ajc: Moore: Braves must keep Teixeira (RR)

What do you think...putouts grow on peachtrees?

Since joining the Braves on last year’s trade deadline from the Texas Rangers, Teixeira has shown often why he has two Gold Gloves and counting. There was the sixth inning Saturday, for instance, when he converted a nasty hop into an easy out to increase his major-league lead in putouts by a bunch. He also is a switch-hitting terror at the plate. He has hit safely in nine of his past 11 games, and after a slow start earlier this season, he has accumulated 12 homers and 38 RBIs since late May.

No wonder Cox said emphatically before the game, “We’re buyers, not sellers. We’re trying anything to improve. We’re not seeking to move anybody. I don’t know where [people] got all of that stuff from. There’s a time to [start trading players], I suppose, but we’re in this thing.”

But is he worth... one hundred... BILLION... dollars?

He's been a disappoint to my fantasy and HR Derby teams. I bought the hype.

I hope that Bobby's comment was just for public consumption. If he really believes that the Braves are still in it, he is delusional, and I say that as a Braves' fan.

The Braves really need to deal Teixiera. What happens if he ends up going to Baltimore, which has a protected top-15 pick? Wren would look pretty bad in that scenario, knowing the Braves have been out of it for almost a month now.

Teixiera to the Angels makes too much sense and Casey Kotchman- a young, cost-controlled LH 1st baseman- would be a great fit for Atlanta.

I've read a lot of baseball in the last 30 years, and this is the first time I recall anyone citing first base putouts as evidence of anything.

The Braves are losing 6-1 to the Braves in the bottom of the 3rd inning. They are not "in this thing."

If they have more games scheduled against the Braves, they might be...

Yeah, but at least the Braves are looking pretty good.

Okay, okay, so I made a stupid error. The Braves are now losing 8-2 to the Nationals. In the bottom of the FOURTH inning.

EDIT: Make that 12-2. Jesus. Willie Harris homered AGAIN against the Braves. Willie Harris!

That just doesn't buy as much nowadays.

Steve Garvey says hi and that this could be evidence of all sorts of things.

The writers who follow the Braves for the AJC are exactly different than New York writers. They take the most optimistic view possible.

Well, when you're dealing with a player that can record a "bunch" of putouts on a single play, that's a pretty rare talent.

Um, yeah. That Tex has played more games at firstbase than anyone else on a low strikeout team. Both Pujols and Todd Helton have made more putouts per 9 innings, but Tex has played more innings.

I before E, except after C, and in Teixeira, a name I have the damnedest time spelling.

I'll pay Tex one hundred billion dollars as long as he's not picky on the country of origin...
