The Braves apparently made some move with Anthony Lerew, but I don't as yet know what it is. Lerew was originally listed as the starter for tonight's game with Charlotte, but he's been replaced by Franklin Nunez.

Angels sign P Sean O'Sullivan. O'Sullivan was their third-rounder in 2005, who went to juco to keep his options open after turning down a 500K signing bonus from the Angels a year ago.

The Reds have DL'd RHR Matt Belisle and plucked Justin Germano from his scheduled start tonight at AAA Louisville.

I never noticed Brian Sanches before, but he has 23 K's, 4 walks, 2.49 ERA and .169 batting-average-against in 21.2 innings at Moosic. I think he's ready for a major-league cup of coffee.

Interesting note is that 33-year-old rookie catcher Chris Coste continues to be on the Phillies major league roster, while vaguely prospecty 26-year-old catcher Carlos Ruiz was sent back down to AAA.

The Reds have traded RHR Kyle Edens, on High-A Sarasota's roster, to the LA Angels in the Esteban Yan deal.

bump, updated.

According to the A's radio broadcast last night, Harden is expected to go two innings for the River Cats tonight, and Loaiza will throw about 65 pitches. If all goes well, Harden will be re-activated and start against Minnesota this weekend.

Pitching's been way up and hitting way down the first two months at the park. I have a hard time figuring out if the pitching's that good or if there's something screwy going on with the ballpark. Sanches deserves the call-up though. I think Yoel Hernandez is kicking himself for hitting the DL at this point.

As far as Coste/Ruiz goes, Coste has the added ability of being able to play third and first base respectably. His versatility makes him an asset.

This doesn't exactly fit here, but I don't know where else to put it:

Roger Clemens, whose signing with the Astros was announced today, will make three minor league starts. He will play with son Koby at Lexington on June 6, then move to Corpus Christi on Jume 11 and Round Rock on June 16. If all goes well, he'll rejoin Houston for a June 22 start against Minnesota.

Actually, he may not be "playing" with Koby, who is still on the DL.

Sanches's callup may be temporary. The Phillies will be calling up Eude Brito to start on Saturday and will need to make a roster move.

Cole Hamels will be making a rehab start for the Phils' low-A club in Lakewood tomorrow. My guess is that he'll probably need one more rehab outing after that.

Mets have signed C Mike DiFelice and OF Jacob Cruz to minor league deals. No word yet on where they'll wind up, but my bet is that Cruz will be at Norfolk pretty quickly.

"Richmond (IL, AAA): Sent P Tyler Yates to Braves. Received P Lance Cormier from Braves. DL’d P Anthony Lerew (back strain). OF Kelly Johnson has been recalled from a rehab assignment by the Braves for further evaluation, and will remain on the DL. "

Ooh, interesting day.
I pray a back strain is the only injury Lerew is suffering.

Tyler Yates in a Braves uni will be interesting to see (altho considering Richmond wears the same uni as ATL ive seen him in one already) and a pretty good indication of how desperate the Braves are to find any hot hand in the pen.

I'm wondering myself what the deal is with Kelly Johnson. He looked healthy enough to me.

So where is he now? with the Braves big league team or in extended spring ?
He was Dh-ing a lot with Richmond. Did you see him play, because I read that he was still having major problems throwing

"He was Dh-ing a lot with Richmond. Did you see him play, because I read that he was still having major problems throwing"

Im pretty sure he was in the field when I saw him but I really cant remember what his D looked like at all.

His bat, as mike said, looked just fine.

Now, if he IS having throwing problems and youre going to play him in the field LF in Durham is the place to do it (its like a less extreme Green Monster situation...so a real short LF throw)
   18. Der Komminsk-sar Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:47 PM (#2046565)
He arguably should have been charged with two errors in left the game I saw, but both were fielding, not throwing. He looked fine at the plate - I was distracted by his misplays and didn't notice his arm.
   19. Mike Emeigh Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:05 PM (#2046629)
He DH'd twice and played LF once (no really difficult chances) when I saw him. His bat, as others have noticed, was fine, but if he's still not throwing well he obviously isn't ready to play for an NL team.

"Portland (PCL, AAA): Sent P Brian Sikorski to Padres. "

Thatd be the guy who set the Japanese fastball record....44/7 K/BB in 28 IP in AAA Portland so far
   21. Doc Scott Posted: June 01, 2006 at 03:06 PM (#2047283)
The Reds have just sent LHR Ben Kozlowski from AA Chattanooga to the LA Dodgers as the PTBNL for OF Cody Ross. They are still due a PTBNL or cash from Florida in exchange for Ross. Kozlowski started the season at Louisville, but gave up something like 20 hits in under ten innings and was demoted, where he's done much better (1.17 ERA). He was converted to the bullpen in spring training this year.

If Cincinnati gets an arm with any upside at all in exchange for Kozlowski (who's now 25 and a shadow of his former Braves phenomhood), it's a good deal in the end.

Omaha (PCL, AAA): Received P Joe Nelson from Royals.

The Royals board people freaked out on this deal because they didn't notice that Nelson allowed 1 earned run in just 9 1/3 innings. They felt Nelson was the best guy in the pen.

How long has Muzzy Jackson been waiting to make his first move as GM? Brilliant work Muzzy!

Wichita (TEX, AA) activated P Devon Lowery from the DL.

I see you've already fixed the daily game listing, but AAA Louisville abruptly released LHS Darrell May. Either Steve Kelly or Phil Dumatrait will get the bump from AA.

The Twins sent Scott Baker to Rochester for Shawn Wooten.
   26. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: June 01, 2006 at 05:58 PM (#2047486)
Why has Baker been demoted?

Talking of Kozlowski, what happened to Bubba Nelson and Jung Bong? I know Bong was injured last year, but he pitched in the WBBC..

Bong was released about a month ago. He went back home, I believe. Bubba's now pitching for Mobile (SD organization).

lost for the year I am guessing.

thanks for the info Mike.

The Twins sent Scott Baker to Rochester for Shawn Wooten.

Fox Sports says Tiffee was called up. Other sources reporting only that Baker was optioned; no word on callup.

As to why Baker was optioned: 1-3, 8.42 ERA in May, 41 hits and 9 HR in 25 2/3 IP will do that when your name isn't Brad Radke.
