.

Along with Edward Mujica, who is absolutely nasty. Guthrie back to Buffalo, Jason Johnson DFA'd.

Mike -

Did you get a chance to see Olson pitch while he was in the Carolina League? The scouting reports I've seen have been along the lines of average fastball, great curve, decent change - just wondering if that would match your observations...
   26. Der Komminsk-sar Posted: June 20, 2006 at 05:21 PM (#2069903)
Along with Edward Mujica...
Yeah, but he's got to bring down that ERA...

Royals have dealt J.P. Howell to Tampa Bay for Joey Gathright.

Wow... should be interesting to see Willingham back at Five County, of course not sure how long his rehab assignment will be for.

Two games, then he will be reassessed. It's unlikely that he'll still be around when the Mudcats return home Friday.

FWIW, I won't be, either. I'm on a plane to Seattle for SABR on Saturday. More about that later.

Royals have dealt J.P. Howell to Tampa Bay for Joey Gathright.

That's why Gathright hasn't played the last couple of days. We were wondering.

Mike,

The Cardinals apparently have moved Rich Scalamandre and Rico Washington to Memphis and demoted Travis Hanson, Shaun Boyd and Carmen Cali from Memphis to Double-A Springfield.

They don't have to. Rehabs dont count against the minor league roster limits.

This doesn't really fit in this thread, but I know that several of the people who follow the deep minors on this site are Royals fans and this concerns a guy who was in their farm system, so...

From Ballpark Watch (a really good site, by the way): Pensacola Pelicans (independent; American Association) pitcher Rusty Begnaud was hospitalized in serious condition last night after diving headfirst into a swimming pool and suffered a fracture of his vertebrae. Going into surgery Begnaud was paralyzed from the chest down....

*****

Also, Kouzmanoff is expected to be out for 10-14 days with the hammy problem (per BA and Rotoworld, among others).
   36. ess eff Posted: June 22, 2006 at 06:20 PM (#2072688)
Anthony Reyes to the Cardinals. Chris Duncan back down to Memphis.
   37. Der Komminsk-sar Posted: June 22, 2006 at 10:51 PM (#2072942)
Not really of much interest, but it might be the first intra-ss move of the year: teen Aussie 1B Josh Dean from GCL Twins to Elizabethton.
   38. ess eff Posted: June 23, 2006 at 03:22 AM (#2073084)
Blake Hawksworth apparently has been bumped from high A Palm Beach to Double-A Springfield, although I've seen no official transaction
   39. Mike Emeigh Posted: June 23, 2006 at 11:34 AM (#2073252)
Correcting myself:

Eric Crozier has signed with Lancaster (Atl, Ind). The Chattanooga game data was showing Crozier, who was released by the Reds a month ago, as being on the bench for the Lookouts, but a quick check of the Atlantic League trannys (which I do every now and again, looking for sales to major league teams) showed him with the Barnstormers.
