A-Rod leaves game with strained quad muscle

WTFF!!

As if the Yankees didn’t have enough problems right now, they can now add Alex Rodriguez to that list.

A-Rod left Sunday’s game against the Orioles in the sixth inning, heading to the clubhouse with a strained right quadriceps muscle. A team spokesman said Rodriguez was day-to-day.

Rodriguez reached base on a fielder’s choice in the inning, though he appeared to slow down during his final few steps before first base. One pitch into Hideki Matsui’s at-bat, Joe Girardi and assistant trainer Steve Donahue ran out to first base to check on Rodriguez.

After a brief conversation, A-Rod began walking back to the bench, ending his day. Morgan Ensberg entered the game as a pinch-runner, taking over at third base in the bottom of the inning.

Derek Jeter missed six games last week with the same injury.

It was widely reported that Girardi got the players in the best condition and ran the most physical camp compared to any of the Torre era. Yeah....right!

C'mon, Cabrera. All the cool kids are doing it.

Once again, it's clear who the leader is on the Yankees, and who are the followers.

#1, it's also possible that they overdid it a bit under their new gung holier than thou manager.

Girardi was also running Braves spring training drills, too. Either that, or Jeter's leadership encompasses all teams:

Quads are this year's hamstrings.

Is Ensberg the likely fill-in?

Betemit, perhaps. They might platoon the two. I'd prefer to see Ensberg, who has looked distinctly useful.

Frank Thomas can probably play third. I mean, they put Jeter at short.

Has to have more range there then he did as a studio announcer.

Betemit is on the 15 DL with conjunctivitis.

Huh, I must have missed that. Pink-eye might explain all those ugly strikeouts at the beginning of the year.

Sign Thomas to play first, move Giambi back to third.

I bet Eric Chavez is available.

Weird. Guy thought that there's been a lot of incredible advances in topical creams over the last few years.

Sign Thomas to play first, move Giambi back to third [string].
