38 Pitches: Schilling: What a series

One last thought. I guarantee someone will make a big deal out of this and it’s not meant to be. It’s something that I would guess only affected me but that’s why I mention it. I was stunned yesterday as I walked to the pen to warm up, that the Angels took no BP outside. I am walking to the pen and they were doing the ‘on your own’ routine that teams will often do in Spring Training for oddly timed games or during the regular season when you get an early day game after a late night. Now I would bet they didn’t think twice about it, they were ready for the game and all that, but as I am walking to the pen I couldn’t help but think that as high as I was adrenaline wise, with the series on the line, and my nerves on edge, there was no way they could be anywhere near as ready for this game as I was when it started. Sounds stupid I guess, but I know it got me fired up and excited about being able to grab a hold of this game and win it. They were obviously ready to go as Jared looked very good early on and they swung the bats well.

Do what I always do...just blame Mickey Hatcher and his patented Hit-Counter Clicker.

I've read about a half dozen different blog entries by Schilling and every one's been informative. This was no exception.

I wish a pitcher on my team would write a blog like this ("The Wang Diary" or something).

But IRT "shutting down the running game", how exactly did Boston do this? Was it a function of the games not being all that close, or of the Angels not having runners on? Because it seems to me that you can shut down all facets of an offense by not allowing baserunners.

Junior Feinstien is doing a book about Glavine and Moose this year, he interviewed them about every start, after every game.

He is a decent writer, and he really lucked out about the subject matter if he really did get that kind of access. Glavine won 300 this year, and he had one of the most infamous starts in Mets history.

Moose struggled, pulled it together for a couple months, and then imploded in a spectacular fashion. If his soul searching interviews after the loss in Detroit were any indication, this is going to be a very compelling book.

I wonder how that will compare with Roger Angell's book about David Cone. I found that that had...far too little stuff about the actual season that was being supposedly chronicled.

"Pettitte Sophisticate"?

Honestly, I'd be interested in Hughes' takes. "Hughes jass?"

Does Schilling mention Vlad giving him the "man, I'm gettin' reeeal tired of this" look (which he's been using a lot lately) after being walked and Schilling's subsequent "F off"?

Curt had nothin', but one thing he does have is the testicular fortitude to pound the strike zone. That and the Angel hitter's willingness to swing at junk combined for the good outing.
