AL Central race: September 18, 2008

MLB.com: White Sox drop series in New York

By the time the seventh inning of Thursday’s 9-2 drubbing administered by the Yankees had come around, the White Sox lineup looked more like a Spring Training road game in Peoria, Ariz., than the team’s final contest played in the history of Yankee Stadium.

MLB.com: Twins rally in ninth to rob Rays of win

Despite their pitching staff allowing five home runs in a game for the second time this roadtrip, the Twins managed to score five runs in the ninth inning to capture an 11-8 victory over the Rays at Tropicana Field.

I'm gonna be in Eau Claire, WI for a few days next week. I'm debating whether to drive over to the Dome Tuesday night to catch the Twins/Sox. That could be fun.

Tie game, runners on first and second, nobody out, top of the ninth:

- Trever Miller (L) relieved Dan Wheeler (R)
- Adam "#######" Everett hit for Jason Kubel
- Adam "#######" Everett doubled to deep left, J. Mauer scored, J. Morneau to third

"You see, you're a left-hander and so is the pitcher. If I send up a right-handed batter, it's called "playing the percentages". It's what smart managers do to win ball games!"

But then you have to explain what "percentages" means to a millionaire egomaniac jock with the i.q. of your Labrador.

I envy you, sir. I wish I could be in town for that series.

"Um, sir, I'm afraid all the players on your chart have either retired or... passed on. In fact, your right fielder has been dead for 130 years."

"Damnation!!! Well then, find me some other players! Living players! Scout all the Leagues! The American League! The National League! The Negro Leagues! Find me the best of the best!"

I didn't like it either, but he sent Everett up there to bunt, originally. He wasn't looking for the right-handed bat, but the better bunter.

What a strange, strange season in the AL Central.

It's not every day I go to Eau Claire, WI, and it's even rarer for me to get envied for being there.

Ah, thanks. I didn't watch the game and was just going off the play-by-play. That makes a lot of sense.

Everett did the old butcher boy play and nearly homered down the line.

Fernando Perez somehow avoided an error on Mauer's 9th inning "double" despite flat out dropping a fairly easy catch for any reasonable CF.
