AL Central race: September 10, 2008

MLB.com: White Sox get best of Blue Jays

The White Sox actually pounded out five hits against Halladay (18-10) and managed to put together a pair of efficient innings during a 6-5 victory.

The win kept the White Sox (81-64) atop the American League Central and ended the South Siders’ six-game losing streak to the Blue Jays (78-67) this season. Toronto had a 10-game winning streak come to an end, while Halladay’s five-game run also was halted.

MLB.com: Slowey dominates Royals in win

Twins starter Kevin Slowey limited the Royals to just one run over seven innings as Minnesota defeated the Royals, 7-1, at the Metrodome on Wednesday night.

It's strange, but right now, this is the closest race in baseball. Angels, Rays and Red Sox are in.

In the NL, Cubs, LA, NY are in along with Mil. Astros, Phils, Cards and DBacks are just hanging on.

The Dodgers aren't "in." They have no shot at the WC and must beat AZ. Sure, they are ahead, but it isn't concluded by any means.

If the Twins miss the palyoffs by one game in the central, I will burn AJ Pierzynski in Effigy.

That race sure feels over, though.

The way the National League has been playing lately, you'd think that nobody in that league even wants to make the playoffs.

Effigy, of course, is a small town near Eagan.

WRT Dodgers, it may not be over but BP says they are 93% to make it to the playoffs. If it makes you feel better, I will say that they are almost "in".
