AL East race: September 4, 2008

MLB.com: Kazmir protects Rays’ turf vs. Yanks

The 24-year-old Kazmir stifled the Yankees—holding them to one-hit over six innings—to buoy Tampa Bay to a 7-5 victory over New York at Tropicana Field.

The win extends Tampa Bay’s margin atop the American League East to 3 1/2 games over second-place Boston, which was idle on Thursday.

It's sort of interesting how Kazmir has spent the last two months pitching like Daisuke has pitched this year. Lots of pitches, lots of walks, but allowing 0-2 runs in 5 or 6 innings generally. Tonight: 6 innings, 1 hit, 5 walks, 0 runs on 98 pitches.

God help us if they face off in the postseason. I fear Frank Castillo-levels of boredom.
